I was more than happy with that performance. We were really good. The passing was slick and precise and we didn’t allow Everton any time on the ball at all. Much better than the shite served up against Villa. I’ve read a few comments about the defence but I thought we were much more secure in this game. We were at least 10 yards further back and Everton never got in behind us once. They had an obvious superiority in the air once VVD went off and used it to full advantage. We have to accept that without Alisson and VVD we are going to concede goals and we are just going to have to take more of the chances we get.
It would have been fitting if Henderson had scored the winner because he was fantastic today. The whole midfield was good. Thiago started slowly but his passing in the second half was mesmeric. Fabinho snapping into tackles. All is well again.
I can’t be arsed going over the decisions. The offside rule was changed (again) and both Mane for the goal and Virgil for the penalty would have been onside under last season’s rule. I think football is disappearing up its own arsehole with all these rule changes. They do nothing to add to the entertainment value. It doesn’t make the game any fairer. It just pisses people off and sucks all the joy out of watching football.
Unfortunately, they will scrutinise the frames and choose the one frame where things go in their favour (they’ll choose the latest frame they can from the pass). They’ll also choose the lowest plausable point for the armpit
As for the Prickford on VvD, they’ll offer a little slap on their wrist, and dump the VAR ref for one game, and then continue as before. Same old, same old.
Have seen a good point made elsewhere…is the same level of microscopic scrutiny applied to making sure the lines are drawn on the ‘offside’ player after the ball is played??
Not sure I have ever seen it come up, tbh.
If they’re gonna rely on the width of the fuzz on a bee’s anus, surely they need to be just as certain the ball has left Thiago’s boot??
Laying down a marker for the future. We want to know why Pickford wasn’t sent off and what part of Mane’s body was deemed offside, together with which frame was chosen and why. Puts a bit more pressure on the officials next time a similar decision is reviewed. Won’t change the outcome in this game but might change the outcome in another. Worth a try.
