yeh! he fucked us for real…actually feels a bit personnel.
The only other time I’ve felt this way after a game was against spurs in 2018 when they were handed a second crap penalty 5 minutes into 4 minutes of injury time after Mo had dribbled through their side to score a late impossible goal to restore our lead after the first crap penalty they were given.
it was the first time i wondered what the point of caring about sports was, if after all the work and all the trying, the result was going to be determined by refereeing incompetence.
I’ll do some more drinking and be back to support our lads sooner than later as they were fantastic today. I just hope they bounce back and get their focus back quicker than me.
Wake up, still angry, i dont think its going away anytime soon. Damn.
I’m furious…
VVD out for the rest of the season, Thiago cynically fouled and out, the winning goal disallowed…
Having said all of that…
Out of adversity comes opportunity.
Matip is back where he needs to be…
Gomez has the opportunity to get his shit together and prove he’s capable of staying focused for 90 minutes.
The money we spent during the transfer window is going to get tested, and the squad is going to get the chance to step up and do what is expected.
It’s not going to be easy, but adversity will separate winners from losers.
For now, I trust in the ststem.
YNWA
many of the PL referees, if not all should be given a serious course in referring. It’s beyond a farce on how they get away with the very poor standard/level, they show week in and week out. I think the referee completely forgot (actually to dumb) on how/when to produce a yellow or red card
Conspiracy theory is that TV money/bosses want drama in matches, and so advise them on decisions they need to make during matches.
Well and truly robbed/cheated out of a fair game and a win.
We’ll have VVD back by Christmas I hope. Just surfacing after a night of attempted pain nullification, never works.
Salah scored his 100th for us, Thiago impressive in his first start, much needed return of our captain, and an overall dominant performance from our boy which was worthy winning the game. Sad state of the game that despite so many positives to discuss about, we end up having to debate about the refereeing rather than the game itself.
Agreed that those two challenges, persistent fouling by the Everton players, play acting by Richarlison and James, and waving of the imaginary card by the latter had nothing positive about it. But at least it should have resulted in a debate about those actions. Rather than those situations, we are forced to debate about the refereeing in those situations. Post match analysis now seems to be drifting away from analysis of the match itself.
I think it’s time the broadcasters are allowed to interview the ref after he has done his match report. Also time we all get to know what VAR room is seeing, thinking and how they came to a particular decision. All aired live, just like in cricket.
For those who can get it, easy if are from India Professional football is slowly becoming like a neighborhood cricket match where 2 guys from the batting team get to do the umpiring. Decisions expectedly go the batting sides way and the bowling team cannot argue because “Umpires decision is the final decision”.
I’m still so fucking angry
Usually MOTM is a player who decided the match.
For me Coote was man of the match.
We were robbed.
Errrrrrr we won’t if ACL.
The offside rule is just daft and needs to be looked at again. Someone’s elbow or toe being milimeters past the defender shouldn’t be generating an unfair advantage. The legislation needs to change to prevent this kind of farce.
It’s a question of why the technology was brought in. Surely we implemented VAR to correct serious referee errors. It’s been used to argue the toss about millimetres.
Just who is responsible for the incompetence of these numpties Coote and Oliver…?
The worrying thing is that Oliver is probably the best referee in the league.
I am not really understanding the criticism of Oliver. Take the Pickford incident. What if he was unsighted, then it is down to the linesman and VAR. Oliver did not have nearly as good a view as they both did or indeed as we did.
He was badly let down by VAR on two crucial occasions…
The offside decision is what it is. But the decision to not send off Pickford for practically assassinating VVD is inexcusable. Offside or not offside, that is the one that goes beyond anything else and Pickford should have been straight sent off for that bullshit.
I honestly think Hendo was immense today. By far one of the best players on the pitch. I often defend Mo for his performances, but he really was shockingly awful most of the game, till he scored that goal. I wish we had executed alot of those shots better and seriously Gomez he was ok, but good lord that Calvert Lewin header. He left Robbo to fend for himself against the physically bigger more imposing striker who is on hot red form. Also Matip was pretty good.
Otherwise, the loss of Virg is something i dont know if we can overcome… it gives a serious sense of worry for the rest of the season. If it wasnt enough our defence hasnt been on form so far this season losing Virg and Alisson like this (albeit Jurgen has said Alisson’s recovery is progressing well so hopefully he comes back) is a serious kick in the teeth. I dont doubt Matips quality, but his injury record is concerning and Gomez has been…
I do like Thiago and Mane, both quality players who can change games for us. But unless Firmino starts seriously chipping in up front … I would say bench him or send him to the midfield and give Jota a run out. At least we can then spare Fabinho for the Centre back role.
Something has to be done about the poor standard of refereeing… Maybe we should outsource this element of the game… recruit the best in Europe on an individual basis if needs be… offer high paying seasonal contracts to them… the old adage of pay the right money to get the right staff…!
The premier league is a multi billion pound business being disrupted and spoilt by self-important numpties too timid to act or weild the sword against weekly incompetence against the referees and their masters… We need someone like John Henry (or Linda), to take this fight to them…!
Me neither. He’s a very good ref and it wasn’t his fault that Mane was given offside. For the VVD incident, when it first happened I wasn’t screaming for a red card. I thought it was a foul but nothing more than that. It was only when I saw the replay that I could see how bad it was. This is where VAR should have come in, but it didn’t. Had Oliver had the opportunity to review it I’m certain he’d have sent Pickford off.
Yes Oliver might have been let down by Coote in the VAR studio… but as these two have history of getting it badly wrong (see Chelsea V Spurs, Feb 2020), Oliver should be extra vigilante when Coote is holding the joystick… he should be bombarding him for advice and assurance whenever there is a questionable decision…!
Hear hear.
