Yeah, my read is Chelsea are casting around trying to create room in their plan to go up in value and/or move a payment forward. For FFP, the payment structure doesn’t matter, the fee is amortized.

Of course. But maybe its reasonable for the player to give them another day to see if they can so he can make a decision for himself on where he wants to go rather than being treated as an asset with no agency. He almost surely indicated an openness to signing for us prior to us submitting our bid, but that is not the same thing as committing to getting the deal within hours of a late night deal being struck between the clubs while he was (hopefully) fast asleep.

I went to sleep last night thinking I’d wake up to news that Caicedo had completed his medical and signed. Not this. Not this.
It makes sense now that Romano was saying that the club was trying to get everything wrapped up so quickly because they didn’t want any surprises.

As soon as they agreed that Adams deal and simultaneously said they couldn’t afford the Caicedo one I thought Brighton would just turn around and say walk away from Adams and you’ll have 20m extra then.
