Yep always said that I would have preferred a CB, Guehi over Isak.
A I lot of those 0-1 concessions happened befor we got into the match properly. I do agree some of them happened after the opponents weathered our initial attacking surge but not all. Right now we don’t have the mentality to consistently overhaul deficits. And in fact we should be looking hard at why we concede the first goal so often.
Yes absolutely unfathomable how Ibou ends up where he is in complet no mans land.
However if Ibou does what you seem to be inferring there’s another option just as dangerous. Imo Ibou is ok in position until he deserts it.
Have a look again.
Even so if Grav had been putting more pressure on he might have managed the interception. Then again the ball might have gone to the other player in which case Ibou’s reactions might have been even worst.
As I said imo Ibou was correct up till a point no way would you want him much further out wide at the start of the sequence yet he doesn’t go in the correct direction. It’s not a situation where you want him on tight man to man as there’s other options which are not covered.
Yep spot on with Ibou and looking at those last 3 photos, I also have issues with Virg’s positioning he is the wrong side of his man and should be across and closer to Ibou, with Kerkez tucking in, the distance between our defenders is too big.
Endo would be an option as CB in a team that is compact and that isn’t us.
But then again he can’t be any worse.
Definite a mental/concentration/confidence issue with Ibou as he was having a good game until the brain fart, then he just hides and falls to pieces.
Grav also has to cover the pass to Gnonto, but when it comes to defending you have to mark the biggest threat, however, that’s where I agree with Limie, Ibou has to come across and cover that space with the whole back 4 shuffling across, which you mentioned.
Virg is definitely the wrong side of his man!
Konate has been so obviously bad that Van Dijk’s struggling is often overlooked.
Honestly I think it’s a defensive not what not to do.
I reckon all our players are out of position. Which probably is due to Ibou not moving in the correct direction in the first place.
Just another opposition runner not being picked up.
We’ve seen this so much now we’re getting too used to it.
Questions about Van Dijk position are trivial and not related to anything that happened to allow the goal to be scored though. Ibou is not put in a position where he’s having to make difficult situations about multiple threats. He just sees his man pulling into an area where he fucked up just a couple of minutes before and emotionally and physically removes himself from the situation to prevent him making the same fuck up again. Whether Van Dijk is 1 yard further across doesnt change that
But it highlights issues with our defence, we all need to be in the right position and for me that is also lazy from Virg.
Does it make any difference to the goal being scored, then no, but it highlights that as a team we aren’t either fully concentrated or coached well.
yep.
we went through this yesterday and i fingered Curtis for it, but these stills show its all on Ibou.
the only thing ill say is when he does move accross (or not move out in the first place) curtis should already be in between him and Virgil.
i still think Jones has it a bit wrong there…
having said all that, theres more than one way to play footy, so maybe Slots instructions involve a midfeilder screening between fullback and Centre back instead of the centre back moving across?(very unlikely)…dunno…but yeah, its quite damning.
not sure id agree with @Flobs on the Gravenberch positioning.
Paul Machin from Redmen TV is going to be so jealous.
Poor Curtis….
He’s got people fighting over who gets to finger him. Some people get all the luck I guess
Wait…
That was you in the IG video I posted earlier in the jokes thread? ![]()
Just listened to the match on BBC 5 Live match replay. I have forgotten how much of a knob Chris Waddle is. Dickhead.
