Objectively, choosing Chelsea over Liverpool is insane. The club is out of Europe, has an absolutely scattershot approach to transfers, and is worse than we are.
I have to believe that his agents are upset that that Liverpool are not offering the same kinds of agent fees to make this happen for them and are trying to steer him back to Chelsea.

i think its 50/50… chelsea doing a lot of huffing and puffing but no bid…they either dont have the money or cant make the structure work and LFC know this

Plus there going offer him an 8 year contract, he would be far better coming here as we will probably open to it at a cheaper rate.

so since brighton have asked us to keep our bid in, what do they do for us in return?
I can’t believe that he hadn’t shown some interest coming here before the bid it how all transfers work. Player says yeah then bid.

The way I understand it is you can still give an 8 year contract but can only spread the amortization over 5 years

It’s not a maximum contract length, but a max of the number of years you can spread out the cost of the purchase on your books. Chelsea are still offering 6 year deals and more, but can only spread the cost over 5 years.

Did you mean in terms of fiddling finances because thats 5 years but a player can sign a long a deal as they want.
