Post Match: Everton v Liverpool (EPL 17/10/2020 12.30pm)

Yes, I shiuld have said considered rather than check. The US coverage was trying to clarity on what was the discussion around checking for offside, and they were told it was part of deciding whether they could give a pen. What it seems is both Oliver and the VAR ref got caught up in that and ultimately forgot that it was precipated by an assault.

But there is also the issue that I have raged about numerous times, referee blind spots. There are two areas in particular that refs seem blind to punishing for violent conduct or serious foul play, and that is aerial challenges and keepers. The reality is that keepers can get away with this sort of wild dangerous lunge more often than they get punished for it, as far too often the decision around the situation is focused on pen vs no pen only.

Anyone still doubt the corruption against LFC in certain quarters? They got away with it last season because we were that fucking good we didn’t give them the chance. They tried all the same - Villa away, Man U home and away - but we were too good for it to make a difference.
That today was as corrupt as it gets. Simple as that.

As for Everton, some things never change. Dirty snide shithouses. And to think some of our own fans have been saying it’s good to see them doing well. A ‘breath of fresh air’ no less.
I know it’s frowned upon on here but I don’t give a fuck. I hope that fucking prick goalie and Brazilian cunt get their fucking legs shattered next game the pair of fucking scum cunts.

There is no arm pit rule. It is short hand that was used to explain one specific ruling, but has now unhelpfully found its way into the lexicon. The reality is that as of this season you can use your upper arm to control the ball. That changes where the lines for offside will be drawn on a lot of cases.

The footage I have seen of this incident is terrible, just far too zoomed out to see much of anything with clarity. But Ive also seen numerous cases where I see the lines and can make no sense of how they were drawn. That might well be the case here, but my assumption seeing as it looks like the line was drawn on Sadio’s arm, is that it was done so because of his change in the handball ruling for this season.

From the Prem website:

The boundary between the shoulder and the arm is now defined by “the bottom of the armpit”.

To penalise a player for handball the match officials must have clear evidence that the ball has struck the player’s arm below the bottom of the armpit and in the red zone indicated below.

To me, that graphic looks wrong. Surely the lower armpit is a bit higher up? No doubt they’re using these graphics to train the refs for offside if the arm is the closest to goal.

Totally ripped off in at least 3 ways.

1 - Prickford non sending off.
2 - Mane offsides? Bullshit.
2 - missing at least 2 1/2 minutes injury time.

52.44 - 55:15 (whistle to whistle) Robertson injury. +2 1/2 mins.
4 subs, 30 secs a sub, so +2 mins.
2 goals, 30 seconds each. So +1 mins.
James faking devastating injury, 84:15 - 85, let’s call it +30 secs.
Sending off / injury - 87:40 - 90 , with twat head taking his time getting off the field. +2mins.
1 var? Or 2? +1m for Mane var check.

9 mins stoppage time instead of 6 1/2 played.

Other than that we played extremely well, hopefully VVD is fine.

Anyone who says it’s good to see Everton doing well or they’re a ‘breath of fresh air’, obviously doesn’t live in the Merseyside area, amongst their horrible, vile, scum fans. If they did, they wouldn’t come out with such bollocks.

Sorry @Arminius, I’m not having a go at you. VAR is just a joke.

And I’m just so frustrated at the result, and the inept officiating we are being subjected to. The ref let the blueshite get away with murder all over the park.

If oliver is the best referee in the PL, then god help us; what does that say about the rest.

Don’t forget the useless prick, David Coote, on VAR.

I’m finding it difficult to calm down after that game, I’m so fucking angry. I’m more upset about the injuries to our players than the result.
I’ll just have to drink heavily tonight or I won’t get to sleep.

Nice article from Jonathan Wilson on Prickford:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/oct/17/evertons-jordan-pickford-showcases-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly

Here’s a highlight:

It was a moment of grotesque recklessness that endangered the opponent, a clear instance of serious foul play and thus a red card, even if an offside call spared Everton a penalty. Yet mystifyingly, VAR checked only the offside and did not look at the challenge. Van Dijk’s upper arm, it turned out, was in advance of the last defender. Like Sadio Mané before he crossed late on for what appeared a winner from Jordan Henderson, it was deemed that a part of the body that last season would not have been considered for an offside had strayed by a matter of millimetres.

This perhaps is the biggest issue with VAR: it pedantically adjudicates on issues all but imperceptible to the human eye and yet ignores offences as blatant as Pickford’s. It’s like a parking attendant dishing out a ticket for staying two minutes too long or being an inch outside the space while ignoring the thief putting a crowbar through the windscreen.

And the part where he is just trolling:

Are his arms oddly shaped? Is it something to do with his comparative lack of height? Is it a technical issue to do with weight distribution? Whatever the reason, it’s an idiosyncratic flaw that has become increasingly common.

Before the match I would have said a draw have been a reasonable result but I just feel robbed now: fiddled out of a victory and two of our best players injured.

Pickford should have been sent off. This is basic stuff. I saw him go in two footed on Mané in the second half but fortunately Sadio hopped out of the way.

It also looks like elbows are this year’s armpits for VAR…

Lost for words on that given that a very similar situation resulted in a red card in the very same game.

That brings into doubt VvD’s decision as well I think. I’d need to see it again. Those decisions were so blatantly bad.

I still feel conned. You’d hope the PL, Referee Association whatever would look at Coote’s performance today but I’m not holding my breath.

Today’s game was extremely costly I feel. Points dropped, injuries, Mane yellow etc.

You mean you haven’t started already? The Mem and I are 6 hours ahead of you and we are still livid at the injuries and the result.

Yeah, it’s absurd. The phrase “bottom of the armpit” means absolutely nothing. There is no one outside of the idiots in the room who wrote that rule who would understand what that means, so they have clarified it as being level with the bottom of the standard shirt sleeve. It is a modification to the handball rule that absolutely no one asked for and does nothing to help make these decisions feel fairer.

Great. Even if nothing would happen to that match retrospectively, atleast it’ll make them think why they gave those decisions, because they failed to apply their brains during the game.

If that’s the case, then we should get Nike to make sleeveless tops like the Cameroonian tops of old.

Or Klopp to get his scissors out
