I like the way Bobby played Russian rulelette with their last defender?
They put everything into it at the start of the 2nd half and i was fearing the worst.
We just couldn’t get out… they pressed us high, closed us down quickly, hussled and harried.
That must be how opposition supporters feel when they play us…got to admit folks, i like it much better when it’s us dishing it out
Then the subs came on and as everyone else has said… that was that.
They’d punched themselves out and the 1st goal done them in
Ref played well too
Thanks @Nikola
they gave us a match, they are really hard to beat but at the end they got tired and after the 80th min you could see they were out of steam. dumfries is very very good athletic and good footballer. overall good subs and job well done
Great result, the subs were a master stroke,as someone else said, who would have dragged Fab?
Virgil and Konate, had a great night out,Robbo was not too shabby either.
I only saw it because I searched out Chamberlain’s name on twitter
Why?
Why did I look for Chamberlain’s name?
Because someone suggested he was injured and I wanted to see if anyone decent had tweeted about him.
Tough game, nothing really between the 2 sides for the majority but I’m sure their fans were equally as frustrated not being able to create as much except hitting the bar.
Virgil and Konate were sublime.
Front 3 first half were so disappointing, I know Mane’s just won the Afcon but overall it’s looking like back to back average seasons…it’s time for Diaz.
The one off the crossbar was pretty damn close. That was the toughest match against a press that I can remember for a while, Inter had us off balance, without a doubt. A 1-0 was nice, a 2-0 coming out of that is absolutely superb.
I predicted 2-0 for us and luckily we did it. Inter played as expected - some quality, but also sticking their foot in, fouling, and flopping whenever we went near them. We were below our best, but then we added some zip with the subs.
Shoutout to the central defenders. That gave us the platform to win the game.
Oh, and what a bench we have now… strength in depth in attack, oooh la la.
That is why Sean Dyche doesn’t want five subs. If teams like his can hang in there, they might get lucky and keep it tight for a famous draw. But if teams like ours can shuffle the pack up front, sooner or later the goals are going to flow. Ginger bollocks.
Hope it’s not too serious for Jota.
I wouldn’t say very lucky.
On balance, I thought we looked the stronger side in the first half, but not by much, neither side were that threatening. The sparring period of the match.
However, Inter came out hard in the 2nd half, and had a stretch of 20-25 minutes where they clearly had the upper hand, though did not convert that into much direct threat. Great display by the central defensive partnership to just keep Inter at arm’s length. That was the period where it felt like one mistake was going to cost the match, but we didn’t make that mistake. But it has been a while since I have heard a commentator saying something like ‘Liverpool is really struggling to get out of their end’ - we really were. Their press was damned good, though even without the benefit of hindsight it did not seem they were going to be able to sustain it.
Then we started punching back, and Inter did not have much left in their legs to answer. At that point, it was a matter of whether or not we could get the goal or not. Once we did, it was just a matter of whether we could get more and bury Inter a little deeper (or completely). They were never back in it.
So, very lucky? No. We probably carried the play for at least 55 minutes, with perhaps 10 being really balanced. But there were two other outcomes in the possibility tree for that match, a 1-0 win for Inter, and a 0-0. Good tough away performance to force the outcome down the pathway we wanted.
Great result but our play in the last 3rd before the subs was way off, our 3 starting forwards just kept having bad touch after bad touch, coughing up the ball to the opposition when in good positions.
Our 2 CB’s were outstanding and I gave my MOTM to Konate as he played to a higher level than I have seen from him.
The Subs changed the momentum of the game with more energy and we then controlled the game and for me Diaz is in front of Sadio on today’s showing, his touch receiving the ball has been exemplary in the 2 games he has played and helps us keep possession better and getting the team higher up the pitch.
But we all would have taken 2-0 at the beginning of the game and fair dues to Inter they made it difficult for us and stopped our fullbacks playing,
Clearly not us lot !
Simone Inzaghi said Liverpool have a habit of giving teams false hope before punishing them.
He is 100% right. Seen so many ‘bad’ performances over the last few years but we still managed to win the games.
The whinging during the matches have been embarrassing lately.
Picking out players and always expecting us to perform and score before the 20 minutes mark. If not some people in here are starting to shit their pants.
Similar on the ref:
Think he did more than ok. No problem if he is in charge for our remaining CL games. He was at least 2 levels better to what were are used in the PL.
Portugese, Spanish and Italian champions all beaten in their home stadiums. If we get through to the next round, Dutch, German, French and English ready to be taken.
Hope Diogoal isn’t out for too long. Lad is in the form of his life!
Too bad for Dyche the IFAB changed the rules and from next season it’s 5 subs hahah! It’ll also help us retain players as we can give them more game time and keep the squad fresh as well!
There was a lot not to like about the first half and the second half was brutal until Klopp’s subs.
So to come out with a two goal lead is a fantastic result, albeit slightly undeserved. It’s good to see that we are starting to get into the habit of winning no matter how average we play on the day.
