IMO Iraola should have given Nyoni more minutes in this match, since we had an okay-ish lead early in the match, and at some point Macca was booked.
The condition to test him here was safer than against Forest.

Absolutely. Jacquet - despite the almost second yellow - played much better with his positioning and we looked so much more solid with Araujo back there too.

I’m not as high on the performance as most here.
Too many avoidable mistakes and there were occasions where we lost the ball in awful places and got bypassed too easily. A better team than Ipswich would have taken advantage. Jacquet was also lucky to stay on the pitch, although he was very good in general.
That’s not to say that it wasn’t a good performance and an improvement to what we’ve seen so far, but this game was just us scratching the surface. Iraola is aiming for much higher levels.
Gakpo and Isak will rightfully take most of the plaudits, but the pleasant surprise was the backline who were excellent. Van Dijk especially looked like he was back in his prime.

Oh come on mate… we lose credibility if we start complaining about decisions that were clearly correct. He was visibly offside. Stick to the contentious decisions.
Plus refs don’t make decisions on offside anyway…

People keep using the “creative” role as an excuse. The problem is he hasn’t even been creative, he’s looking for ANY pass, always the easy option. I do hope he gets better, his heart is in the right place but he needs to get stronger.

Expecting more good things from Isaak and Gakpo after last night.
Football is very much a confidence driven sport, and those 2 must right up there in confidence levels.

Exactly, why bother posting just constant criticism towards the players? I think its completely different to say that player x was not at his best today, or even questioning if we need to consider replacing someone in the future but the over exaggerations how shit someone is and sometimes just vile language towards players is imo stupid and wrong. I understand that in social media theres bots and troll accounts that are a big part of the criticism but here its just very tiresome to witness.

People like absolute things — good or bad, black or white. I hate both sides exaggerating it when we win or lose. All players have their pros and cons, it’s fine to discuss that, but I really hate the binary mindset.

Hi. A couple of very noticable things last night, much quicker passing especially forwards, Gakpo and Mac looking like their old selves and isak looking like the fella from newcastle we bought. Araujo was fantastic and my man of the match, we have not had a rb defend like that for a very long time.

I was thinking why risk him for 10 minutes on the pitch. Ipswich were becoming very aggressive and I didn’t feel Nyoni was necessary. Even so I think he showed again that he’s real quality in those 10 minutes and should get many more minutes during the season.

VVD was much better more discipline and an actual leader as if someone had had a word with him. That authority really does help with the whole set up and particularly for his partner.

Second half was difficult to watch after the 1st half however the effort was great.
Under Iraola, Gakpo has been trying to variate his game and it unlocked something in him…No more the oft used cut in and shoot anymore!

What was our formation?
Much of the time it looked to me like Munoz right back 3 CBs Szoboszlai everywhere. Gakpo all over the front line.
Just interested so those average positions might be of use @Zoran but probably not of much use where Szoboszlai is concerned.
I’m not sure whether the link will work, but I was just watching the pass for the second goal. The link up between Gakpo and Isak was perfect.
