Post match: Fenerbache v Liverpool (UCL 4/11/26 5.45pm)

That was a bit meh. At times slick and at other times sick.

What a struggle against such an average side.

If Alisson continues being a liability with the ball, we might as well play Mamardashvili, who at this point is probably a better shot stopper.

Araujo played against Lask and Villarreal.

We lost a match. One of the least important of the season. No need to panic.

What’s important is to bounce back at the weekend.

Lost to a team that my great grandfather would recognise!
Ok the conditions were awful, the pitch cutting up as if elephants were having a party but, but …
It required some aggression and we only managed that for about 15 minutes at the start of the second half.
I think this match exposed us for the worst we can be. Lacking in so many basic attributes like concentration, aggression, commitment and respect. By respect I mean we haven’t a playmaker all our players slow the game down not respecting the tempo or anything else like passing to a player in a better position …
Ok we can score however after scoring we fall to pieces.
Seems to me Iraola is becoming desperate those subs seemed knee jerk nonsense to me like VVD staying up top exposing the defence. It shows Iraola thought winning this game was very important to take pressure off us from now on unfortunately it was just all wrong.

I’m just really disappointed by that performance and reaction. It just looks as if all the efforts made so far were chucked in the garbage :wastebasket:.

Can’t be arsed with this new CL format.

Too many games. Dumb the way you play some teams at home and others away. Now they veto some games that get drawn because the fixture has happened too often recently. So many dead rubbers at the end and so little real jeopardy throughout.

And topping the league gave us a terrible draw one year but Arsenal a cake walk to the final another.

A loss away in Turkey but in the grand scheme it’ll probably mean very little in terms of qualification and could transpire we get an easier opponent next because of it.

Still finding our way. Not the end of the world but really want to see more of what we saw in that first half against Arsenal and less of the uncertain and disjointed football we get a dose of in most games.

Yet a match Iraola seemed to want to win. I don’t think this performance can be brushed under the carpet. We showed too many weaknesses!

Not too worried. the only thing that bugged me was it reminded me of how much of a soft touch we were last season.

Not sure why but I was very frustrated watching today’s match (I think having Greenwood on the other side also did my head in):

  1. Our players were easily pushed off while in possession.
  2. Although we had lots of possession %, we were late to the 2nd balls often.
  3. Like others have said, the lack of concentration was alarming.

Not too bothered about the game itself but never great to lose of course.

Nice to see Nyoni doing well and another Isak goal.

Not really a criticism of him specifically but genuinely dont see how Szoboslai fits in here anymore. Controversial but id´probably move him and Grav on if I could and reinvest.

I was not happy about the team AI put out in the first half as it was disjointed and it was an accident waiting to happen after that even when he brought on better players things didn’t improve, Slot made the same mistake against Gala last year.. at some point against certain teams we have to put out a strong team away from home both in the league and in the CL for at least 60 min.
He rested Izak twice now he barely played 30 minutes each game.
AI has to be careful from now on otherwise the season might unravel pretty quickly sorry about this I was not happy with the back line they were a shambles and nervous as hell. End of rant.

I agree about Dom even taking corners he was not good and I started to imagine Trent taking corners and free kicks .

Quite disappointed today, started so well in possession, really quietened the crowd and got the deserved goal.

After the goal, we stopped doing what was working, playing to feet and getting Trey on the ball, with Virg either lumping it or playing a poor pass into Macca, which was the cartalyst to their freekick and 1st goal.

What is it with Virg, he used to be excellent with the long switch to Mo, we never see it now he just goes long and straight?

Dom in the 10 doesn’t work, his movement isn’t near the level of top class
10’s and he is better with the play in front if him. Also, I think he works so hard on that knuckle ball that he has forgot how to bend a ball or caress a ball into a players path.

We had BB as our 9, yet I never saw one ball in behind or in the channel for him to run onto from our midfielders, his speed is his asset, lets work on a plan to use it, otherwise he was non existant.

I feel our play is crying out for fullbacks that can delivery a cross or that are better in final 3rd.

Finally I mentioned, in game, about Rio and Munoz, I love their attitude for getting at their man, but they have to mix it up more, would love to see them use a give and go more, as happened with our 2nd goal. Although for that to happen we need an option to feet inside.

Me too how did that prick get on the pitch. Even mr blobby Lukak was faster than our FBs.

We are having lots of corners, but we seem to have no movement in regards to attacking the ball, and what is it with outswingers, far harder to get good contact on an outswinger to score, whereas with inswingers you are just helping it on, if the power is already in the cross.

We had better beat Lens at Anfield as they are the weakest link Como put 9 goals past them tonight and it could have been more.

Yes it was the lack of aggression and fight as at times they were dispossessed
Very easily at times.

Having just watched the second half it seems the time has come for the uncomfortable talk on Allison.

It will unravel pretty quickly if Isak gets injured since we have no other strikers

This isn’t a dig at Rio he has the world at his feet but jeez has no end product. He did exactly all the things Cody gets slated for without any end product.
