Mohamed SALAH: 2024/25

The links to Saudi were just terribly lazy journalism. Mo is muslim so he must definitely want to play in Saudi.

Bascombe is reporting that if all clauses and bonuses are met, Salah will be earning 480,000 pounds per week, which is insane.

I am happy that he stays on, but I am very apprehensive about him getting anything more than a token raise, let alone a substantial one. It will have an adverse effect on all current and future contract negotiations as well.

I sure as hell hope that Hughes knows what he’s doing.

That must mean that everyone who’s a cunt must want to play in Manchester.

Oh wait…

I think that might be a little too simplistic.

Saudi would have definitely wanted him, as that would have been a bigger coupe than when they signed Ronaldo. What wasn’t factored in, was how much Mo rated huge earning opportunities plus living in a Muslim country over competing in the top league and against the top players in Champions League each year. I imagine he probably gave any saudi offers serious consideration, but altimately still has the hunger to prove himself against the best players in Europe.

I think that is what I’ve previously read he is earning now (or a little bit more). The likelyhood is that if he is hitting all his bonuses the team should be doing very well.

As far as I know, his current contract him pays him 350,000 per week.

He had serious offers from fourteen top clubs in Europe and further offers in Saudi. He chose to stay at Liverpool…as @WeeJoe suggests, that is loyalty. Plus the desire and ability to win stuff.

PS
The fourteen club interest is made up, like a lot of opinions here…!

This is more rage baiting journalistic nonse. Unless he states how the contract is done with add ons it means nothing. His base could be 200k with rest in add ons.

There were a few pushing the story that way.

Didnt his agent do a talk at havard a year or so ago saying with wages and sponsorship money he is pulling in over a million a week, cant see why that would change , if not increase imo…still a disgusting amount for a footballer to earn imo.

Hughes prior to the CL final next yearā€¦ā€œDoes anyone have the number for that caterer who poisoned spurs costing them a place in the CL? I want to use them for the team meal the night before the game because we just cannot afford Mo’s bonus if we win.ā€

It works out as £50 million over the next two years of his contract. If he was to leave, we would have to find another player who could well cost that even before they start playing, and then we would have to pay them something substantial as well.

In isolation, it probably does make sense, but it does set a precedent for everyone else.

Money talks!

Add in to that, the fact that any replacement will not prode even close to the same numbers that Salah has consistently produced for 8 seasons, the fans expectation would likely have them written off in the first couple of games if they don’t hit the ground straight away

Anyone who does that isn’t really a fan.

It’s not so much the Ā£50 million payout on its own that concerns me as it is the fact that it’s going to a 32-year-old. This season’s numbers would be hard to replicate even if Salah were in his mid-20s. If time really catches up with him, we’ll be stuck with a very expensive contract for little return.

His numbers this season are extraordinary mind.

You’d struggle to find anyone who could replicate that at some point in their entire career also doesn’t have to be performing to get some of this.

The way he looks after himself he’s probably 1-2 years behind others at a similar age.

I simply don’t think the club would have signed him if there are signs that he can’t at least deliver an average Mo season.

Remember the guys in charge now.

We have been stuck with the likes of Thiago gathering dust in the past. It’s always a risk.

There are players who have kept on being useful well into their 30s. Lewandowski or Ibrahimović, for example. If the pay for Salah is dependent on milestones and achievements it covers us to a point. The 2 year duration also gives us some leeway, as the medical team can probably predict that far (injuries aside) and it gives us a limitation if something does go wrong. Compare that with Haaland getting a ten year deal. OK, he is much younger, but one bad injury and City are fucked for a decade.

Are there any reasonable options for Mo changing his position? Wingers need to be able to beat the defender every now and then just to keep an element of doubt in the opposition’s mind, and that’s becoming a rarity with Mo. He’s compensated well, with some great passing and crossing, but I wonder if he could do that elsewhere. He seems not to like playing as a central striker, but maybe at AM? Barnes, notably, added a couple of years to his career by moving into midfield.
Any thoughts?

I dont think so, not without drastically changing the way we play.

You look at the way our 10s play and Dom is as likely to be putting in a lung busting run to get back to track an opposition break as he is to find the ball on the edge of their box. At our best, our 9 has been a livewire appearing all over the front line trying to find pockets of space in which to receive the ball. Mo has always been a player who lies in wait and picks his spots for how to hurt the defense, and the emphasis on lying in wait has increased as the years have passed. What I suspect is we’ll look to an athletic up and down RB, like Bradley, whose runs off the ball will occupy the FBs attention.
