Tierney and Hooper tried their best to level the playing field, unfortunately for them Burnley are fucking crap.
Should really have been 4 or 5, but as always winning was the most important thing. A pretty good performance bar a strange ten or so minutes after the second robbery. Darwin has that monkey of his back now with a great finish and Jota is straight back to business.
Forget the goals, Iām still in shock at our lads getting multiple warnings for moving when taking throw ins meanwhile Burnley were literally running down the line before taking them.
There was one throw in that went out right next ti the corner flag and the lad ended up taking it in line with the edge of the 18 yard box
Didnāt actually see the touch that set Jota for the goal, delicate little flick by Diaz right into Jotaās pathā¦then the first touch and finish is incredible. Absolutely one of the best finishers around.
The impact on the keeper is part of the decision making process. Salah had zero impact on the goalkeeper, heās already committed to go to his right hand side.
If Salah didnāt exist nothing about that goal changes.
Which finishes could we have done better from today? Maybe the one Gakpo shanked in the first half, Mo hitting the bar for most players wouldnāt even be a chance. Trafford did well to stifle out the chances we created from being anything more.
We scored 4 brilliant goals today. The Harvey one I can understand why but the Gakpo one is an absolute joke.
It is, but only as a means for giving offside against a player who isnāt directly in the line of sight. If youāre in the keeperās line of sight, as he clearly was, that is all that matters.
What irked me about the Elliot goal being disallowed is that it encapsulates everything that is wrong with the current implementation of VAR. I would have had no problem with Tierney making a call that Salahās position unsighted the goalkeeper, and making a call to disallow. That is the sort of decision you expect the on-field officials to make. Instead, they leave that call to VAR.
From there, what should VARās intervention have been instead? Well, Salah was pushed into an offside position by deliberate action of a Burnley defender. Hard to expect a referee to catch that focused on the ball, but it was key to the play.
Bullshit. Didnāt City get a similar a couple of weeks ago?
Watching the boss interviewed on Amazon, and none of them think it was offside. The fact that the Burnley player literally pushed Mo into an offside position should be considered.
