Mohamed SALAH: 2024/25

Brilliant

VVD was second as well.

19 players received votes for Footballer of the Year from Football Writers’ Association members. Mo Salah deservedly won with 90% of votes cast by @theofficialfwa 900+ members, ā€œbiggest winning margin this centuryā€. Top 4: 1 Salah #LFC; 2 Van Dijk LFC; 3 Isak #NUFC; 4 Rice #AFC.

It’s honestly pretty astonishing that anyone else got a vote.

Not every voter is a neutral.

This is Bruno Fernandes erasure

Yeah there was a prick campaigning for Penandes.

Except for Van Dijk.

Salah for L’Equipe:

ā€œI scored a lot (44 goals in my first season), and then Sadio told himself it was his turn to score more too. Yes, there was tension with Sadio. But look, we remained professional until the end, and I don’t think it affected the team. It’s natural for someone to want more, and I understand that - he’s a competitor. Off the pitch, we weren’t very close, but we always respected each other.ā€

ā€œAs for the comments about me being selfish? I don’t care. People have the right to think what they want - that’s their business. But I invite everyone to notice that the player who provided the most assists to Mane was me (18 assists). People can look at the facts, but clearly, it’s easier to throw out statements like that - they make big headlines.ā€

Interesting that he gave L’Equipe an interview.

What, to explain to PSG fans and the French why he decided to stay here?

It feels like there ought to be more context to that? Sounds like he was asked a rather provocative question from the tone of his reply.

Great interview.

Interesting that he made it clear he would only commit to a two year deal and the club wanted a longer deal. Also he sees himself playing to 39/40.

Also the end  (i wont spoil it)

Fascinating because I think all the reporting around it was the other way around?

I thought Salah was just joking about the club wanting more.

This is something Gary Neville does well. His expert analysis is not so good. But he is good at interview’s actually (though I prefer Lineker in that role too).

Well he’s interviewing a fellow pro so the rapport is easier. Wonder how he’d go interviewing non footballers. Lineker is a level above.

Salah rarely gives interviews, but when he does, he’s pretty chatty and open. Doesn’t always say the obvious answers or what peoole want to hear, even part of the Liverpool public. Maybe the club prefers when he’s silent! I liked a few of those answers, especially at the start with what should be the ambition/standard at this football club. Hopefully more players of that same mentality. And a cheeky little dig at Dom at the end.

Dom is the new Lovren.

That chance on Monday to make it 1-3 and possibly kill the game…

Please Mo, right foot.
