Post Match: Brighton v Liverpool (EPL 8/10/23 2pm)

The club should be all over any contentious decisions that go against us, especially with a couple of mancs with plenty of previous officiating
If we slip back into our old ways of acceptance then it’s all pretty fucking pointless.

Not just the UAE, they were in Saudi Arabia towards the end of last season.

It’s a good job those states don’t own those clubs, as the Premier League went to great lengths to make sure wasn’t the case.

You have to wonder if there is a conspiracy to stop LFC winning the league.
The week after the most farcical moment in VAR history you’d think they would be extra vigilant when doing the next LFC game - but nope they “fuck up” again.
Yet look at City yesterday - Kovac should’ve had 2 reds but VAR say jumping with 2 feet off the ground and coming down on the opponents heel is fine.

We didnt help ourselves during the match. We were lethargic and sloppy.
Every sub came on and made us worse.
We still have that issue of being so poor without the ball and teams just waltz through us.

I think we need to take a deep breath here and acknowledge that while our version 2.0 rebuild is going well, there are still niggling issues in our midfield system to be ironed out. Our attack, while brilliant, missed Jota and Gakpo to rotate to further pressurize Brighton.
On our defence, 2 mistakes gifted 2 avoidable goals. Jurgen and his coaches need to really look into our defending set pieces as well as communication issues there.
Still, we are 1 point closer to City compared to last week. They are the team to catch. The rest I don’t think will have the staying power to compete over the season.

JK seems very reticent to play Endo. Is he not convinced by him? He’s the only dedicated no 6 we have. Mac is wasted in that roll and clearly not comfortable playing it. He’s a box to box player. That’s how he normally played for Brighton and nearly always plays for Argentina.

A midfield three of Endo, Mac Alistair and Sobo would theoretically be much more balanced. He may be a stop gap, but Endo as a shield for the back four would make us much more solid and hopefully cure the nasty habit we have developed of always giving the opposition a goal start.

It’s not the first time VVD has cost us a goal, by making a pass like the one yesterday. He did it against Bournemouth at Anfield. He must’ve seen the three Brighton players in close proximity to MacAllister, waiting to pounce.

Yes that pass to Trent.

was impressed with the DM from Brighton (carlos Baleba), didnt know he was only 19…we need to poach Brighton scouts

If Endo would have been playing stop gap yesterday… there is no way VVD risks passing the ball to him in an identical scenario… Too much was asked of Mac, no matter how good a footballer he is.
Even Messi in his prime would have struggled to get out of that situation with the ball still at his feet.

It’s been widely argued that Van Dijk lost a step after Pickford’s karate move on him and maybe he has. Personally, I think that at worst he’s still around 90-95% physically before his injury. It is his decline on the mental aspect of the game that has been far more pronounced and inexplicable. Dumb lazy passes from the back, mediocre positioning, poor awareness and poor reactions in general, none of it you would associate with him 2-3 years ago.

I congratulate you on the rose tintedness of those glasses. He’s 80% at best sadly and it’s absolutely understandable. Has there ever been a footballer who’s come back to anything even close to their best after a mangled knee?

These are older cases. Modern medicine offers far better chances of making a full recovery.

Is it really any riskier to the passes our CB’s usually play into feet of the midfielders? To me it just looked like Mac was caught on his heels a half second too long and then credit has to go to Adingra, that sharpness to press that quickly after Virg plays the pass was incredible….another day Virgil plays the same pass and Mac plays it first time round the corner to Robbo with the opposition player a second too late with the press and we’re building an attack.

Stop. That was all on Trent. He was asking for the ball. He had plenty of time. Playing in those space is a requirement of how we play and for Trent in that role. He just took a sunday league touch and gave it to a player who wasn’t even trying to press him.

IMO we still have massive problems defending corners and free kicks. … and since Rogers day. When Dunk equalised they had 5 players huddled up to attack the center and 1st post, we had 5 players defending the back post, what is this shit?

I don’t think he is. He might do as some sort of play maker all I know is he’s no DM. Looks better further forward even so gets pushed off the ball very easily. Not much in the wardrobe from what I’ve seen though when he has time he can eventually control the ball and send a nice pass.

Didn’t we have the lowest goals conceded from set pieces for like 3 years straight?

But VAR still could’ve checked for a straight red there though, no? Pretty sure it checked (& cleared) Virgil at Newcastle.

In any case for me the decision not to get the pen at Chelsea was a worst call.

Looks so awful I almost die due to holding my breath. Just looks sooo incompetent!

I’m sure you’ll have enjoyed the Rafa and zonal marking years, when everyone was adamant that our zonal marking was terrible and led to us conceding from set pieces a lot… Despite having a similar record.
