Post match: Brentford v Liverpool (EPL 25/10/25 8pm)

The thing is we will never know how much contact there was on Gakpo. If there was contact then he’s ‘entitled to go down’ as the pundits like to say.The difference is it was waived away immediately and yet the VAR felt compelled to get involved and give a penalty to Brentford for basically fuck all. They didn’t even appeal for it, it was just given.

The trouble with this is that I’ve seen plenty of pundits and opinions saying it should have been a pen. It’s hardly as if I’m a lone wolf on this. Saying that was a pen isn’t quite the outrageous bias it being painted as. The commentary team on TNT could not conclude whether there was contact or not, with opinions split.

It is not conclusive enough to throw around words like ‘cheated’ or ‘embarrassing’, nor is it clear enough to disparage people who think it was to this degree.

I’ll say again, if the ref on the field gives that, there is absolutely no way it gets overturned. It’s too close to call, and you say from the replay that it was definitely a dive.

And if it was as outrageous a dive as is being suggested, Gakpo gets a yellow card.

It’s almost as if people think we shouldn’t have got the penalty because we were playing shit. Or if you think it was a pen, then you are somehow trying to sugarcoat the performance.

We are obviously playing shite, but fucking hell, we could really do with getting a decision every now and then. Like the penalty we should have had against Man Utd

And @jaffod is 100% correct. There is absolutely no fucking way on Earth we get the penalty that Brentford got.

It is still happening except our most dangerous forwards are out wide and the crosses are from the channels lol…

Mo has lost some of his mojo, and most probably needs a bit of a rest.
Conceding early doors last Saturday obviously hurts, but I was still confident that we would turn it around. But, not competing for the second balls, being easily brushed off the ball and lacking in confidence began to wane on my feeling as the game wore on. I hope Arne can quickly turn this tide against us and start winning games constantly like last season.

BTW, not liking the kit really, not even a pinch of red on that kit!

I don’t often disagree with you, but that’s a bit unfair. It’s not embarrassing to claim a penalty for the Gakpo shout on Saturday. As @jaffod states above, we would never get it with Kavanagh on VAR. I agree that Gakpo went down easily, but that doesn’t mean there was no contact. I think it was at least worthy of sending the ref to the screen.
And I agree with @Mascot …we would never get the Brentford pen.

There is serious lack of consistency. How come this doesn’t qualify as simulation when he’s clearly over reacting and falling down here. Either both are easily going down and shouldn’t be given or both should be given. And I am not even getting into whether it’s on the line or not.

This is my biggest concern and this is same referee in the same game. Forget the level of inconsistency across games. It’s insane.

I abstained from criticising the appointment of officials but I admit we were ok in patches but I concur with Neil Atkinson that refs no1 and two and the VAR were crap and did their best to enhance the Brentford tactics by giving some dodgy free kicks and penalty and we were denied a stonewall penalty for the challenge on Gakpo. You could see the expression on the new recruits after every bad decision which added to their lack of motivation, contrast that with the officiating in the CL match against Frankfurt where we only mentioned him by saying can we take him with us for the Saturday game. Slot attempts at being too honest and not telling his players to surround the ref after the dubious penalty and the non penalty at their end.

The biggest frustration with that penalty for me is that it’s such a soft foul I don’t think that the ref gives a pen for it if it’s in the box. He gives it as a foul because he thinks it’s outside the box.

VAR then decide to get themselves involved in a situation in which neither the refs or the players are particular asking them to, which is their want, but I wish they do the same for us sometimes.

You go on social media and you still see people insisting that the Refs favour Liverpool. It’s baffling.

This is even more conclusive than the other one.

He collapses himself anticipating contact.

Obvious dive.

Are you looking at the same clip? It looks like the Brentford player got the ball, hence not a penalty. Gakpo goes down because he trips over the leg after the tackle.

I am.

You can tell by the way Gakpo bends his legs and throws his head back he’s swan dived to the ground.

He didn’t do either until he was tripped. It’s not a penalty, but there’s no indication that he initiated the contact.

If you can see contact you must have xray vision to see through Cody’s legs.

I think that is the worst angle, even from the front you can’t be certain there is contact, I did see one view on the initial replays that seemed to show no contact, but I haven’t seen it since,

I didnt see the game, but that is the most ridiculous foul I’ve seen given in a while. Thats just stupid.

I’m not excusing our poor performances but crap like that isnt helping.

I keep saying Slot has what it takes and will turn it round etc - But you’re actually right! It’s just sentiment on my part because he won the league and he’s a likeable guy. After reading your post I suddenly thought, actually - what has he done to show that he can do it?
The only thing I will say is that he is very proactive with subs (something I was often critical of Klopp for) not that he always gets it right, but isn’t afraid to change early and be brave. He did bench Salah for one game too?

Does it though?

The video quality is terrible and the clip is being played out with all these weird sudden pauses that you can’t make out anything clear cut.

These are the best angles and video quality you’ll find, the discussion section is also far more reasonable than you’ll find on here.
