Mohamed SALAH: 2021/22

Exactly. Its really starting to fuck me off.
We could make history and he is busy interviewing about his contract with frustrating regularity.
He needs to zip it amd focus on what he can do for the team.
Its obviously not going to get sorted before the end of the season, so why bother talking about it.

Because he wants to put the club over a barrel ?

Maybe the Ballon dā€™Or snub got to him (understandably)? He might feel as though he wonā€™t get the respect and plaudits he deserves unless he moves to the continent? Struggling to think of anything else if it isnā€™t money!

Perhaps so. But if he achieves it all at Liverpool this season there surely cannot be another candidate for the award?
Its really all conjecture at the moment, people guessing what exactly is going on.

Reading further into the 442 article suggests he is happy to be at Liverpool.
But thats not headline sensationalist stuff. Player happy at club vs Player wants move.

Most likely. Shit house tactics though and could at least wait until season ends if he and his agent want to go down that track.

This is brilliant, the tacticā€™s obviously working since it keeps the situation front and centre. Prime brinksmanship and you lot are falling for this head over heelsā€¦

It rarely about the actual money though. Its about recognition and how you think you compare. Unfortunately, Manchester United, and their ability to overpay for underperforming premadonnas, exists. How many on here have asked for a raise? Keep your hand up if you have asked for a raise because you were struggling to pay the bills? Its usually because Johnny two cubicles over who plays solitaire all day is getting paid the same as you for a twentieth of the output.

I mean the good news is that only a few clubs can actually afford what Salah is supposedly demanding. One is PSG and the other is United and one of those is a shambles. OK. Both.

Iā€™ve always struggled to pay the bills.

Have you seen the price of decent champagne these days?

Those points contradict eachother. I ask and get a pay rise every year, itā€™s 100% about the money, why else would you ask for a pay (money) rise? My reasoning is the areas of responsibility Iā€™ve picked up and owned over the last 12 months and what I will do over the next 12 months. So recognition is given in a monetary way.

I donā€™t however walk in and say please double my earnings. Theyā€™d tell me to fuck off.

Yeah but you donā€™t have his bargaining power, do you?

In isolation, and in instances like these that makes sense.
The difference between ā‚¬500 a week and ā‚¬1000 a week is immense. Massive life changing stuff.
But at a level where people are being paid ā‚¬100,000 a week or more the notion of money and the value of money becomes a bit secondary.
The thing about short careers and looking after the family is a moot point.
ā‚¬200,000 a week for a few seasons is a pension plan none of us could ever achieve. So to be honest whilst money is a factor at some stage, I doubt they ever really think too much about it.
You only need money when you donā€™t have it.

I do actually! Cheers.

Mate you deserve the 100% increase thenā€¦

Mo has no world cup next year. Itā€™ll be the first time a long while that he can have some actual rest during the season. When others come back from the WC and have their inevitable dips, Mo is gonna be on form.

If he wants to see out his contract, let him. I see a 50 goal season.

How do they contradict?

Iā€™ll say I am not money driven at all. If I can provide for my family I am OK. But I also donā€™t appreciate being undervalued by my employer. Salahā€™s wage increase demand is IMO about demonstrating that he is one of the best in the world. Not because he needs an extra 100-150k a week. I donā€™t agree that Salah being offered 300k or whatever the figure is should be considered undervalued, and I absolutely dont think the club should, or will, budge on that. But I believe thatā€™s Salahā€™s angle.

Iā€™m chilled about the whole thing. I hope he signs, as he is a reliable goalscorer and a world class player. If he doesnā€™t sign we will get another one in.

At that point Mo will either be sold in the summer, or will wind his deal down and leave on a free. The situation is a simple one.

I donā€™t like Mo talking about this and giving interviews. Not that he would care one jot, but he is getting smaller in my eyes the more he speaks.

The main two variables in the contract are money and length of contract. It is precisely about that. Ok, you can PR it, and claim it is about what the money might represent e.g. respect, but you are kidding yourself at that point. It is about money and possibly length of contract. No more, no less.

Sign please. And if you donā€™t, we will be fine either way.

One other thought:
I have some sympathy with the viewpoint that once you are a multi millionaire and secure for life, what does it matter if you are getting say, Ā£375k or Ā£400k per week? It might not matter too much personally, but playing devils advocate, letā€™s imagine you are committed to giving to charity, and you want to help lift poor people in your homeland, then the extra money would be very useful.

But you are asking for more money, my view is it doesnā€™t matter the reasons itā€™s still asking for money.

Semantics I guess, neither I think its widely off, I just seem the 3 items - Money, recognition and respect as pretty much the same thing and valued by the money offered. I canā€™t think of how else you give Mo more recognition and respect as a club.

And so we are clear, I 100% do not thing badly of Salah for asking for money, he is worth it (if I ignore that footballers get paid too much), I fully agree he is worth earning what the best players earn as he is their level. I just think practically of that vā€™s what I know of our wage structure and what weā€™ve achieved with that.
