Post match: Everton v Liverpool (EPL 1/12/21 8.15pm

Henderson had an immense game to be sure. Really set the tone for the match with that majestic opening goal.

Going to give MOTM to Salah though. His first goal showed his sumptuous accuracy, from a rather wide angle, he made a curling shot that gave Pickford no chance to save!

But when the game came into doubt after Everton pulled one back 2-1, thanks in large part to TAA bad positioning, it was Salah who salted the game away.

Running the counter attack by himself Salah showed electric pace, touch, and of course finishing to put us up 3-1. And all this came off the back of Everton’s corner, ironically enough.

Why LFC haven’t signed the man to an extension yet is beyond me. He’s clearly our MVP this season. The Egyptian King must STAY at Anfield!

I also want to give top marks to Joel Matip, he played well on the ball all game and didn’t put a foot wrong in helping keep the lid on the Toffees.

4-1 LFC, Jota’s goal was well deserved on a beautiful turn and finish on the near side. He had been annoyed by Everton’s dirty tactics but kept working away all afternoon and that goal was coming sooner or later.

I love our position in the league, only 2 points behind Chelsea, surely they feel us breathing down their necks! This team is coming together nicely and has to be considered top contenders for the PL Crown. I’m proud of this team and I feel it just gets better from here!

Whenever he and VVD have played together this season , its almost always Matip who does the better defensive shift. Also not to forget that Joel gets TAA who isn’t as defensively sound as Robbo who gets paired with VVD

Good win,although they all are!
Apart from the first little bit it was always going to be how much by.
Hendo MOTM for me ,unobtrusive as always but got the job done.
Feel sorry for Rafa,he deserved better than Everton the way they are just now…from the top down.

Why on earth were they booing Virgil?

Because he deliberately collided with Pickford last season, attempting to get him sent off. :joy_cat:

Who the hell threw that extra ball on the pitch when we were attacking? I mean as far as shitehousery goes I’ll take that over a knee-high assault but that was still fucked up.

We need a vote, if Pickford had normal length arms would he have safed Hendersons left footed strike?

Well fucking easy. Good day to enjoy a pissup

Love beating these knuckle dragging, diving idiots. Coleman was doing his level best to get sent off. Literally punching the ball. We are blowing teams away and it is wonderful

Who are you comparing Jota to? Jota had only 2 shots at goal for the whole match so I don’t see how that could be the case.

And his goal was probably the best out of 4 top drawer goals for us. I would almost say the best goal of the season so far, and there’ve been plenty. He was also easily our best forward today. Had him behind only Henderson. Not as wasteful in possession as the other two.

Wonderful stuff.

4 goals and all left-footers.

Merry Christmas Everton!

Some gems from the Everton forums

Imagine going down 4-1 and then asking your supporters to watch Cenk Tosun trudge through mud.

No one can say the effort wasn’t there from anyone that’s maybe the most worrying part

Piss off, we lost to Watford just as badly. Y’all did fuckall.

Hate the club, chase that wanker Kenwright out, get rid of Benitez and half those gobshite players.

Everything about our club stinks I hate writing posts like this I love Everton football club but there just are no positives just goes from bad to fuckin worse

Very satisfying. 8 draws in the last 9 at Goodison, plus the injuries last season, had me a bit nervous before kick off. We are much the better side, but I still half expected some adversity.

Well done you red men. Bossed it from start to finish.

Everton got one back, and at the time I was frustrated, as it made it look close when we were battering them. Still, it looks like that’s how we’ve set our stall out this season, and as we score so many, and create so much, it stands to reason we might be slightly more open than some would like. But it all appears to be part of the plan, and what a ride this is. We are the best team to watch in the Prem.

The goals were very good indeed. Henderson, measured, with great skill to keep it down and bend it in off the left foot. Mo, precise chipped into the far corner. And a great finish into the only part of the goal he could score in for his second, off balance, but placed to perfection. Jota very nice. Gathered it in from behind him, touch, looks up, rifled shot high into the net from a tight angle.

Everton were still snide, rough, diving, crowding the ref, putting multiple balls in play, not giving it back properly after restart, and so on. But we were strong ourselves and stood strong. Then at that point the better side got what it deserved.

It is galling that we are competing for the title with two artificially inflated teams. We should be out of sight in a fair contest. Be that as it may, it’s not something Klopp and the team can dwell on, and instead they have to knuckle down and fight, which is exactly what is happening.

As for Rafa, I like him. Good man, did a very good job for us. He should have kicked on and maybe even won the Prem with us, but it was his misfortune to coincide with G&H. Since then he hasn’t quite landed on his feet and has had a sequence of jobs and traveled. His stint at Everton is after the purse strings are tightened. Without spending he will do as well as his predecessors, who did spend, if he is allowed to continue. At present they are dropping down as they have had some injuries, but they should persist with him. If they don’t, he’s well out of it anyway.

Well deserved 3 points, totally outplayed those blue cunts for most of the game.

As much as I loved Rafa when he was our manager, i just watched his after match press conference and he’s clutching at straws and talking shit, saying “we lost because of mistakes against a top side,we have seen how much money Liverpool have been spending and how successful they’ve been over the years”.

Forgive me if I’m talking shite but haven’t Everton spent more than us over the last 4 or 5 years??

There’s no way he doesn’t know the financial backgrounds of both teams over the past few years.

It was a sarcastic comment in response to the ‘Salah didn’t have a good game’ line. Jota’s (high angle) shot was absolutely stunning, and as you note, one of only two times he shot.

Not much else to be said that hasn’t already been said in this thread. Fantastic all over the pitch start to finish, the boys were as focused as I’ve ever seen them. Pretty clear they all wanted this one badly.

Hendo likely is my MOTM. In a side of outstanding players tonight he may have been the absolute best of the lot. Emotional leader, dialed in from the off, focused, ice water in his veins. The look of an assassin he had on his face in the tunnel prematch actually gave ME the chills! 😵‍💫

Thiago and Fab absolute savage. Grit, physicality in midfield. Loved seeing Thiago come out for the second half in ‘spirited’ discussion with Allan. Also loved Sadio leave a little something on Pickford in the second half. Naughty but clean.

Mo. King Mo. Exquisite and lethal. Benevolent and ruthless. I adore this man. Blank cheque.

Richarlison looks a broken man. I thought in context of his usual asshole self, he was fairly anonymous and quiet tonight. Also, class fans Everton have. School age boys making the “jerking off” hand motions to Robbo and screaming obscenities with “piss off” hand gestures at Trent while setting up for corners. Class.

Our boys are simply on another level. It’s almost cliche to say, but fitting, on this night none of the brilliant individual moments shine without the entire team doing all their jobs. This was the definition of team win. The boys who will not show up in the box score were equally as important and critical as those that did. Literally every player 1-11 contributed.

Regardless how much we despise recent Everton’s injuring our players and their shit housery, I still have to applaud the class from their organisation on honouring not just Cliff Marshall, the first black player played for Everton 1st team, at the same time, they also honoured Ray Kennedy before the start of the match…

…and at 12th minute, we all honoured Ava White.

For the match, could have ran away with the scoreline by 10th minute. Somehow, I am happy that our boys won by 4 goals against 1, and did not embarrassed Rafa. (As if 1-4 is not bad enough for Rafa).

My 3 picks:

  1. Hendo
  2. Mo
  3. Diogo

Edit: Also, one of the rare matches that I really cheer for each goal that went in because there were no question of being offside.
