Yes I used to laugh at him about his tantrums when Manure were losing against us but that’s quite a few times now when he praises Liverpool thinking like you about him being a closet fan.

Another one I didn’t understand was the Jacquet yellow card. Jacquet didn’t move and the opposition player clattered onto him very violently.
The ref was shit the whole game and a real homer. I can not understand how a ref like that can make it to the top of the game. Something isn’t right!

One thing I noticed in this one was Jacquet almost serving as an attack dog for the defense - I saw him pressing high and breaking up attacks on both sides - even forcing Van Dijk to move into a RCB position on a couple counters where Jacquet was busy pressing high on the left.
I don’t know if I ever really recall that happening. Ibou and Matip would press high sometimes (Matip would have a marauding dribble here and there), but they almost always stayed in the right side.
With Van Dijk’s legs aging, he wants to stay a couple extra steps back to give him a chance against some of these pacey attackers. Jacquet is throwing himself into things.
And Araujo helped considerably as well, tracking back beautifully to break things up.

Is it me or the right side seems a bit susceptible to breaks. Wirtz could possibly look at being a bit more central.
It’s average positions. A nice little tool to get a certain idea, but not to read too much into it for certain game moments or periods. You rarely get something perfectly aligned and no “holes”.
Especially since Iraola likes asymmetrical shapes and players occupying as many lines as possible. We saw that at Bournemouth, how he played with the positions of his full backs, midfielders and forwards.
Smith wouldn’t be positioned as Truffert was, Tavernier (or another winger) wouldn’t be positioned as Kroupi (who is basically a second striker in his current evolution) was, etc.

I’m just concerned that Dom might well end up getting overloaded because the feeling is that mac needs more support around him.
It’s a shape we might see more of, I think.
Players on the left or central left being more close together (we have many players who ideally prefer that side or that inside channel). It doesn’t suddenly mean that players on the right are isolated. Like I said, this is average positions over the whole match.
We don’t need this picture to see that in our build up phase, Araujo tucked in more as a 3rd CB, which allowed Kerkez to push more down his side.
It will depend more on what we do, both as a group and individuals. Szobo still needs to convince he can be a double pivot midfielder, but of course as we see, he’s not ‘tied’ to his position.
