Mohamed SALAH: 2021/22

We want to continue supporting him as a Liverpool player. I don’t think there is anyone here that wants him to leave, unless his demands harm the club. The interviews aren’t helping anyone but him.

Sorry, Mo. I guess you gotta go then.

Maybe he’s thinking we didnt do enough to support his candidacy.

Maybe we didnt get him the right birthday cake?

I don’t fully buy this argument. Mo may not be completely unreasonable in judging his income against the likes of Mbappe, but this is an industry in which there is not a flat rate for talent. And football is not even particularly unusual in that. In all these various industries differences in the work environment and the totality of the situation the companies offer dictate where they are on the pay scale relative to their competitors, and to a large degree employees make the choices when determining which company they want to go an work for. I could add 25% to my salary tomorrow if I left my current company to go and work for one of the industry leaders. But to do that I would trade in my current situation for one with more bureaucracy, inability to innovate and do meaningful work, a much narrower scope for my actual responsibilities and so less opportunities for professional growth. I evaluated which is more important to me and made my choice. I could discuss with my boss differences in salary relative to my team mates, but if I asked for a salary on a par with what the established companies pay the only response would be to tell me I could leave.

When it comes to us, I am not making the claim that we are so great that players need to give us a discount to play here. Rather, any player needs to take into account what they would be giving up to go and play at one of the few clubs in the world who are able to pay more. Go to Real and get mercilessly booed by your own fans. go to PSG and win a title in front of a largely empty stadium. Go to Bayern and go and player in a pointless league where only 6 of your games matter in any season (and those are the KO ones in the CL). If any player is willing to make that trade, then all power to them, but at that point they have by definition stopped being the player willing to “push our train” and its probably in everyone’s interests for the player to move on.

Apparently Salah insists that I draw his portrait to be used on Skysports match day telecast as part of the deal.

I know. I am a fan.

Please try to make both of his legs the same length

That would add another 30% to the already skyrocket costs that the club is not willing to pay

Well at least we know know that if he doesn’t sign, it’s because you didn’t give him a second set of abs.

Ya there is some disagreement over creative direction because I insisted on this hair cut to give a booming presence.

But back seriously, some clarification from the reporter.

Could be length of contract, as FSG are known to not be fond of long contracts for players after they hit 30. Could be related to Klopp’s plans and who will replace him if/when he leaves, could be related to any planned rebuild of the squad.

Length of contract is also money related unless it’s pay as you play.

Obviously
But that maybe isn’t the point.
There may be agreement on pay per week but one side unwilling to commit to an extended duration?
In the clarification piece the journalist says Mo told him of about 8 players who are playing at top level well into their thirties…

Maybe it really is about duration.
