More than the results (in fact it was never the results), it’s the performances that trouble me. They trouble me hard and for a long time. I need to disassociate with this emotion/entanglement. Need to, some how, compartmentalize my brain. It’s so fucking maddening and tiring.
Mmmmm Bayern/Juventus, winning against the number 2 of the Bundesliga Leipzig will come with enough problems as it is. Let’s not think about the next round and what happens there.
We miss Hendo in midfield with his drive. Thiago slows us.
We have been special for so long. A blip is ok.
yeah… i think the whole team is mentally fatigued… been three long seasons… need a reset and refresh
THIS!! well said
I hope so, I really do hope so, my friend.
That was a tough one to take, the errors from Alisson cost us the game, but to be honest, bar the last 10-15 minutes of the first half, City were the better team.
The same predictable patterns of play, lethargic build up especially in transition, and a massive drop of form from key players means regardless of who we play its always going to be a struggle.
Not sure what playing from the back will achieve if you do not transition quickly up the pitch to take advantage of the break in shape of the opposition and actually try and take people on and/or create overload.
Our midfield seem to stay wide more often than not, and its not when just covering the FBs. It has made our build up so predictable as it just gets passed around in front of the opposition.
Compare that to City when they beat the press, only word to use is conviction, they move the ball with purpose, something which we are really struggling with; really hoping with Keita coming back from injury, this is something we can improve on quickly.
Keep on hearing that we have been found out, not sure what that means to be honest, its no secret how we play, we’ve just haven’t been the same team since the restart last year.
I understand the Thiago substitution due to the booking, but the Jones one had me scratching my head, lost midfield completely after that.
Klopp and the management team have some hard work to do on getting the players motivated, key thing here is ensuring we finish in the top 4.
In the meantime I hope he stops with the sound bites he is giving the media, he needs to just get on with it and stop complaining about everything, its just more negativity that the team doesn’t need at the moment.
When you told Burnley, Brighton and City in the beginning of the season that they will return from Anfield with three points each.
There are three things we need to do. Three big issues that are really harming the performances.
-
Stop slowing down. We are continually getting ball on a breakaway, getting so far up the pitch and then stopping, losing conviction, and allowing the opposition to get back in shape. The pattern of play is that we get thirty yards out, pass the ball square for a minute and eventually go back to Alisson. We struggling against low block teams, but we seem to be extremely obliging in letting teams set up those low blocks in the first place.
-
stop refusing risky passes. We’ve become very reluctant to play a risky pass, turning down a through ball or pass with maybe a 50% chance, and preferring to recycle possession through midfield. We’re ignoring promising runs like we’re terrified of losing the ball, and we might be as we’re playing a makeshift defence. We’ve got to be OK with losing the ball deep in the oppositions half. Even if those passes have a low chance of success, you only need one to come off and you’re in.

For gods sake take you man on Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and a few others should be taking more risks in possession. Against, it’s fine to lose the ball deep in their half. Most of our players are capable of taking a man out of the game. They need to find their confidence to do this.
In short, if you can distill this to a single issue, we are too risk adverse. We a scared team. Klopp needs to tell these boys it’s fine to make mistakes and lose the ball especially in their half.
The most lethal counter-attacking team does not make the move forward and when it does it stops and turns around? Over and over again…We know that the cause of this is the multiple injuries and the recurring personnel changes …
The League winning midfield duo of Hendo and Fabinho has to play CB and our Gini/Thiago partnership does not have the same effect.
The one time we play a long ball to Mo, we pierce their defense…and this hardly happens any more. Everyone is waiting around for someone else to do something and confidence is shot.
Let’s stand by our guys and our leader. They need us to find the strength to get a hold of this and turn things around.
I’d say the dressing room at full time was awkward
At least it’s Leicester next. They’re usually good for a sound thrashing.
Started reading this thread and saw some posts defending Allison and Klopp yet they hadn’t even been attacked yet. Just you wait!!!
Is it time for the smiling and hugging to stop behind the scenes and for Klopp to start maybe being hard on the lads in training. I’m not saying this isnt happening but the squad is dead of enthusiasm and forward playing football. Defo down to lack of confidence yes but something different and a fresh approach needs to be sought if were not going back to the way we were. Have strong words with players and let them no it’s not on.
Were back to our bench not being strong enough, that’s a city team without KDB for a while and look at the subs they can bring on. We didn’t have that problem last 2 seasons as we didn’t have to use the bench as we were flying but it’s too much of a drop off and needs to be fixed. Top 4 is a must or we wont be singing anyone in summer only loan deals like Kabak will be sought
Souness was right when your on top that’s when you sign new players as it shakes thing up and no1 is comfortable with there place which looks to me is what’s happening now few lads know theres no1 behind them wanting there jersey…
Need to win a run of games the way utd did and city have done to stay in contention of top 4. Get the fear of god into our lads from klopp point of view and back into the rest of the league playing us…
Easier said than done of course… this is where Klopp will earn his money and we will see if it’s just a blip or if theres no klopp plan B as Kovac isnt there with him in his time of need
There’s nothing wrong with Phillips either, just saying.
Keep hearing, Thiago slow us down, please show me where, I mostly see him taking the least touches to manipulate the ball forward. Jones, our best player today slows it, Gini slows it but this bullshit about Thaigo slowing it is a load of crap
I’m sure that if we had passed to Salah and Mané they might have had something to say. TAA was good offensively (beaten repeatedly by Sterling on defense which really just adds the question why wasn’t he given some help?). Other than that your almost spot on.
Trent started well defensively because he pressured Sterling wider but as the game went on Sterling was able to then run at Trent
We lost the midfield which led to stupid situations where we didn’t wnt to play the ball forward.
Btw what were we doing in the 2nd half? Saving our legs? saving our legs for what? This was the match of the season. Klopp fucked up, it happens but in such an important match there has to be interrogation!
Trent wasn’t great.
He was when we attacked and if he’d taken that freekick that Thiago stole from him (and was playing poorly) I wonder what we would be saying now?
