For me we are having to carry Mo and he really isn’t offering enough on the right. I’d like to see him subbed when things aren’t happening - I know he scored the winner but he really looked least like making a difference today.
I thought Wirtz’ movement was top, he was finding the only pockets of space left by the double decker banks of 5 bus yet our players struggled to get the ball to him in time in those positions. By the time they did he was surrounded by 4 or 5 opposition players. Robbo was playing him in quickly when he came on hence Wirtz improvement in the 2nd half.
Gravenberch has gone from strength to strength. Some of his turns and flicks out of trouble were excellent. There’s not another 6 in the league who can do what he does with the ball at his feet, just a joy to watch. A win and a clean sheet is always a good day at the office. 4 games 4 late winning goals I know there is an influx of new players in this team but it’s great to see the never give up winning mentality still there!
Effectively you should of dropped them off a bit earlier ![]()
i thought Wirtz was fine to very good, but does need a goal or an assist to get this thing moving in the right direction.
given the context of the game, he looked like a five a side player in small spaces while most others looked like 11 a side players, he was trying to pick locks with no one to bounce off…
the onlyone looking likely to join him was Ekitike, maybe Gravenberch if he could get in the box…was suprised Mo Stayed on while Ekitike and Wirtz both were removed.
Salah really offering nothing, dispatched the penalty well, but somehow getting Rio on for Mo and reshuffling the pack was what i wanted to see
didnt think Gakpo was a one trick pony like everyone making out, he does however, love to cut in when given a sniff, and its paid dividends over the journey so its worth persevering with
Gravenberch was again brilliant.
fascinating game in reality and you could see from kick off how it was going to pan out
quitely impressed by our patience, picking our way through two solid banks of 4 and 5 was no easy task…players like robbo, salah, bradley, chiesa all like space to work in so was a little suprised, again, by the players replaced given the context of the game
but Slot is a better manager than i will ever be, so whilst i question what he did, he still ended up with three points, so he can point to that…
id love to see alisons heat map of touches on the ball…
To be honest, other than Ekitike, the other new signings have yet to really get going. But it’s important to know it’s just 4 games in, if they are still not getting into the groove by Christmas, we would then be rightly quite concerned. The unfortunate thing is a player like Wirtz is going to be under alot of pressure to perform. He was expected to unlock such type of defences. He had a couple of good quick interplays, so hope for more of that.
only 4 games in, interrupted by an international break, a few new players being integrated into the system and we have max., points. I think we should be a little more patient with our players, because gone are the days, when new players were first playing with the reserves to get used to our system. Confidence and belief will increase in our players as positive results and full support from fans will help. Rant over

Also us scoring late winning goals every week has to affect opposition teams psychologically. Every team seems to raise their game against Liverpool but players in the latter stages of a match are fatigued physically and mentally from such efforts, yet that’s when they need to be at peak concentration against us. It makes them more prone to mistakes or lapses in concentration. And at this level it’s such fine margins that one lapse defensively gets punished by us in crunch time. We don’t even need to be playing well. It reminds me of what former tennis stars said about facing Novak Djokovic. That he keeps you in the game and lets you think you have a chance and just wears you down bit by bit until he forces you into making a mistake and then punishes you when it matters most. That’s pretty much what we do to teams.
What about this bit of filth from Gravy, taking the pish or what ![]()
I couldn’t make head or tail of our tactics against Burnley. Noone seemed to take the game by the scruff of the neck until Robertson came on.
Our passing was off which meant we couldn’t accelerate the game. Each game seems to have a different issue. I suppose this means when/if it clicks what we are doing should work well.
Anyway it got slow and ponderous and nerve wracking. Not easy or nice to watch yet well worth it.
Burnley always punch above their weight. Defensively ugly team.
.
Any result at Turf Moor is a great result.
Yeah, the judgement of Flo from this game is a bit on the nose.
The truth is that if you look at a signing like Flo - very skillful and accurate passing in tight spaces and quick of thought - these are the sort of attributes we are looking for when playing a team that’s sole purpose is to take a point, at home by rigidly playing 2 banks of 5. Maybe the main reason we signed him.
But even the best players in the world can’t always make something happen out of nothing if there is absolutely no space. Watch how quickly the Burnley players retreated into their box when we were playing it from the back. They gave us very little.
Flo is here to improve us in this area, not to guarantee success in it. City even in their heyday with KDB on fire couldn’t always break down a well drilled defence like Burnley played last night. The more players we have that can create a big moment in the match occur against a dogged defence, the better.
I’m sure Flo will do that several times this year. And btw, this certainly won’t be the last time we see a tactic like Burnley employed yesterday so Flo will have ample opportunity to prove his worth.
Caught sleeping again…
There were a couple of occasions when he beat his markers and paused momentarily, looking for the best pass. Once he knows where his team-mates are likely to be, and once they know where he is likely to pass to, that will be an instantaneous, single touch pass.
It doesn’t help that we are operating with new full-backs as well, as they are essential to beating a low block. I thought we looked more effective with Robertson and Bradley in the second half, because they are better drilled in the team tactics.
It’s still early days, and these things will improve with practice. Of course, we have to integrate Isak into this as well.
Szoboszlai is making a case to continue starting for us when we have all of our midfield available. He’s making himself available with and without the ball, and asserting himself there.
True. Last season he seems the most likely person to be replaced in the starting 11 with Wirtz signed. But he is making himself relevant in the games he played regardless of position thus far. Better application of the capabilities we all know he has.
Its the knew trend now Trent has left.
Its noticeable his energy is missing from the midfield when not there
Offensive corners, semesters, gotten. Jeez..I thought this was meant to be a forum for fans of Liverpool Football Club..not the Miami Marauders or the Baton Rouge Buccaneers.
Really like the honesty about the dive/not a pen from Kerkez.
