Post Match: Arseholes vs Liverpool. Kangaroo Cup. 0-2

Iā€™ve been as guilty as anyone of pointing out itā€™s the fourth most important thing, Ā£100k prize money, etc.

But bollocks to that. At the end of the day it is two teams, going at it, on that pitch. And THAT is what matters. We did very well. Arsenal are a good side, growing, getting back towards top four status, so a tricky customer. And we bossed it. Without our AFCON boys too.

Jota was amazing. And as others pointed out, you could see the plan we had to deal with Martinelli. (I liked how Jurgen gave him a bit of toffee. Sign here lad!) I loved seeing Gordon playā€¦ if only he buried that chance when Jota cut it back. But it was important he played. When Carvalho evaluates his next move, stuff like that might really matter.

Kelleher is an excellent goalie. Iā€™m getting ahead of myself, but Iā€™m a bit sad about him, as Allison has years left at the top, and I fully expect Kelleher to have moved on to pastures new to play, and Pitaluga will be the successor. But we canā€™t borrow tomorrows troubles for today!

Fabinho was crisp in the tackle, Bobby played with joy, Konate got stuck in when he came on and had a lovely header that came back off the post. I could go on about all of them.

Just feels good to be in a final, at Wembley. Well done the reds.

But heā€™ll still be annoying nevertheless? :slightly_smiling_face:

That
Or
Jurgen has sensed the knobheadness in martinelli. He is inflating his ego to pogba levels leaving arteta to deal with that everyday. Super evil Jurgen :+1: :+1:

unfortunately I didnā€™t get to see the game ā€˜liveā€™, but absolutely thrilled with the result.
Anfield south, here we come
hope we are back in the groove of scoring 3++ goals in every game

Couldnā€™t be more pleased with how this went. A bit wobbly at times especially in the first half, but solid enough to get the job done.

Jota was unplayable, scored two goals and should have had an assist as well. TAA had his issues dealing with Martinelli, but what a fucking pass that was for Jotaā€™s second. Jones did really really well. When he manages to put everything together, heā€™ll be a beast. But the most pleasing performance for me was Robertsonā€™s. That was vintage Robbo. Rock solid throughout 90 minutes. All in all, an accomplished showing from everyone involved.

Final at Wembley booked, finish the job and win the 9th.

In all the fully-deserved Diogoal hype, we shouldnā€™t forget heā€™s our second highest scorer in this yearā€™s cup run. The day out at Wembley is as much Takiā€™s doing from the earlier rounds. (Not including the penalty shootout miss of Takiā€™s and Diogoā€™s successful attempt)

Agreed with everything, even Jones playing well. I do think heā€™s lacking in a certain game instinct and movement, if I may call it that and the reason I say that is for two reasons, in the context of last nightā€™s game, that I saw in the first half.

First instance, heā€™s stood on the outside of Robertson on the left who the cuts inside taking all of the Arse players with him. He now has space to make a run in behind to receive the ball back from Robertson and drive into the box without an Arse player being able to track. Instead he stand still and takes himself out of the game completely as Robertson has no way to turn around and get it back to him nor does he have any other pass on so itā€™s a dead end because of a lack of movement.

Second instance, also in the first half, the Arse are high up the pitch, suicidally high, with Jota onside and nobody near him. Jones gets the ball, the slide through to Jota or even a dink over is on, Jota sees all this unfolding and is on his bike and the ball is held up and passed backward, chance gone.

Thatā€™s two occasions that could have led to goal scoring opportunities, especially the second instance. He reminds very of of Lallana in his style of play; very easy on the eye, good technique but not incisive enough often enough to really stamp his authority. Heā€™s been with the first team a while now and he needs to start upping his movement, how quickly he moves the ball on, getting his head up more and take less touches. He has all the tools and he has time. I have high hopes for him.

Hendo directs some obviously harsh words at Curt presumably for similar reasons as you point out above. Or nearly as likely Hendo was in a really foul mood with everything and everyone last night. He was weirdly wayward in his own decision-making last night in the passages of play when we needed to keep the ball and calm things.

That was comprehensive, after the first few minutes of them blowing themselves out Liverpool took control.
I thought Jota was exceptional with Fabinho, Trent, Robbo and Jones in top form.

Only concern at the moment for me is Hendo.
Its hardly fair to be critical over last night but I thought he was poor in the pass and looked maybe preoccupied?
Also, wasnā€™t in the in match thread, but was Matip carrying a knock?

Bar the first 10 minutes where we looked like weā€™d not checked out the pitch or ball we were playing with it wasnā€™t really a contest. If we can start games off with some intensity and control we will run City very close.

As others have said no poor performance, Jota clearly just amazing, what a player he is turning into itā€™s like we put the DNA of Salah, Mane and Bobby into a mixer and got the best of all 3.

Van Dijk back to his best, so nice to see utter dominance of our own box from corners and crosses.

On to Wembley!

Totally agree, without his bambi impersonation gifting us possession, we wouldnā€™t have witnessed that absolute peach of a second goal.

Agree with the gaffer 100%

Yes and no for me. Got caught a bit flat footed on a couple of occasions. Fabinho stopping a shot on goal in one such instance. But there was a moment where he looked to be caught on the wrong side. 3 steps later heā€™d caught up and was all good again.

Konate coming one seemed to make a big difference. Everything went very solid when he came on.

Always thought that about him , but apart from a good ten minutes at the start , we didnā€™t see that much from him afterwards.

Agree with everything youā€™re saying there. I remember the first instance but must have missed the second due to a dodgy stream.

What Iā€™m not so sure about is whether he has it in him to make the step up. That ā€˜killer instinctā€™ is something you either have or you donā€™t (look at Jota). Far too often , when in great positions , he seems to freeze. If Klopp can help him overcome that then he could become a very good player indeed.

Yes a couple of occasions but generally he seemed a lot better than Iā€™d seen him, I guess Iā€™m comparing him back to when he literally just dominated the game and seemed 7 foot tall and bar a few little mistakes last night he was back to beast mode again.

A lot of praise for Kelleher on this posting and rightly so. Itā€™s the first time in many years that we have two really top keepers in our squad. Todayā€™s football ball is all about playing out from the back and Kelleher looks quite comfortable with the ball at his feet.
