TBH, basically we are Dortmund anyway. Its a bit of a bugger because the league should allow for off days. It’s going to affect the spectacle if you have to write off 38 games because of one duff performance.
When Newcastle get to throw money around like confetti it’s not going to get any easier.
If we throw just 1/4 of what citeh spent on their entire fucking squad into our squad, with our coaching, do you think we will win quadruples upon quardruples season after season?
33 straight games with a goal came to an end against a team that can’t defend at the best of times and had none of their CBs available. 60% possession and the best player by far was Matip, a centre half.
Make no mistake about it, this was one of the worst showings and results under Klopp. The players embarrassed themselves. While Leicester gave everything they had, their Liverpool counterparts played as if they were doing a chore. Look no further than Lookman racing for his goal and TAA leisurely jogging back. No one bothered to play with any urgency and intensity until the very last minutes.
They let themselves and the fans down and all but handed the title to City on a silver platter.
Klopp is complaining about the lack of recovery time and he’s 100% right. The schedule is brutal and the players’ welfare isn’t taken under consideration. I don’t understand how that is debatable or relatable to what happened last night.
Because Leicester played 48 hours ago and our team was rested and we were shit. Lacked any rhythm
For me a footballer should be able to play 2 games in a week.
We have a squad of 30 and behind that an under 18 squad of probably 20.
That’s a pool of 50 players to pick.
You can easily argue of course that the quality isn’t there but the whole point of a squad is that you have players to pick. They aren’t all going to be Salah level but the bodies are there
There was a point 2nd half when I genuinely questioned whether we were trying to win the game. That’s how it looked.
Also wondering if it’s time Neco was given a run at RB with Trent pushed further forward, especially when we lose Salah and mane to the AFCON.
I agree we play better when we’re in the 2 game a week rhythm but it’s been shown time and time again we have about 14 players who can be relied upon to do a job.
If you want to play Divock, Minamino etc on a regular basis and lads from the under-18’s then be prepared to finish 6th or 7th.
I’m not particularly looking forward to Minamino-Firmino-Jota as our forwards. Perhaps we should be playing with more midfielders and play the counter attack.
Agreed, still unsure whether Bobby will be anything like the Bobby of 2-3 years ago. If not he becomes a liability. I just don’t see JK giving Minamino regular game time either. A major shift in formation will be needed imo.
Are you saying that we were shit because we were rested?
And once again Klopp isn’t complaining about playing 2 games in a week. He is complaining about playing 2 games in less than 72 hours so that players can recover properly. He specifically mentioned that he didn’t understand why teams had to play on the 26th and the 28th instead of the 29th.
Performance just wasn’t there however still felt we should have won. The penalty miss and resulting header was costly. Mane had a great chance to take the lead but there were other chances as well. Too many players just not at their best. Three points dropped.
Most of the Liverpool team hadn’t played since the Spurs game, nine days ago. How much recovery time do they need? Leicester played City 48hrs earlier, yet played like it was a cup final. Some of our players couldn’t be arsed last night and I’m pointing the finger at the front three mainly, they were dire.
We’ve also dropped lots of points from winning positions though… anytime a team goes up against us physically we can’t cut it, run out of ideas and go aimless punts into the box.
We also have a horrible habit of letting a single incident ruin our game, be it an incorrect ref decision, or missing a penalty… instead of using that as motivation to go harder we seem to bottle it and lose our shit and within minutes it’s spread through the team and we are making unforced errors all over and the momentum shifts.
What happened to the mentality monsters that always found a way to score/win? Bar the final 2 minutes we were second best to everything after they scored. It’s simply not good enough and not the level that wins titles.
Six points behind City , which will increase unless we win at Chelsea , and soon to lose Salah , Mané and Naby for fuck knows how long. Although Klopp would never admit to it , surely it’s time to prioritise now. We should go all out in the cups and just let’s see how it shakes up in the league over the next couple of months.
As for last night , I agree with Jaffod , we just didn’t want it as much as they did. Slag Rodgers off all we like but he had them up for that last night while our lot frankly didn’t look arsed.
