We only have 4 games between now and the end of the year. I’m at a point with Konate where I’d tell him he’s done and he needs to find another club in January.
I’m going to assume the club have at least 1 CB lined up for January, maybe another on loan or as a stop-gap (unlikely I know). If Joe breaks again it’s just bad luck and we have to take it on the chin but that lumbering idiot should be finished here. It’s time a message was sent out to some of the other under-performers.

Who would you have played in place of Konate in the last 5 matches?
I think the comments about Slot having needed to have treated the Ibou situation with kid gloves with an only partially fit Gomez his only alternative is a fair one, but Ibou is now playing like a broken man. His reaction to both the second and third goals were those of a defender scared to fuck up (again). You dont play your way out of situations like that.
This is the situation their second goal came from. There is no concern at all with the numbers or the shape.
A couple of passes later you see Ibou has already started backing off the goal scorer, the guy who was clearly his mark, making him a really easy option to get the ball to.
The next two images show the speed at which he retreated into a position that was utterly pointless, despite the guy he was supposed to be marking looking more and more dangerous
Competent defending would have mean the goal scorer would not have even got that ball into his feet. An on form Ibou defending like that would have likely completely taken away that guy even being a consideration for the player with the ball looking for a pass to make. But that would require him to proactively defend and he’s now seemingly in a head space where he is concerned with fucking that up that he retreats and hides. This isnt a lack of recognition of the danger. It is recognition of it and responding with fear.

Seems like a coaching issue compounded by a lack of mental counselling…
I guess when things are going poorly for so many players at once you can talk about the role of management being to put players in a position where the can thrive, but what we’re seeing with Ibou is very much a personal issue.

I think it’s time that Slot gives Konate a good rest on the bench and maybe try Gomez or Gravenberch to partner VVD until we can get another CB in the January window. Ibo’s confidence is shot and you can see it. I crap myself every time he’s near the ball.
I’d have played either Endo or Joe when fit.

First Joe hasn’t been fit which leaves us with Endo.
In all the time he’s been at Liverpool have you seen anything that suggests that he can be a viable option at center back across multiple games, beyond how he and Gravenberch have been used as fillers while chasing a game?

He should have ABSOLUTELY been pulled in a couple of games (and he was against Forest, I saw a scared man at the ground, but Arne compounded the problem by having Grav in defence).

Grav and VVD end up in awful positions as well.
Konaté couldn’t come out as far as it would you seem to be implying however he had to keep defending that near post which he seems to be doing for a while then he ends up not doing anything useful. Like Grav, I think both are at fault here, it would have been so easy for Grav to get into a much better position and Konatè to guard the near post.
The issue with Konate is there isno one to replace him, I would have tried Grav there but then that causes issues elsewhere.
I do agree with Mo somewhat in that he isn’t the only one that isn’t performing to the requires levels and I am a massive one for meritocracy.
Ibou needs a spell on the bench as does Cody and Macca
Yeah, just no. This is just scrambling to make things more complicated than they are. We are set up well until Ibou runs away from the guy he was responsible for and who would ultimately score after receiving the ball in the box in way more space than he should have had.
You can maybe question how much pressure Grav is putting on the ball but he only looks like he should have done more with the goal scorer because Ibou ran away from him leaving him so open and needing someone else to do something about it. There is absolutely nothing at all to question Virgil on in any part of that sequence
You could also say on many occasions we have gone down 1 nil because we haven’t taken our chances or shot when an easy pass was on to a player in a better shooting position

He tackled a couple of players in our half.
Thats how bad it feels with a couple of our forwards atm, that they are in more for what they do defensively.
