Just watched the game and haven’t read all the comments so apologies if I am repeating anyone but I thought Cody did well in an otherwise disappointing performance. I was particularly disappointed with Harvey Elliot. He didn’t show anything and he has to be taking these opportunities. I think he’s playing for his place in the squad in the next three games.
I thought Endo was fine and Bradley did well when he came on. It is clear that we need a striker as Darwin and Jota didn’t offer anything.
Curtis was okay. He did much better than a totally anonymous Harvey, Diogo, Darwin and probably also Trent or Mo.
disappointed with losing, hoping we could have kept to being beaten twice for the season. Endo was the only one that stood out by a mile, the rest played like they had partied all week. Really hate losing, especially to Chelski, Shitteh, manure to name a few. Hope the lads get their act together and play like Champions that they are!
Thought Gakpo did well too
He’s proved he can though ,but sadly it’s only at a rate of about one in five games. Consistency has always been his biggest problem.
I’m a bit puzzled by Elliott’s progression as a footballer. Not too long ago he was regarded as a top class young player. What happened to impede his development? Sure, he is not a speedster but he does possess other skills - his ball control and movement in the advanced areas. His physical size is similar to MacAllister. That is a player he could emulate.
I’m not a footballer but it just seems to be a waste for him to be sold.
I’d forgotten all about him !
I am mystified with some of the criticism Jones is getting. He wasn’t bad, he was above average in fact and he certainly wasn’t “dog-walked”. But apart from that, Jones has been in the first team for years. We know he has a very high ceiling and he has certain flaws, like not releasing the ball early enough. None of this is news.
To pass judgment now, based on a sole 90 minutes in a game where most of his teammates were thinking about their summer holidays is ludicrous. The same applies to Elliott as well, and pretty much for all the fringe players who are supposed to be playing for their future.
Who’s basing their opinion on just yeaterday’s performance?
There’s a long list of evidence: good, but not good enough to be a regular starter in the best team in the land. He’s first- or second-choice midfielder off the bench, basically.
It’s just like Darwin: for three years, we’ve been saying he’ll be great once he learns to finish those easy chances. Well, we’ve been saying that Curtis will be great once he learns to release the ball quicker for years now, and we’re still waiting.
Curtis is in a very different place to Darwin. I felt he did fine yesterday and I also think he is key member of our midfield and definitely wouldn’t countenance him being sold. Harvey on the other hand was disappointing and I feel he hasn’t really grabbed this opportunity and he may not get too many more. He sat far too deep and one occassion apart I never saw him on the front foot with a pass or with the ball which is where he’s most effective. I’d love him to be a success and get more minutes next season but he needs to show an awful lot more first. In contrast, Endo looked a solid cog in midfield and hopefully earnt himself more minutes.
I think Curtis did fine. When MACA came on we saw how effective the 2 could be together. The problem in midfield for me was Harvey who took too long to get into the game and Szobozlai didn’t add anything either when coming on except a penalty for Chelsea.
We had long periods of domination in this match which for me was down to Endo, Jones, Tsimikas and Gakpo. With Van Dijk and Quandah doing their thing.
We just didn’t have the drive considering the situation or the familiarity to finish. More importantly to keep up with Chelsea’s on the break. That noone picked up Enzo on Chelsea’s 1st goal is evidence I think of this. They were more aggressive and faster than us wanting it more.
Even so despite this we dominated possession at their park. If the match had mattered to us I think it would have been a very different story.
Flobs speaks sense.
(First time I’ve written those three words together, hopefully not the last!(
Based on the calls to sell the fringe players for failing their audition, a lot of people both inside and outside of TAN.
And I largely agree on Jones, but it doesn’t mean that he should be considered expendable. Every midfielder in the club has some problematic areas, except for Mac Allister and to a lesser degree Gravenberch.
I don’t want Curtis to be sold.
He does a job. Relatively low maintenance. Won the league (didn’t he make his debut in the 19-20 season ?) , Local lad.
Sure he’s got some weaknesses(spending too much time on the ball , slow decision making…but that’s something that can be worked upon).
No.
And you should get off Xitter.
It only seems co-opted to you guys because you only hear it when associated to terrorists in your part of the world perhaps. It’s used about as often with Arabic speakers as “Praise the Lord” is among English speakers.
Just hope the window brings in 3 or 4 starters.
Defo need a top no 9 - Jota and Darwin are longer good enough. I love jota but injuries have taken their toll. Before injury he would get ball and bundle his way through - only seen it once v Everton - just doesnt/cant do it anymore.
Nunez has give us somee great moments but is nowhere near good enough = free header yesterday that was harder to miss target but he did.
New left back needed and maybe RB if TAA goes.
Bradley is young but hasnt completed 90 mins for us yet (i think, if so, only once) so its a jump to ask him to play 60 games next season.
Jones gets a bit of flak but if he released the ball a bit earlier it would benefit everyone. I wouldnt sell but we need someone better than him so that he can become a really good back up option.
I think Elliot will go - i feel for him and its mad that he has only started 2 premier league games but Slot doesnt rate him thats obvious = if he did he would start a lot more than 2 games.
Cheisa will go - Salahs 2 year deal has seen to that with Slot saying Cheisa is his back up and its hard to get mo out of the team.
Gomez will go - just purely down to always being injured - when fit he only got a run of games in December.
Tsmkias will go if/when Kirkez comes in.
Endo - id keep him but will slot?
Kelleher will go
Along with a few fringe players like Doak and maybe Danns

Before injury he would get ball and bundle his way through - only seen it once v Everton - just doesnt/cant do it anymore.
Apart from that time he did it, he can’t do it any more?
Not done it before or since…in fact you dont even know he is on anymore.
He just isnt a threat.
Id love him to regain his form but I just cant see it. Too many long term injuries.
