Not good enough.

2 points out of 9. We need to somehow put a winning run together without Salah/Mane/Keita.

The League Cup first leg and FA Cup third round game - we can use these two as a good platform to gel together without them. Get players who don’t normally play in the first eleven some time to get into rhythm.

They need to walk the talk. If they cannot fund us, please sell the shares to some interested party that can raise us some funds.

At the same time, if I am the MD of LFC, this is the time that I sit both Michael Edwards and Klopp together in a meeting to go thru’ a list of players to keep or sell. We will use stats and game analysis to back up our decisions. With the list of players to sell, who can we sell in Jan to raise some funds? Mike Eds will be responsible for finding that out. As for Klopp, I will discuss with him the finances and get him to list down a top priority of players that he want. Particularly in the midfield.

I thought Sadio was lucky to stay on, he looked at Azpi, who I loathe, before hitting him with his forearm, Pulisic was more 50/50 as his momentum after winning the ball took him into Diogo, unlike Kanes which to me was 100% red

I actually thought we looked good when they both came on until Taylor decided on 80 mins to give 3 non-fouls to Chelski, which ended our good little spell

At least Gini could stabilise the LCM role back then but currently, I can’t see anyone doing that well now.

Yep no different from Manes

And on another day, that Rudiger interception would not have gone straight to a free Chelsea player at the perfect speed and trajectory.

But yes, VVD should’ve made a move towards the player, if only to try to make him panic and snatch at it.

I’m not in ‘FSG out’ crew but really do think we missed the boat by not strengthening from a position of strength. Hendo and Millie should never be starting together. They still have something to offer but we should have started succession planning for C and VC well over a year ago

Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is never boring with us. Incredible intensity from the start with both teams. We would have wanted more control, we had so many good counter attacks but it was just missing the last pass.

"Overall, for the public it must have been an unbelievable game. I have to say, the situation we are in it is a big compliment for the team. We could have made a lot of excuses for today but our boys fought hard with all they heart they have.

"We want to approach each game like it is a final. In each game we play, whoever is wearing the shirt or on the bench, we are showing this character.

"It was good that game was 11 v 11. We are here to entertain and to win each time and as I said at the start of the interview it is never boring.

"We have many different weapons. They [Salah and Mane] are incredibly important because they give us face, they give direction in a game and they give us desire.

“I wish them all the best in the Africa Cup of Nations. Everyone knows how it feels to play for your country. They have the right to fight for each prize as it comes.”

On Chelsea goals: “Two incredible goals. You always try to put organisation in place to stop these situations but two incredible goals.”

I think it’s reasonable to suggest he wouldnt get that right again with another 1000 attempts, but he meant it so cannot call it a fluke.

Yeah, suggesting there was any gamesmanship on the Sadio one is nuts as he was very lucky to stay on the pitch. That was 100% on him.

What it did mean though, as I commented on during the game, was it felt like the ref saw every subsequent challenge in the context of already having let us get away with one. It wasn’t just the borderline ones like that one on Jota and back to back shithouse moments from Mount, but just a general sense of allowing them a level of physicality we were not allowed. For a side that puts such an emphasis on winning second balls, those sort of handcuffs are critical.

Ultimately though we went out there without 5 likely/certain starters plus our manager. Yes the game threw up issues that need to be fixed, but those 5 players do fix a lot of those issues.

He still was better than the other 2 but covered too much ground and I do agree father time is catching up with his sharpness on the ball and agility wise, his engine is still good, but getting old its the reactions that go and I know that way too well :sob:

Yep agree

We didn’t really have control of the match at all today. Too often our midfield was bypassed through quick passing from Chelsea and exposed our backline. These last two match really show the shortcomings of our midfield. If we want to consistently challenge for trophies we need a lynchpin midfielder in our starting 11. I don’t think we don’t have that right now. I used to think Fab would be the guy, but lately he is no where his best and I am not sure if COVID took a little step or two from him. He’s too slow and in many occasions gets pickpocket at a very dangerous position. Hendo has been poor the last few weeks. Chelsea second goal kinda stemmed from Hendo and Fab mistake. I’m not taking anything away from Hendo and he’s still a fantastic captain, but going forward he shouldn’t be starting too many games for us if we want to have a for dynamic midfield. Milly played ok, but at this point of his career he’s just filling in. We don’t really have a Mo Salah in mid, and I feel if we have any money for transfer we need to seriously being someone in for Mid.
The forwards did ok today, put in a shift closing down spaces. It’s gonna be interesting next few weeks without Mo and Mane.
The backline was constantly under pressure from Chelsea Overlapping Wingers. The defense did well consider they didn’t get too much protection from midfield. Finally Kellecher saved our bacon today, he’s always so calm and never seem bother with the pressure mounting. I for one would give him more chances to play and see if we have a Gem on our hand.

On to League cup, let’s try to win this and get a trophy early in the year

Our improvement is when Chelsea changed formation Tuchel realised and changed back.

However, on their 2nd goal I felt we should have had a foul as Virg jumped to head the ball and their player just played him rather than the ball.

Some absolute shit takes in this thread.

We are going through a patch of poor form. I think no one can contest that.

We also won a bunch of games at the start of the season. Again, no one can contest that.

The season we won the league, we were relentless at the start of the season, and our form faltered towards the end.

Last season, we were leading the table for the start of the season, and were definitely the form team by the end.

Our poor form has also coincided with increased injuries and disruption in our team. When we have something approaching a fuller squad, we suddenly have absences due to COVID. We can’t even train with the full squad consistently.

We also usually recover fairly well from such slumps. Jürgen and company earn their money for that. We did have periods of bad spells in 2019-20 as well, but one thing we usually did rather well was score to make up for those. If we’d taken our chances properly in the last 3 games, we could well have won, and the narrative would have been very different. On the other hand, we were scoring freely until the last few games.

I don’t think the title is lost necessarily, even though our luck and the absolutely shambolic state of the referees in the league hasn’t helped us. I’m confident that we can still pull something out of the bag. There are plenty of games left for that.

Apart from luck and the referees, I think the main problem we face that might not be fixable for now, is that Origi and Minamino are both injured at a time when we’re losing Salah and Mané to AFCON. That’s 4 forwards out. With Firmino testing positive for COVID, we’re down to Jota, and at a stretch, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jones. Good thing we only have cup games coming up…

Yes but Virg made no effort and that is something I can’t abide, players make mistakes but do you most to try and help the situation!!! and Virg did eff all
