Post match: Leicester v Liverpool (EPL 28/12/21 8pm)

Mo has looked way off it in the last 2 games he has played, is he looking to the afcon and protecting himself?

Hope he now proves me wrong against Chelski

I didn’t think the midfield did particularly well, however the blame for me lies with the forwards, we had a few quality chances and they blew it, stick them in and we win.

I disagree. Henderson has shown that he can adapt to any position in midfield. If we were to play with two in midfield as you say, he will have a different game plan to do, and he will do it.

This season, Henderson at RCM is playing with a high press and going wide right. We have scored plenty of goals. But this system loses some of the defensive stability we were used to with the Fab/Gini/Henderson midfield.

If our press is beat, we are on purpose left exposed at the back, as TAA and Henderson will not always be in position/have the energy to get back. Leicester basically had one chance all game, and scored from it. It’s very unusual in a Prem game not give give at least one good chance away.

Even though we were well below par, we got beat by a smash and grab, which can happen when the opposition’s stars align.

Still three sheets from Christmas, is it? Likewise, lads.

I liked Joël and Kostas.

Makes you think what is our goalkeeping coaches up to nowadays!

I think our forwards need to do more finishing drills…

Well, a midfield two needs 2 very intelligent players in the middle of the park. They must know when to press and when to not press. Being so positionally aware, they are able to block off passing lanes to dangerous areas and do interceptions if possible.

This will also mean such players do not expend too much energy in chasing down opposing players as the opposing players will be shepherded out to less dangerous areas.

TAA will always be caught high up as he will be integral to our wingplay but it is the RCM’s job to know when to cover the RB and when to press together with the RB.

From what I read from your description, Hendo is not that guy.

agreed… midfield was really really poor, with OX non existent, someone told hendo over the holidays that he is Zidane, so he tried that stupid volley not once not twice but THREE fucking times. then keita offered nothing when he came on…jus a mess

just not good enough. Mo can piss off with his 500k wage demands if he lets us down in the crucial moments.

Now we got to make sure to beat Chelsea to consolidate 2nd. City is going to run away with the title (we are no where as good as them technically and vs low block teams) and we need to focus on winning the UCL.

I thought Salah and Jota were particularly poor last night.
In these situations our Midfield push too high they block the situation rather than deblock it like that (btw even Thiago does it). AOC got himself marked out of the game like that.
Also we concentrate too much on going down the right so if Sallah isn’t good we aren’t good. Last night all our right side were out of sync and it hurt us hard.
We needed a playmaker sitting back dictating inste ad we had 8 trying to be playmaker and confusing each other.
Bad, poor night one not to forget but sit back and see where it went wrong.
Mané possibly our best player? (despite missing his chances)

Hard to disagree. When you are up against a team set up like Leicester were last night then you have to move the ball a lot quicker. Players need to be constantly on the move, ready to take the ball in their stride.
That last night was fucking turgid, everyone static, nobody willing to try and beat their man (apart from Matip)…everything wrong in how to break down a team like that.

What? You haven’t been watching LFC matches for very long have you?

2 or 3 nil to them?

67 touches in the opposition’s box without scoring sums it up.

Makes you ask what they were touching, doesn’t it?

Well, that was shit. :rage:

Just a bizarre game. We were off the pace but still so much better. Missed chances. Lost.

Frustration personified.

I hate City. 2 first teams. Ruining football. They will not lose 3 more and we will not win them all. Fail to beat Chelsea and it’s done.

Now the emotion has gone I think we can look at this with more logic.

We can’t be brilliant every game it’s impossible. Even when we won the league we weren’t great every game. But City’s spending means we have to be pretty much perfect every game. We’ve lost 2 and drawn 5 and before city’s oil money come along there’s nothing wrong with that record but now…it’s not good enough.
It cannot all be down to us , we need teams to turn up against city and give them a game like Palace did (and oddly do every season!).
We are getting no favours from other teams who are just rolling over when they face city.
Ok we weren’t great last night but as I said we can’t be great every game. City aren’t great every game they are facing teams who just write off their games with city.
If it wasn’t for us these last few years the premier league would be like the bundesliga.
