Post match: Brentford v Liverpool (EPL 25/10/25 8pm)

This side is a laughing stock and that’s what hurts the most.

Any team can lose games. You can play well and lose games. You can be unlucky and lose games. You can lose games while still looking like a competent football team. You can lose games because your players quite simply aren’t as good as the opposition.
None of these things apply to this team right now. It’s a fucking shambles in every department. No direction, no discernible style of play, no tactics.
We came out for the 2nd half a goal down and at no time did I think we were going to score a fucking goal. There is no belief on or off the pitch, that much was evident last week when the ref signalled 7 minutes which was met with complete silence.

well said!! what is the fuckin plan?

The thing is the ‘bad run of form’ started around the end of February.

I don’t think he will be sacked…but we are struggling…and we can’t get out of the rut…it hurts to see them in this mess…but heaven knows the answer…

Why?

Playing a slow methodical style with Ibou at the back and even Virg causes us issues Brentford pressed us today and we just ended up coughing up long hopeful balls, as I wouldn’t call many passes.

I know Brighton concede a few but they do beat a press far better by trusting a pass into the midfielders feet, who then has the option to turn, play a return pass or an angled ball out to an open full back.

We ponderously pass it about between our goalie, CB’s and FB’s and get trapped if we are playing this style we have to be brave and play the ball into our CM’s feet or bypass them on the floor to our forwards or Wirtz, but the we need movement and lots of it.

I loved the idea of what Jonese said about wanting to dictate play and we did that for a whlie even though one down, then suddenly stopped playing.

Watching us the only players with lots of movement or our full backs, CM’s and Wirtz the others seem static, when Ekitike moves he is hard to mark and is a thorn but by the end we just hit long balls towards his head and Collins bullied him.

I feel that Ibou is a big problem on the ball for us as he lacks the composure in possession and variety, thats why I wanted Guehi.

If we are playing this current style Ibou isn’t the solution, especially as his defensive side is also off.

I think we should try Joe, who is a better passer in field to our midfielders but we have to understand that at times it will be cut out or intercepted.

What I want from us is bravery on the ball and that doesn’t mean you have to go forward, just cut out this playing the ball on the periphery, come inside to go outside or the otherway round and most of all movement.

I say all this but the biggest thing we need is some fight, but if we play the right way then we don’t have fight as much.

Well, we’ll have to beat Villa because City and Haaland will rinse us the week after.

That’s hyperbole, framed by a bad week when we lost the League Cup Final and got beat by the eventual winners of the Champions League.

Our actual record from the start of February to winning the league against Spurs was Won 12, Lost 4 (one of which was the second string getting beaten by Plymouth) Drew 2

I don’t even want to think about it

i come back to my question from last wkend’s loss. when do hughes and edwards start looking at other options?

i honestly think that if there was some semblence of a plan, fans whould be like, “Oh, we see what he is trying to do there, lets give it time, it will work eventually”. right now we have no idea what dude is trying to do

I sometimes see a plan but it feels several players don’t fit the plan, then we panic, it all goes to ratshit and then no plan.

So was there a plan in 1st place?

Well for a start I didn’t say the start of February, I said the end so you’re including 3 wins out of that timeframe.
And I’m not talking about results. I’m well aware we still won plenty of matches. ‘Form’ to me is how we are playing, and we have been in poor form since the end of February bar the odd half here and there. In fact I’d say the ‘form’ has been fucking poor more often than not.
This team right now is not a competent football team. It’s arguably one of the most disorganised teams in the league.

Since winning the Spurs game its 7 defeats in 17 and thats not counting the pointless shield.

Sorry MH.

I think an attack on Matty is an attack on us all.

Wondered how long it would take for the “Slot out” calls to start, pretty well on cue.
Not there yet but I am really interested in just how much say he has actually got in signings and tactics.
He is, as we are seeing the guy who carries the can for rubbish,as such he should have a significant say, hence my concern.
First and foremost we expect Liverpool to perform as we expect, and just now we have more passengers than I would like.

I refuse to believe that Slot didn’t have a say in the signings which were made this summer. Perhaps Hughes had certain targets in mind, but this isn’t the old days of the “transfer committee’s signings and Rodgers’s signings.” Hughes and Slot certainly consulted about what kinds of players were needed for Slot’s planned evolution of the squad going forward. And bar Guehi, I don’t think we were seriously linked with anyone this summer that we didn’t end up signing.

This isn’t a situation where a cook had no say in the ingredients. He helped choose the ingredients and he’s turning out a shit meal.

You think he might have no say in our tactics? Fucking hell, if that’s true we’re in more trouble than I thought.
