Post match: Chelsea v Liverpool (EPL 4/5/25 4.30pm)

Don’t want to sound cruel but the fringe players who played today showed why they are fringe players. A poor day for all of them.

I wish people would make there minds up. Till today Elliott deserved to play.

Essentially the sentiment has coalesced around two points of view:

  • The squad players played poorly and so they therefore don’t deserve to get more time, or to have gotten more time throughout the season.
  • We made far too many changes to the team for any player to really shine. You can’t blame individuals for that.

Honestly it’s not too far off the talk around the Plymouth Argyle game. I think one thing that people tend to forget about that game is that we lost Gomez early on, and then Mabaya had to be taken off after having come on as a sub.

I wonder if the camp one falls into between the two perspectives is related to what one already thought about the aforementioned squad players…

Rested starters to keep them fresh for twisting the knife into Arsenal next week.
Chelsea fans though, singing sign on at earliest opportunity, and this individual berating Salah

Maybe neither of the two we have really fit what Slot wants but he keeps playing with a central striker, and one was central to his time at Feynoord, so clearly he’s hoping for something from them that he’s not getting.

Personally I reckon Jota is struggling to get back up to speed after his injury and Nunez’s future has already been decided and communicated to him.

Is that the knock off Mauricio Pochettino on the right?

I hate losing.

I think we all do…one thing softened the defeat…we are PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS…but still feels a bit shit…

Imagine being Arteta. If only Arsenal wasn’t injured and the ball wasn’t tricky and they didn’t have to play twice a day.

Then imagine being us.

We’ve won the title anyhow.

I feel it was disappointing not to do better.
Too many changes to be coherent from the off. Elliot took time to get involved I was hoping for better. Quandah had some poor moments. Salah never got going. We were quite disjointed a lot of the time
We dominated most of the match. We just didn’t have the thrust to do the damage. They wanted it more, obviously, quicker and more aggressive when it mattered.
Endo did generally well a good little scrapper.
Anyway nothing lost.
Perhaps Slot will involve other players a bit more next season so someone can actually fit in when needed?

I don’t think they were doing too poorly at the start of the season, despite what has been said. It’s only been since around February that the position in general has become a little of a blac hole, in my opinion.

Elliott and Quansah have regressed under Slot and if today was a shop window experiment it was not a good showing. Quansah credited with og and gives away a penalty, Elliott just struggled all game.
Shame we had to play these tunts after winning the title, things would have been different if we were still chasing it.
I think if we got a good offer for either players they would be moved on.

I think the problem with Elliott is he needs game time and I’m not sure we can offer that, plus every injury he has is a setback.

Quansah looks a shadow of himself. Wouldn’t surprise me if he is sold.

The issue with squad players in general is they’re afforded less margin for error in case they don’t impress, so in Harvey or Jarrell’s case if they don’t play like prime Baresi or Zidane in the 1 game they’re (reluctantly) afforded…back on the bench they go for the next 6 months all the while players like Szobo and Jota get free pass after free pass.

Nothing wrong with rotating a couple of players but that was 6 changes.
