Rafa scared the shit out of me!
I would say the opposite, we are probably the best in the Prem league at both defending and attcking corners.
Gotta say though Brighton were excellent with their corner routines, De Zerbi seems an excellent coach
The key issue I think was the pace of the pass, not so much the fact of the BH players around Macca. Such passes need to be firm so they get passed right back and then you beat the press with the next round of itā¦
Good post.
The only tiny disagreement I have is that I thought our game was well reffed. I agree the player could have gone for the foul on Szoboszlai as it was a clear goalscoring opportunity, but on the whole, if the rest of our games are refereed like that this season, I will take it. I thought the ref had a decent game.
City and Newcastle players avoiding red cards is a story someone in the media should start to pick at. I saw the City game and Kovacic should have been sent off twice over.
Referees moonlighting in Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia for that matter, is a massive conflict of interest, since the Premier League has allowed nation state owners. Iād like to see this practice stopped. It might be tricky to do, since Iām sure the refs will react, and probably sue, as they will want freedom of movement in their employment, and the ability to earn money where the market leads.
But it is not right, and someone in the media should be making more of this story.
You can put it down to a few things, there is no definite fault which to point the finger. The pass looked fine to me, maybe Virgil telegraphed it too easily for the pressing player to interceptā¦maybe the distance between the pass and Mac was too great but these are passes we see happen countless times, then Ali doesnāt quite ever get his bearings right, Iām ok to give equal credit to the Brighton player, he was very alert in that phase.
How can the pass be fine, if the distance is too great, hit the pass harder, their player managed to get to the ball before it reached Macallister, so it canāt be fine!
Well perhaps I have a different outlook to what constitutes as being a ābad passā, if Virg hits it harder and Mac miscontrols it or takes a heavy touch is it then his fault or Virgilās fault for fizzing it too quickly? Mac has a few yards on the Brighton lad so compare the motion of the 2 players. Mac is quite clearly seen being caught on his heels, then quickly realises Adingra in his blind spot before he can react and by that time itās too late. A proper DM for me deals with that situation better and uses his body to shield man from ball, just my take of course but itā's fine margins whichever side of the fence youāre looking from.
Incredible how Allison is getting a free pass here.
Heās way more at fault than VDV or Mac.
Mac needed to attack the ball and pass it back to Alisson end of!
Alisson was out of position so our players could pass to him thatās his role in the team an extra outfield player when in posession.
Hasnāt had a free pass I have mentioned his slowness in getting back and when doing so being in the wrong position
Mac has 3 players converging on him, but isnāt aware of their full back, whereas Virg should be, even the best DM canāt hold off 3 players and especially on a underhit pass.
Lastly in his position he isnāt moving towards the ball as a midfielder he is moving laterally to create angles to receive a pass and to be an option.
Mac isnāt completely blameless but is a lot less culpable for the goal than Virg and Ali
Its a sloppy goal but mistakes happen - no big deal
Macca waits for the pass to arrive, inviting the pressing defender. IMO, Macca needs to move to the ball, and play it back. He does that, never an issue.
Itās a fundamental of almost any sport played: Go to, and play the ball, do not let the ball play you.
I see that PGMOL have covered themselves with glory again. Well done.
A good point at a tough place these days. It keeps us in contention for a top four place, and in reach of the very top. I donāt think we can complain too much.
Obviously, weāll need at some point to get rid of our tendency to concede too many clear chances. Until that is achieved, we canāt really aspire to be top dogs Iām afraid, no matter how much goals we score.
Yup ultimately itās one of those games where we just didnāt do enough it will happen. Not going crap on a team and start suggesting stuff based on one goal.
Iām suspecting that Klopp is saying the exact opposite about conceding sloppy goals to his players.
He is because they need to be stamped out. But they dont represent some big weakness in the team that needs to be addressed
So what can we squabble about until the next match then?
Currently, Iād say itās our main weakness.
So what are we going to do? Drop Trent? Buy new players who dont make mistakes?
The points isnt that these sort of fuck ups are acceptable. Itās that they not, yet, an indication of a team that has issues to fix if it wants to be competitive.
