Post match: Chelsea v Liverpool (EPL 2/1/22 4.30pm)

They got away with one at Anfield, we got away with one at their shitty place. Meh. The titles gone. We just need to stay in top 4 and concentrate on winning the CL. Pep guardiola will have an absolute meltdown if he doest win the CL

In absolutely no context would Sadio ever make these same comments about one of his fellow countrymen to gain any competitive advantage. Edouard Mendy should just keep his mouth shut. Disappointing coward.

He told RMC Sport: ‘Sadio is my brother, my compatriot. But he should not have stayed on the pitch after one minute.’

Despite his comments it was all-smiles for the pair as Mendy shared a picture on Instagram of the pair heading off to the African Cup of Nations which takes place in Cameroon.

Haven’t heard anything, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he got a few minutes in the cup games.

disappointment still flowing after letting that 2 - 0 lead slip. But our team is very passive at decisions that go against us. The only lad that really gets stuck-in is Millie. We never surround refs or push hard enough to question their decisions, and they are well aware of it, so constantly give decisions against us. That’s not to take away from the quality of refs being sub-standard. We are a team, sorry a club that seems honest, mild-mannered, non-aggressive, polite, play by the rules group. Our lads get repeatedly fouled and refs just wave play-on, with nobody asking the ref, why they consistently let niggly fouls on our lads be given a warning to the culprits. I think other teams have taken notice of this trend and constantly foul our lads, knowing that they will get away with it

The calls for a major midfield overhaul are over the top. If that were the case, it would have became obvious a long time ago and not all of the sudden in the middle of the season.

On paper, the available midfielders are more than a match for any team in the league. It’s a combination of an altered setup and tactics, fitness issues and of mental errors that have seen us drop off.

Best case scenario…it’s 8 points…

We beat them and they lose somewhere else, it becomes 2.

If we’re 2 behind going into the final half-dozen games they’ll be shitting bricks. The simple fact of the matter is that they are not unbeatable. They will slip up somewhere. We need to do our part.

Now…I admit this is the rosiest appraisal of the situation, but this shit can turn very quickly.

Addendum…I guarantee you the lads and the coaches are going into work every single day and doing all of the big things as well as the million and one little things it takes to be an elite sportsperson (the recovery, the nutrition etc)…I guarantee you they are leaving no stone unturned and pushing as hard as they can to win this fucker.

None of us should give up until they do. They deserve that much.

Agree with you regarding Mané’s foul. We got off with one there, probably because it was so early in the game.

On the other hand, as Mascot said, that decision seemed to stay in Taylor’s head for the rest of the game. That’s why he was never going to send Mount off for his offence on Tsimikas, which he could easily have done otherwise. It was a rough one too.

I read we have signed 4 players in the llast 7 transfer windows and one of them, Thiago, is always injured.
We’ve done well to stay in touch but unfortunately when we lose a few it’s starting to show.
Hasn’t Salah asked about recruitment in contract negotiations allegedly? He has every right to if he has.
FSG will need to put their hand in their pocket because soon the front 3s contracts are all up at the same time.
Midfield is looking tired and needs an overhaul.
We need some depth.

It’s amazing we have stayed in touch but I think this squad needs a freshen up. It’s what Fergie was great at - just changed 2 or 3 each year.

Also we need to bin off this high line. It’s not working for us.

VVD for me is still nowhere near the levels he was before the injury. I think he could’ve done more for the 2nd goal as he didn’t even try and closes down Pulisic. He was out a long time and it’s taking him time to get his levels back.

I was very pleased with how we coped yesterday evening. Chelsea were very physical and fast, we could have crumbled (particularly if Keita had started) however Tsimikas, Konaté, Fabinho, Henderson, Milner and Mané stood up to the task. Both Jota and Mané put in incredible shifts.
Despite that our lines get pulled about too much. Our midfield particularly ends up too far or too close to the defense or the attack however that’s been a problem for ages and is what the opposition exploit. Chelsea’s pressing I thought was better than ours particularly from their forwards (then pressing 2 CB’s is easier than pressing 5 defenders).
Great match for the neutrals and a draw was realistic.
Ref was inconsistent on elbows in the face we get a yellow for one understandable one they don’t get any cards for straight forward aggressions on 2 occassions. :rage:
I’m surprised by some of the comments above about who was frustrating considering the style of match, both Hendo and Fabs got catch ‘napping’ but with the speed and physicallity of their press that happens (putting in a more composed player just doesn’t help in those situations). Milner was Milner we all know he’s too slow now (always was a bit slow) but the physical pressence was needed.
Salah was who frustrated me most, he just doesn’t attack the ball with the timing and energy required letting the defender get there 1st (that’s what tripped Hendo up a lot he needed Salah to get to those balls (it’s not like he didn’t know they were for him he even started going for them before the defender but without the necessary attitude).
We seemed to settle for a draw and it was good to see us ‘park the bus’ with a degree of competence, it really isn’t our thing and that was a good exercise.
I know dropping points is dissappointing however all considering we did well in that match! imo.

Agree with this 100% but none of it is ever going to happen. I’ve said it for years, we are a spineless club totally incapable of standing up for ourselves. Always wanting to be seen as doing things the right way despite never getting an ounce of credit for it.
Young Harvey Elliott saying the Leeds bloke didn’t deserve a red card after his reckless tackle put him out for 4 or 5 months, Robbo (according to the liar Kane) saying it wasn’t a red card tackle…and yet our opponents in every fucking game we play will scream at referees to try and get our lads carded at every opportunity.
Bullies always pick their mark, those they perceive as being weak, and that’s why this situation has developed over the years with players, match officials and all sections of the media feeling they have free reign to fuck us over.

That stuck-in was the reason why Chelsea got back in the match. A smart player knows where and when on the pitch you should do that.

That’s exactly the reason why no action was taken. Mount is one of those players, who is now beyond criticism, just like Rashford and Kane.

Don’t get me wrong I’m as frustrated as the next man at our shortcomings this season and like everyone else feel the need to vent when it goes tits-up.
The thing is though what we are seeing from every club in the league is normal, bar the financially doped, sports-washing cheats formerly known as Manchester City.
They have created a league with no margin for error, a league where you quite simply cannot afford a 3 game blip because if you have one it’s game over.

Did not think it was red for Mount but Taylor did not even show him yellow.

I watch our Sky games with the sound off as I can’t stand the commentary. I’m surprised so many people think the Mane foul was a sending off. Without someone telling me what I was looking at it seemed a clear accident. Yellow card definitely but not a red. The Mount challenge on Tsimikas looked pre-meditated. He was luckier to stay on.

Shout out to Anthony Taylor. I thought he managed the game pretty well.
