We have had a rhythm lately like we had when we were playing EL: thursdays and sundays, and we know how taxing that can be for the week-end game. That is something which shouldn’t be forgotten when assessing this game. Our lads clearly got tired as the game went on, and weren’t able to maintain their high level which they displayed during almost the whole first half. Crystal Palace are a good side, as soon as the pressure we applied began to weaken, they emerged and played very well.
We have enjoyed good times in recent years at Selhurst Park, but it’s always a tough place to go there. Irrespective of our performance, these are three very good points.
I know we should be fit and healthy…but just realised we’ve travelled to the South…twice in 3/4days…must take it out of em…not making excuses, but just a thought…
Lol, before I check out this thread I was hoping there would be a poll with only one name.
I don’t think I have ever, from a Liverpool pov, seen such a difference in halves. First half I was thinking I wish we were playing City, while the second half I was thinking I wish this was a friendly.
I still have no idea if Vieira is a genius, or Klopp was having a brain fart, or as someone suggested, was the team drinking excessively during half time?
Mini played a great game on the bench, run onto the field beautifully when subbed on, the rest of the game, meh
Jones shouldn’t be anywhere near the defence, loses the ball way too much in that position, basically gets pressed off the ball. He is excellent at keeping the ball and getting out of those positions, but what’s the point of doing it there? If he gets caught once then it’s a likely goal scoring opportunity, and that happened at least once today (the goal scoring opportunity).
Other than that, just stupid passes, and players that didn’t get into the game at all for the second half. Hoof it up defending, losing the ball, shit attacking passes.
3 lucky points imo, that “penalty” was at the perfect time, we needed that, or else it had a draw written all over that. A 1-2 score line for that last 5-10mins would have been unbearable.
We were very good till AOC’s goal. The first 35 minutes reminded me of our total domination vs. Watford.
Alisson man of the match, absolutely saved us.
AOC - two starts on the right wing and two league goals, not too bad.
Fab and Jones were decent, at one moment /after HT/ Vieira instructed his forwards to block and attack Fabinho at the moment someone passed him the ball and this was a problem we could not solve.
Robbo with two assists, but his man /Olise/ was pain in the ass. TAA with a solid display, great pass for Jota’s penalty.
VvD with a very important goal.
And the negative - Matip was poor for a second consecutive game, his passing was uncharacteristically poor and the level of concentration low. Hendo has a dip in form and at the moment he is miles away from the player he is.
Bobby was once again anonymous. Jota was also invisible for most of the 90 minutes, but at least won the vital penalty.
And it is time to end Taki’s torture. Someone at the club must stand and admit that this is not going to work. Not good enough for LFC, good player, nice lad, but not at the level of Klopp’s Liverpool.
And I will say it once again, the lack of quality in midfield will cost us this season. This game was very similar to BHA and Chelsea. An early lead by 2 goals, decent football for 35-40 minutes, then we slightly lose the initiative and somehow can’t find a way to play our game any more, vice versa we let our rival totally dominate and create situations. And in this case - Hughes - Schlupp - Gallagher were better for practically 2/3 of the match. Yesterday I watched Rice and he looks a dominant midfielder /has improved offensively and still very good defensively/ who is perfect for our style of play and I am sure that Klopp will make him even better.
Well I know that such a transfer is impossible for us, but at least the club must try to find a similar type of player who will gradually replace Hendo in our starting eleven.
I know there is some bickering going on right now, but can we all just put it aside for a few moments and appreciate the seething mass of boiled piss that is the current state of mind of your average Utd fan.
Two dodgy goals for an easy LiVARpool away win. If they’re not frothing at the mouth they’re developing stomach ulcers.
