Couldn’t watch, happy with the result, sounded we played ok, happy to see the goal scorers and assists. Sad about the injuries.
Onwards.
No Yarmolyuk in the poll?
Hopefully someone will come up with gifs of the goals. Sorry it took so long. I couldn’t set up the poll on the opening post.
Isak is becoming an away day specialist. Quite happy for him to bag scrappy winners for the rest of the season.
Not a great game but it was a huge 3 points which turned on it’s head after the red, so a big thanks to Yarmoluyk.
Was disappointing to see how we reacted after scoring the 2nd, we just stopped playing.
Apparently Dom went down with the same injury and is suspected to be out for some time. I think Iraola (or the physios, at least) got this one wrong.
According to this, Wirtz created 9 chances?
Was it really that many? I thought he was fairly creative today, but I didn’t notice that many.

Isak just doesn’t touch the enough balls…
Nothing scrappy about Isaaks finish !
Great result. There were periods when you wanted to pull your hair out with what we’re doing, but at this point of time, I’ll take 3 points however they may come.
I loved Ngumoha on the right, it was by far his best performance there and he was instrumental in turning things around. Also, I think that it’s time for either Tsimikas or Gomez to start, fitness permitting. We can’t go on with both full backs being non-entities in the attacking third.
I don’t think that you blame Iraola on this as he’s acting on what he’s being advised. Both Szoboszlai’s injury and Frimpong’s (5 minutes on the pitch without doing anything) are suspect.
The good :
- Isak scores again despite being anonymous for most of the game. Gaining into some form now!
- Barcola is lively but has to work a lot on his shooting and take on his full-back.
- Munoz is fast turning into the signing of this season. Never says die and kept plugging despite being a FB. Took his goal well.
- Wirtz has done well in the second half albeit with lesser pressure on him. Got a good assist too.
- Nyoni did ok, needs to be physically stronger.
- Macca shielded the defence well and got upfield when needed.
- Jacquet did well. Way better than his defensive partner.
The bad:
- Injuries properly piling up now. Iraola was lucky Isak didn’t end the game with an injury. We will possibly not see Szobo till late november or early december. Frimpong could be longer as his doesn’t look like a contact injury.
- Midfield pivot was completely nullifed until Szobo’s injury. Too predictable.
- Kerkez is back to going full instinct now. Has plenty of fight but can be suckered into challenges.
- Koumas is not the answer to back up CF. Can’t wait for Hugo.
- Rio needs to show more desire consistently.
Thank you for doing this @RedWhippet much appreciated.
Munoz was my motm. Worked his socks off and went at them, showing pace, tenacity and quality. His goal was very well taken. I also voted for Jacquet as he continues to impress, pretty much week on week. My third vote went to Barcola. On the downside he missed some chances and really should have had a goal. On the upside he was there for those chances, and on another day the early clip over Kelleher might have gone in, or the lovely shot that beat the keeper but not the bar might have gone in. His decision making was suspect in one or two promising instances, but overall, I’m talking about a man who was in the thick of a lot of consequential action, so I’m giving him my third vote even if there’s still work for him to do.
The main concern I have with the side right now is the midfield blend. It very much looks less than the sum of its parts. With a couple of ‘names’ not starting in the midweek CL game, the midfield actually looked much better, albeit against a side that would struggle in the Prem.
It’s a conundrum and it needs to improve, first and foremost on the training pitch as they get to grips with what Iraola wants; but then I would imagine we will also dip into the market for a midfielder, maybe two, depending on how things shape up.
For the first time in his imperious Liverpool career, Virgil Van Dijk has a question mark over him in my eyes. He has been superhuman for most of his time at Liverpool, and there’s nothing but respect for our captain from me. Still, I find myself wondering if he automatically starts in our best eleven. He probably does, but it is no longer ridiculous to ask the question.
I’ll end my post on a big positive. Brentford are flying high in the league, on merit. They are a good side, with plenty of quality, and they also stick their foot in and work hard.
To go there with some injuries, and at the current stage we are, which is a work in progress, and get the three points…
Get in! Well done you red men.
Sorry chaps…had to deal with a 3 legged dog and 5 puppies…then a 'tour around the Asda…tried to keep an eye on tbe score…and thought bugger at 1 : 0…but felt better seeing 1:2…now to watch on tv tonight…
Didn’t watch the game but was pleasantly surprised we won 1:2 even more surprised to see Isak on the pitch, Iraola kept that tight to his chest!
Very happy with the win and I managed to get a ticket for Tuesday really looking forward to it. cOYR
I had an inkling we would Prevail since Shearer and McCoist were adamant Liverpool would lose 2:1. It actually makes me happy when we fly under the radar.
There was nothing scrappy about his finish, his one spark of excellence in the match. Unfortunately as we are he doesn’t help us at all until he gets that one moment. Here’s to him having loads of those moments.
