Thought he was very good today in that combining aspect. Quicker release of the ball, looked for one-two’s, accurate, popped up in different areas.
Have to disagree. He was excellent. Missed a couple finishes he usually makes. Made up for that by putting it on a plate for Manes second.
Thought his runs, aggression, and control cause palace all kinds of problems. In some ways the opposite of some of his performances this year where he scored with one clinical touch but didn’t seem to contribute outside that, in this game he found spaces, took on defenders and ran with the ball to create a lot of chances for himself and the team.
Helped by some fabulous service by Tiago and others of course.
First of all I love Mo and it’s seems churlish but with the sitters he misses he should be scoring between 30-40 goals a season.
Salah is goalscorer that thrives not on high conversion rate but on getting as many chances as possible. I do not have statistics but I am sure he is not the highest with conversion rates (happy to be proven wrong of course). But herein why he is great because he keeps getting into those positions where he has those chances. He is now very known to defenders in the league but none has yet to be able to keep him totally quiet. When we signed him, we thought he might be very good, we probably did not expect him to be this great.
No; that would be Alisson.
Mo comes in with 17%; interestingly, his shooting stats are very similar to Harry Kane’s.
Agree with this his touch most of the season has been poor but then popped up with a goal, however today his link-up play with Trent & Thiago down the right was sublime. But what would have impressed me would have been if he had squared it so Sadio could have had a hat trick.
I have said several times that Salah’s fitness record is very underrated. In last four years he was injured for 67 days, missing just THREE games.
Yeah, his evolution went more on the physical side. He’s a little monster physically, it must be said. I think Mourinho also said he thinks that is the biggest difference with him, the way he was before and the way he is since he started producing at a new high level.
Not to argue your point but there was nothing wrong with him at Chelsea Mourinho will say whatever to try and make it look like it wasn’t his fault. Mourinho is just shit at taking great prospects and giving them that final polish to turn them into world class talents. He needs to be provided with the finished article and even then he’s a volatile personality who is guaranteed to fall out with at least a few good players at every club and freeze them out needlessly.
In a recent episode of the Carra podcast Micah Richards was talking about his time with him and Fiorentina. He said he’s been surprised by the number of goals he’s scored, but not by his impact as he said that from his experience training with him and experience the run around he gave everyone there, he was incredibly confident that Salah was going succeed here.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently and I’ve decided that I love Mo and would be very happy if he wanted to finish his career with us and see how high he can go on our all-time goalscoring list.
…and chip in a few more assists for Mane.
Same for me, and I hope that he has the same mindset. Everything coming out from him so far indicates that he’s 100% happy with us, so fingers crossed!
I reckon if we hadn’t of got CL he might of looked to move on… Now though I expect him to sign a new contract this summer instead.
Yes he misses chances but the key is he always does score and he gets himself into positions to have enough chances to get the goal… Along with Trent and Thiago he carried us the last 3 months.
David James says that the team performs better without Salah because he’s hampering fluidity.
David James is paid as a pundit and was paid as a footballer when modelling was his true calling.
I think Salah will contribute another 120-150 goals in next five years. Even in his twilight years (32-34) he will be a great option off the bench. Age isn’t an issue (just ask Milner), what matters is your attitude (Origi) and your fitness (Matip).
I wonder how much he relies on his pace though. Take that away, and he loses one of his key attributes in order to get into good positions from a wide position. On the other hand, his technique in tight spaces when on the ball is so good that he could finish his career as a specialist center forward though. And yeah, attitude and fitness are top notch, and that’s unlikely to change.
I think he relies more on technic and footwork to get into scoring positions in the opposition third. There are still those 60-70 yards dash to score blinders and those will definitely become rarer with years. Think his biggest handicap in the twilight years will be the inability to score from corners, something that has helped Giroud a lot lately.
