Something doesn’t make sense - no safety/emergency shut-off switch or mechanism to open from inside?

Just go to the fuse board and shut everything down - pretty fucking simple if you ask me

This is an odd article. The financial aspect is highlighted but to me it came across more as a piece that aims to fan social discontent. Basically if people who earn 60k or more are not having children, the implication being, why are the poor, and obviously all the illegals, having them.

Something to (hopefully) bring a smile to people’s faces on this most depressing of days:

In a bid to dodge a US lawsuit, Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Sprungli has scuppered its own claims about the excellence of its products — a cornerstone of its marketing strategy.

Lindt has unsuccessfully tried to end a class action lawsuit in the United States, launched in February 2023 following an article by a US consumer association questioning the presence of heavy metals in dark chocolate bars from several manufacturers, including two bars produced by Lindt.

“In its defence strategy, the company has dismantled its own promises of quality,” claimed the Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag, raking over a September US court decision.

That’s all from their US factories. Not from Europe.

I’ve been saying for years that fireworks should be banned. The pollution they cause is ridiculous, and all because simpletons are impressed by flashing lights and loud explosions. It might have been awe-inspiring two thousand years ago, maybe, but now?

Fucking idiots.

Can’t wait for the right-wing press to start calling the panda a snowflake.

I’m on board… Can’t see the sense in stuff like this either

Phil Foden’s mum blasted by neighbours over ‘deplorable antics’ at £3.5m Cheshire mansion

Manchester City star Phil Foden’s mum has been blasted by locals after a two-hour fireworks display in a quiet Cheshire village that left pets and children in distress

Phil Foden’s mum has been blasted by neighbours after a distressing two-hour fireworks party in the back garden of her Cheshire mansion.

Residents in the up-market village of Prestbury were far from impressed with Claire Rowlands who kept local children awake and left pets in distress with her loud celebrations. The 45-year-old was gifted the £3.5 million property by her son –Manchester City star Foden – who lives close by and gave no prior warning to residents.

The event began at 6pm last Wednesday and didn’t finish until 8.30pm with some comparing the display to one you would see at Disneyland or on Sydney Harbour Bridge. As a result, locals wrote an ‘open letter deploring the antics’ of the family.

“It was very loud and went on for a good couple of hours,” another added. "I know a lot of neighbours were very annoyed because it wasn’t your normal garden fireworks, it was display-standard stuff.

“It must have been deafening for those living close by. A few of the neighbours have complained because it was just too much for a residential area.”

The most curious thing is that the company has Russian links. When I first saw the headline and read the start of the article, I was literally musing about whether it could have been a Russian op, despite there being seemingly no reason for it to be, but then…

What a despicable world we live in.

The world is lovely.

It’s people who ruin it.

Fixed it for you. I for one refuse to be drawn into the same group than the Trumps, Putins or Netanyahous of this world, nor their despicable paymasters.

You may not be as bad as them, but we all have a detrimental effect on the planet and its ecosystems.

Cynnie’s theory of relativity then

I don’t agree with this. I’m member of the WWF, and a few years ago, they established quite clearly which lifestyle is sustainable, and which is not. They sent a test to their members (maybe it can still be found on their website, now that I come to think of it), with a list of questions allowing you to see where you stand in regards to a sustainable consumption of goods, travels etc. The result of that test was that as a person or rather as a family, we were fine. In short we were consuming ‘less than one planet’. But taking Switzerland as a whole, the average was a consumption of 2,5 planets :see_no_evil:, thus totally unsustainable.

Just to say, I’m living a comfortable life and miss not much of the good things on offer. But I’m not traveling around the world for short holiday or business trips, I’m not driving a monster car over 10ks of miles a year, I try to avoid the plane when I can, and generally, try to live in a balanced way. That makes a hell of a difference.

Of course, if you want to have an entirely natural planet again, without any human presence or only a tiny one, then it’s another thing altogether. We will have to be wiped out, which could occur indeed quite soon, if people like Trump, Putin or Netanyahou are further allowed by their paymasters to run amok.

Edit: found it.
