Ultimately everything about a contract negotiation comes down to money but I think this is right. It’s about asking for the going rate for a player of his status and being recognised as such. Nothing wrong in that. It wasn’t that long ago that there was serious discussion on here and other LFC forums about Mbappe or Haaland coming to Liverpool. Did people expect them to be OK with the wage structure? No chance they come to Liverpool unless we pay the going rate. Same in any industry.
So I’ve no problem with Mo for asking for as much as he can get. If the club don’t want to pay it and a compromise can’t be reached then that’s equally fine. I know he has to do interviews and the contract will always come up but I’d like it now if he just refused to answer or said it’s between me and the club or something like that. Getting bored with hearing about it now and it’s causing unnecessary angst amongst the fanbase. As far as I can see he’s giving his all on the pitch and the team’s doing well. That’s all that really matters.
I’ve always said he’ll go for free or we will sell him in summer.
I’ve no problem in him wanting £500k a week as that’s what Haaland will be getting when he joins City and he has zero prem league goals or any trophies.
But we will never pay that. So he either needs to lower demands or go. Up to him.
at some point, the oil money that’s destroying the balance of power in European soccer is going to have to be restricted. There will have to be a salary cap implemented, as the current system of using a percentage of income is irrelevant if companies like City Group or PIF continue to falsely inflate their sponsorship revenues to bypass FFP regulations.
Players like Mo who are performing for clubs like Liverpool have to see guys like Haaland, Mbappe, etc as mercenaries. Literally, playing for clubs which have blood on their hands.
I’m hoping this will be the first time a player mentions the fans knowing what i want, and then actually signing. This comment never works out well for the fans. Anyone know of a time it has?
Maybe he wants Klopp to stay and that’s what he is stalling on? That’s what the fans want. Maybe he wants to know our ambitions for after Jurgen leaves? Not many Managers out there like him. In fact there isn’t any at all.
At this stage of the season, and the preceding bs interviews/advisor bs over the past months, feels like a do what I want or else I will keep on giving this stupid fucking distracting interviews that does absolutely nothing for the team and only benefits yourself. Basically the definition of selfish.
Other than money,i don’t think the fans have a fucking clue what he’s talking about.
If he’s the happiest he’s ever been playing football at LFC and loves the team he’s playing with, plus being on £220k a week plus bonuses then being offered a new contract over supposedly £300k plus bonuses, what’s the fucking issue Mo???
Ok the top stars are on over £500k+ a week but these are guys playing for plastic clubs with cheating owners where money is no issue or clubs that have massively crippled themselves with debt and can’t carry on with those spending levels.
Surely he can see LFC is run in the right manner, with a wage structure befitting a club at the top level of football, where what we are paying is what a real financially sensible non cheating club should be offering,if thats his issue then i guess he’s gone in the summer for a fee or for free next year unfortunately.
I just wish players would just say nothing or just come out and say whats what and stop talking BS when it comes to contracts.
What if Salah extends? I don’t think it would be beyond another three seasons, till June 2025. How many trophies will he win with us in those three seasons? Although we are considered one of the best teams in the world, we aren’t a favorite even to win the League Cup. That’s the reality as long as the corrupt and inept FA and PL are in place.
If he moves to Germany, Italy, or Spain, that club will not just become the favorite to win the domestic double but will also become the front-runner to win the CL. Even if his contract with the new club is similar to that with us, we will earn more by winning more. I think he is insistent on more guaranteed payments from us because options for incentivized bonuses are rather slim (or bleak).
I dont think the bonuses are tilted towards winning trophies, but in perfomance metrics. We’ve also see the club prepared to pay a win bonus for losing in a final.
Option for incentivized bonuses are bleak? What are you on about friend… we’re on course for a treble if not a quadruple. We’re one of the two best teams in the world.
You’re also assuming he stays at current level well into his thirties. That’s just what he’s claiming by pointing to Ronaldo who’s actually a burden.
Most would rate Mo as being the best in the world. His salary at the moment isn’t even in the top 10 of the Prem, never mind including the rest of the big leagues.
We don’t (and understandably can’t) pay like the oil clubs.
My view is just enjoy Mo while we can. Whatever happens, happens. I don’t get those with hate in their hearts.
I don’t rate Mo as best in the world. I think he’s world class for us but I’m not sure he would replicate his genius elsewhere and I think deep down he knows it.
Yeah, agree, not the best in the world. It’s difficult to judge every now and again, he certainly played like one of the world’s best players in different periods here, the last one in the first half of this season. But we hear that all the time, while there are other terrific performers out there. Most would probably agree on Benzema lately I think.
