Post match: Burnley v Liverpool (EPL 14/9/25 2pm)

Kerkez’s robust style is, for the most part, what we need. He was excellent against Arsenal and other aspects of his game will grow as we go. His dive today was stupid, and they were targeting him a bit once he was on a yellow. Slot is a very good leader and he hooked him, pointing out a few places where he needed to keep his cool a bit better. It was the first half and a lesser manager would have waited, but Slot took corrective action right away.

Robbo came on and had a good game. He clipped in a few good crosses and did better than most in helping us win the points.

Fair enough I missed read.

The concerning thing is its twice in the first 4 games hes been subbed.

Whether it is fully appreciated or not, he is running himself into the ground in the minutes he’s on the pitch, which was one the positive things said about him befire we signed him. This is a different intensity though and so he doesn’t yet have the legs to do it through 90 mins

Kerkez probably stays on from Slot’s comments it’s rare for a manager to do that but credit sometimes you have to remove the guy from that atmosphere to keep your advantage.

Lads, why all the bickering? We won, we’re top of the league on maximum points, what’s more, we are going to get much better in the next couple of months.
We should be celebrating.

The occasional use of punctuation might help understanding by the way

Flo had the enviable task of finding space in the middle of two banks of 5 and sometimes he managed to thread the ball through the eye of a needle. He kept trying but that kind of tactic is soul destroying.

Given the club spent a record fee on him quite early on in the window I think it would be fair to assume Slot and co thought he was a pretty vital addition.

Pretty happy he’s here too, otherwise we’d have started today with Endo, Grav and a half fit Macca in midfield.

A minute or 2 before being subbed off he had his arm around a burnley player in the box while also pulling at his jersey with the other hand. Nothing happened but he was taking a risk which could have had him off and a peno given.

Absolutely. He’s not hit the heights just yet but you get glimpses that shows you that when it clicks he’ll be great.

11 men behind the ball today. Arsenal turned up with three DMs, Newcastle the same. And still he’s flashed what’s to come despite the team not clicking just yet and a host of other players settling in too.

And who are you to tell me I can’t bicker

In the game today, taking everything into account, be it first game after an International break, be it still very early season and players getting up to speed, be it new formations, be it new players bedding in at Anfield and the City, and landing from another country for some… we could all see the disjointed performance on show… but then so what…!! It is early days.
We have 12pts from 12pts - and yet, we still have the most expensive transfer, with his lethal scoring boots at the ready, waiting to play his first game in a red shirt…!

Personally I don’t really care if we stagger through to Christmas time, picking up more points than any other team along the way.
This team will eventually ‘click’ at some point this season.

After every game, AS and the backroom staff will be educating each and every player regarding their performance. Guidance will be given, instructions laid down, and rules of what is expected, and what is not expected from them - This takes time, and it takes games to build up a players portfolio, and a track record of expected improvements to their game.
As a fan of LFC, we are in exciting times…

4 mediocre performances, 4 wins.
Imagine what will happen when we are on our peak.
Come christmas we will be out of sight.

Today was a far better performance than Newcastle away, albeit against a team who had no intention of actually making it a game of football.
However, I actually gave up on us scoring after 65-70 minutes, made my peace with taking a point and moving on to the 2 sets of cloggers we face later this week.
I think AS seriously needs to look at our attacking play and make some changes. We are slow, ponderous, predictable and profligate up top. It’s nothing new, we have played like this against low block teams for years but our chance creation is shite and I thought Ekitike was already showing signs of frustration with the scraps he’s feeding off. Salah and Gakpo have been bog standard so far this season, I know exactly what both of them are going to do the moment they get the ball so I assume the opposition do too.
Wirtz showed one or two decent touches but for the money paid he needs to start showing a lot more.
Gravenberch MOTM, Szoboslai is looking more like the player of 2 years ago and VVD looks back to his best. Robbo needs to keep his place.

Gakpo cuts in, if he doesn’t shoot he plays loads of floated crosses to the back post for Salah, who is poor in the air attacking those types of crosses, I groan everytime he tries it, if it was Ekitike there I could understand it!

Not sure I get the Gakpo hate so far this season. He has a goal and 2 assists through 4 games and I thought he looked excellent against Bournemouth and was our best attacker vs Newcastle.

Today, he beat Kyle Walker consistently; both by cutting inside (his typical move) and he beat Walker to the byline for a cut back cross multiple times as well. Hard to say he was predictable if he is beating his defender both directions.

As far as the attack, I thought both Ekitike and Salah were far worse today than Gakpo. None of them were great and the subs helped a lot.

I was taking Mrs CDO to the City game. We were in the Asda over the road from City. I’d forgotten my phone. The only one who could get the match score was my Grandson. He kept saying 0-0. Right up till 90+2. Then they left for the game. I left the Asda and parked up in Tesco ( I know but you get charged in Asda for parking over 90 minutes).
When I put the radio on to find on to find out the score we’d won 1-0.

Luving it.

Whatever you make of the game the top line of the table looks damn fine to me.
