We don’t have 2nd string we have a squad and it has been the squad that has got us where we are. To continue in our vein of form rotation needs to happen and this has been our heaviest spell with games twice weekly. Our lack of injuries so far has been down to being able to rest players and this still needs to happen even though every game is like a final
Missed the game but was delighted to see the result. Sounds like Sadio Mane was a well deserved MOTM.
Three points and on we go. It sounds like we are running out of steam a bit, so to still get the win is enormously impressive. There’s a very good reason why the quadruple has never been done. So many games, so little time to prepare, and the physical strain takes a toll. You have to overcome great teams to win the biggest prizes, and even in league games middling teams like a Villa have their own reasons to test themselves against the best by really going for it and giving their all.
Man City are big favorites, but you never say never. Ideally Wolves and West Ham both force a draw, and it is back in our hands again after the cup final.
Not only that, but in those last few minutes/seconds, Klopp was stopping the medics from going on the field, as it would mean Naby would’ve had to go off the pitch for 20 or 30 secs. He was shouting for Naby to play through it.
So how he comes to the view of “Curiously, given his famously forthright views on teams adopting cynical tactics in an attempt to win games, Jürgen Klopp had very little to say about any of this afterwards” just sounds like he’s projecting.
I was disappointed with Gerard’s comments after the game. He might be an LFC legend but he was as big a prick as Lampard last night. I notice while criticising the performance of Moss, he didn’t mention the fact that Villa’s goal should’ve been ruled out for offside or that a few of his players behaved like shithouses, Konsa being the main offender.
Just caught up with this after last night. We looked tired last night and I think Klopp was right to rest the players that he did. It’s a pity that Fabinho hadn’t been one of them but hindsight is a marvellous thing.
MotM for Matip and Mane. Matip has been having his best season for us and Mane looks to be enjoying floating around the front line.
I’m wondering if that turns out to be Jon Moss’s last game? I was surprised to see that he is slightly younger than me because he is certainly as fat and unfit.
I’m not really sure, I thought Moss got most decisions right. The Villa fans were reacting to every Liverpool tackle, demanding a free kick or a yellow card. Maybe Gerrard thought Moss was too lenient.
Problem is you don’t get to spend 70 minutes doing that and then moan when the other team do it.
Noticed on a game at the weekend that a team celebrated a goal in stoppage time, made two changes and then started berating the ref for an additional 2 minutes time (should have been 3).
In ‘Manager speech’ it’s usually something like, " Yeah, we may have had a bit of luck with our goal. I couldn’t see from where I was. But it’s up to the officials to give the decisision. We’ve certainly had similar go against us" etc.
Moss has long been known as a pretty terrible referee largely because of his rather large gut making it difficult for him to keep up with play. He’s often so far out of position that he’s suspected of guessing many of his decisions.
I expect Gerrard saying that is not just a reaction to yesterday’s game, but a reaction to the man’s entire career of refereeing from the centre circle.
