Post match: Burnley v Liverpool (EPL 14/9/25 2pm)

I think he’s first name on the team sheet currently. Only question is which position to play him in

The fun thing is, last year there were a bunch of people on here questioning his place in the team when he was playing in that more attacking of the three. Now there’s people questioning Wirtz in that role already.

It’s almost as if we’ve got really good players but the ask if the one in that spot is incredibly hard and we should all perhaps stop jumping to such quick and definitive conclusions about players.

We are all guilty of questioning players and we all get some wrong, it’s how you question that is important and also if you understand the game.

It amazes me how people feel we should batter a team like Burnley, when in reality no team is a pushover if they apply themselves, especially if their sole purpose is a draw.

I have played for teams that have ran away with the league and gone and lost to the bottom placed team. Just happens.

As you say, the result fully vindicated his choices, but not only the result. Am I the only one who saw how our team progressively turned the screw on Burnley, putting them under more and more pressure? During the last 15 minutes or so, the game was played in their last 30 yards. I actually enjoyed watching that too. Every change made by Slot enhanced the pressure on Burnley. Robertson, Chiesa, Bradley, Ngumoha, Frimpong. They all contributed their part to make that defence crack eventually.

In fact, the strange thing is that the bounce on that poor defender’s arm didn’t happen earlier, or any other haphazard resulting from the pressure being put on that defence. Had everything been logical, we’d have scored earlier. But their hard work and a bit of luck kept them in the game. Ultimately, the result being decided by one of these situations is nothing but logical, albeit a bit late in the game. Also, we have now scored a lot of late goals. Haphazard? I wouldn’t think so, not anymore.

The other really satisfying thing from this game is that we not only kept the clean sheet, which was obviously crucial, but we never gave them a sniff at our goal, never. They ended up with zero shots on our goal. At home. One can say that they didn’t really try to attack us, but we really closed them down well and just wouldn’t let them get into their rhythm attacking-wise.

Despite of us not being at our best yet, it’s still one of our most accomplished performances this season, right in the line of what the lads showed against Arsenal. Having found back a solid defence will help us a lot going forward.

I would have. But the traffic into Manchester was solid.

Had the goal came earlier we’d have had more opportunities to extend the lead. Burnley done fantastic until the 94th minute. They came not to lose and almost succeeded in doing so. What makes them look unlucky? is that they broke so late in the game. They put all the players in their box and invited us to try find the space to break them down,a very difficult thing to do with so many players in such a small area.

In order for us to be called lucky we would also need to be clearing chances of our line and to be under pressure ourselves and that hasn’t really happened other than maybe Newcastle.

Thats why I cant look biased Carragher so I will say silly stuff came out with the nonsense of they caused us problems on the break. If thats the case why did they finish with xg of zerooooo.

They were absolutely shite going forward. Not once during any of their breakaways from turnovers did you think there was the slightest chance they were ever going to trouble Ali.

Anthony had a breakaway shot early on from edge of the box which went over, a bit like gravs. That’s about the only chance I can remember them having.

That was the one moment upon which the commentators based the whole ‘causing problems on the break’ narrative.
It’s like they decided in advance what the story was going to be.

Thats Carragher all over hes already decided ths season we give up too many chances so has to comment to that that narrative.

I know it affects Everton fans really badly. So funny.

I couldn’t listen anymore, after Murphy said “Liverpool edged it, just about”. Burnley hardly came out of their half all game and had no intention of trying to win it. Scott Parker said he was proud of his players. What for? Keeping the score down!! It was rubbish to watch, but if Burnley fans are happy paying to watch that crap every week, good luck to them.
The only difference between their current team and when Sean Dyche was in charge is, they didn’t attempt to kill our players.

Personally, I thought that was a vast improvement!

Maybe, my memory’s not as good, at my age.

They don’t need to do it every week,
only those times where if they try to play against much better teams they get well beaten. So they will sit back against LFC, Utd, city arsenal and a few others but try to give the remaining teams a game in which they attempt to win.

About a minute from the end I stopped watching accepting we would only get a draw and started making a cup of coffee. I came back to look at this thread but looked at LFCtv before that, when I saw that we had scored I went crazy 4th bloody time in a row they did that.
I hope we start to click into a semi organised win to manage my ticker, a friend died of a heart attack in a taxi back from Heathrow airport after a holiday in the US, despite a CPR from the driver and in hospital he was already dead. A reminder to me that it is Time to enjoy life as we don’t know what is round the corner. COYR
