Post match: Leicester v Liverpool (EPL 20/4/25 4.30pm)

I’ve followed this club for over 50 years and I’ve watched plenty of rubbish in that time.
I’m certainly not “wallowing in misery”, it’s just that I’ve waited 35 years to properly celebrate a title win and wanted to see us smash dross like West Ham and Leicester as we romp towards it yet we are playing like a side that’s already on the beach and it’s fucking disappointing to see.
Last week it was flat as fuck even with VVD’s late winner, there was a bigger let off when Salah got the winner against Brighton. Today I watched it in the supporters club on Breck Road and it was like a fucking wake for most of it. At the final whistle everyone just fucked off home for their tea.
I’m not entitled, I’ve spent a fucking fortune following this club before, during and after the 30 years we went without winning it, I know we have no divine right etc etc but fuck me it’s a hard watch right now and that’s a very apparent feeling among the core-support.

Actually it had a ironically similar feel to Arsenal’s match against them a few months ago.

That was decided by a late two 80+ minute goals and if I am honest we were better than they were that day.

There are the stats by the way.

That was early in the season after we won the league, when most of the team looked like they were still pissed from the celebrations. We had a number of shocking games around that Villa debacle

We drew to Big Sam’s WBA on Boxing Day and the season seemed to collapse from there on in.

Which made Alisson’s late header that helped send WBA down all the sweeter especially as it aided our chances of top 4.

It’s actually quite disturbing how despite after 9 years of heavy metal gegenpress, full throttle football, suffocating teams, one two touch back of the net, devastating 100MPH counters from defending corners etc, that fans can be pleased with the football they’ve watched over the last 2 months. Full of denial, “but the 3 points is all that matters”, I say that’s a load of cliche bullshit. Yes we’re going to win the league, we’ve known for about 72 months we’re going to win the league….does that now mean we can rein in it and not play like champions elect for the rest of the season?

After Spurs, send them all on early vacation and play the likes of Mcconnell Nyoni and Ngumoha.

It’s a weird kind of tensionless tension. We are obviously going to win the league, but these players still have to go out there and win it, in a league where there are no easy games.

I think they are really struggling under the weight of everyone assuming it’s won, but them being the ones that still have to go out and win it, aim the knowledge that they might still lose it. They are playing with such trepidation and nervousness.

Conveniently omitting the part towards the end of that 9 years where we saw teams wander through a non-existent midfield and straight at our centre backs time and again, game after game.

I’m not saying that to slag Jürgen off but we’ve clearly traded some of that gung-ho nature in order to have greater control and give up fewer chances.

The football isn’t as exciting as under Klopp but it’s currently pretty effective. Give me a more subdued style and a title over exciting football that comes up short.

I honestly can’t believe we’ve people moaning about a title winning team, coached by a guy in his first season with us and with just one new signing made because the football isn’t exciting enough. It’s like a sick desperation to find the negative in anything.

Another gold medal load of gibberish. I really do struggle to understand why you even watch games when it seems you are more desperate for a so called “bad” performance. Is this so you can whine and moan.

Then he becomes heavier, more cumbersome and slower, plus putting more stress on his hamstrings resulting in further injury

But that isn’t down to playing well, it is down to inconsistent finishing, look at PSG away we had one chance and scored, today Mo, who is normally our go to finisher could/should have had 4.

Missing chances happens to all teams/players but today at least we created numerous good chances

I have been critical of our last few games especialy against West Ham 2nd half and against Fulham, whom against both you could have said they deserved points, which Fulham got and West Ham didn’t.

But today we were really far more dominant than the scoreline suggested, we had at least 6 good chances.

We really need a player that is clinical, when Mo isn’t, it was Jota but he is going through one of his spells.

One more thing I feel for Diaz moved centrally again to bring Gakpo back in.

He has been playing really well at LW and in the last 5 games he has been our best player assisting or scoring in the previous 5 games.

It looked to me like a final hurrah, sadly.

It can be tough reading your in match emotional “observations” but you have now gone to another level of drivel post match.

Enjoy this magnificent time instead.

Nah. He looks to be leaving.

Yeah I appreciate what Jaffod is trying to say and while Im just focused on enjoying winning the league, I’ll be very concerned if we haven’t made quite a few changes come the start of next season. We probably need 5-6 quality new signings if we want to give ourselves the best chance of retaining the title/lifting number 7.

At the business end of the season, points are the only thing that matter.

We are one win away from winning the league. That achievement is massive , coming into the season with no incoming transfers and having to nurse ourselves through.

In all probability, we’ll end up with 87-88 points this season. If the other teams do not get close to that (and they won’t , no other team is crossing 79 points this season , that’s on them , not on us). Our performances earlier in the season have allowed us to conserve ourselves and get to the finish line. That’s all that matters.

And fwiw , we still have the most goals scored in the league and the 2nd best in terms of goals being conceded. And are 13 points ahead of the nearest rivals. If that’s not been worthy of being called champions elect , then what is ?

Is Liverpool’s form or lack of concerning ? Yes. Could we be better in imposing ourselves? Yes. But that attribute was seen ever since Pepjin replaced Buvac. We started playing more possession based football especially against teams which knew better than to play gegenpressing against us.
