Post Match: (EPL Liverpool v Burnley 21/8/21 12.30pm)

The “lapses” in the last 15 minutes in this match: I felt that it was when the subs came on, and did not quite get in sync with everyone. Thiago was also hurried into making bad decisions / poor passes that ended up with 2 massive scoring chances for Burnley.

1,Mike Dean and his associates need to go back to ‘Referee School’.

2, Burnley need to rebrand as a WWF entity.

Brilliant to be back at a packed “Fortress Anfield”. We played well overall with just a few things we can/will improve on. Great performances all over the pitch and a shame that only three could be picked for MOTM. I went for Hendo, Tsimi and Harvey in no particular order. But I felt bad leaving out Mo, Joel, Virg and Ali. The queues to get in were something, down from the Main Stand steps, along Annie Road past Hotel TIA and down along Coningsby Street, with the different ones for the S and T turnstiles becoming confused and folk hopping backwards and forwards between the two as we got closer to the front. That said I got into the ground at 12.22 and managed to join in with YNWA and the tribute to lost Reds. Also worth remarking on was how on the whole there was no real moaning.
I’m sure that as the season progresses the process will become slicker. :+1::nerd_face:

So much has been made of Burnley’s physicality but our boys didn’t back down and gave it all right back. We were no shrinking violets.

I watched the match back last night and was even MORE impressed with Matip watching it the second time around. He scrapped and fought and was intense start to finish. He is absolute madman and simply one of the best defenders in the PL and all of world football. I love the guy.

Have you photoshopped those teeth on him…?

People talk about “earning the right to play” by being strong enough to shrug off physical play. We did exactly that yesterday- and then played them off the pitch.

Good performance against rugby team.

Fuck Lukaku. What an animal, he bullied Rob Holding and Pablo Mari.

I’m happy for him he had such a wonderful day out, we’ll see what he can do next Saturday against men that can actually play the position.

I think he’ll have to contend with virg/joe/joel/robbo/trent/hendo/millie…at some time in the game…

The love in for him was always going to go silly. Look at his record against semi decent opposition its average.

There was one moment where Harvey got tackled strongly, but fairly on the edge of our box. In my opinion it was a bit naive from him, but what I liked was that rather than roll around like other players, he got up and tried to make amends.

Additionally, his ball to Salah for the disallowed goal was a joy to see for someone so young. I will not put any undue expectation (on my behalf) on this young lad, however, I get good vibes. It will be interesting to see how he progresses.

How great was it to see Anfield full again? Absolutely fantastic!

As for the game, it was a blessing to meet the current PL thugs © so early in the season, with a full week to prepare for them, and to be fresh physically. That’s a massive thorn out of the foot already. To come out of it with a comprehensive 2-0 is really something.

Elliot was impressive to be fair. At the start of the game, there was a moment when he got completely flattened by one of the big Burnley guys (must have been his Welcome to the PL, or something…). After a few seconds, he stood up again, and continued exactly where he had left off. He has great game intelligence and deserved an assist for the disallowed Salah goal (for me, that was on the line, I thought they wanted to make them bigger? Not big enough to disallow the goal for a millimeter or two apparently…). It was a great piece of inspiration from him, and not the only one, by far not. We have something special here it seems… let’s see how he evolves, this could be spectacular!

Great also to see that despite several key players out, we didn’t lack solidity, sharpness and accuracy. It bodes well for the following games. Next is Chelsea. A proper test, with a full week to prepare for it again. Let’s see how our lads deal with the challenge, surely the biggest one so far.

My three MoM nominations: Matip (superb fighting from him!), Hendo (great to have him back in the side!) and Jota (accuracy, sharpness, crisp passing: he was a thorn in their side all day long).

I think we’ll want to get Fab back in order to have a much better chance against Chelski…

@Quicksand?

I started Burnley on Wednesday
Is Monday too early?

It’s entirely up to you.

You’re the boss… well, until we lose.

No problem QS, it was only because people had already started talking about the next match.

My Analysis: Burnley took part in a wrestling match, we took part in a football match.
We won.
Elliott’s great, the Greek Scouser is on his way to cult status.
