Post Match: Liverpool v AC Milan (UCL 15/9/21 8pm)

If you think that sort of excessive confidence impresses me then you’re absolutely right.

I can’t see Atletico being happy with a draw in Madrid, especially after already dropping 2 pts at home today. That might shift somewhat if they get anything in Milan next round, but holding serve at home is going to be key in this group.

I was really thinking about the second half mostly and more particularly the last 20 minutes. Trent was really blowing hard by this point and he had a number of misplaced passes. He played well in the first half up to their second goal.

Three points, top of the group, that’s the best I can say.

Happy with the 3 points, that’s the important thing, but I do have some concerns.

Mane’s ongoing struggles are becoming worrying, we really could have done with bringing in another attacking player over the summer. On that subject… Div, Ox and Jones thrown into attacking roles ahead of Taki, if Klopp thinks that little of him then he should have let him go during the summer.

I know he hasn’t played 90 minutes for 10 odd months, but I thought Gomez looked out of his depth at times, not in terms of fitness but game intelligence. If Konate impresses then Joe will soon be battling with Nat for 4th choice.

Ox was shocking for the few minutes he was on, tried to beat the Milan team by himself too often, has Klopp banned him from passing?

Finally, Jota, worryingly anonymous again tonight. Hopefully just a brief dip in form.

Yes but we have to balance the books, that’s is more impart and for Henry and some …

It was a strange game, but I think it’s safe to say Anfield took us over the line today. This comeback wouldn’t have been possible a year ago in empty stadiums. YNWA!

Love to see Captain Hendo’s “angry” goal celebration!

My 3 picks:
Hendo
Fabinho
Big Div (Rarely played and gave a decent performance)

Shout out to Mo…Too bad his missed the pen to further dent AC Milan’s spirit, but made up with a well timed sprint and goal.

Just saw that Origi’s not injured, he was merely cramping. I know he’s not an integral part of the squad nowadays but it would have taken some shine off the win if he had been hurt. Now it’s just a good day in all ways!

Didn’t he only just come back from an injury? Reckon he might not quite be ready yet, but maybe he’ll start against Crystal Palace, and we know he likes doing that…

That looked a lot easierr early than it turned out.
3 points, top of the group, take it any day.

Srsly, for 88 minutes, I thought Milan looked like a side that would be in a relegation battle in the PL.

We should progress from this group.

I had to imagine there was some significance there, but I’m mentally 5 years old. :man_shrugging:

Didn’t see the game but on the first Milan goal thought he could have saved it and was just too slow to get down.

Comparing anything with last year will make the signs look positive, it was that bad. I see this similar to the seasons before. I am super confident even if we concede that we’ll easily score another and see the game out. Especially when VVD is playing.

Liverpool made it tough for themselves. And it was a tough watch.

There will be much tougher teams than Milan going forward and Liverpool cant have brainfades like this. Should have in all likelihood been 3 goals to Liverpool in the first half itself.

Fun game for neutrals. For Liverpool fans though, the incompetence in front of the goal is becoming an exercise in frustration. Something needs to be done, we won’t be winning anything carrying on like this. The mental lapses in the last 15 minutes of the first half weren’t fun to watch either.

Pleased with Origi, worked reasonably hard and had a nice assist. Mane continues to look like he is trying to play himself out of the first eleven.

All in all for a largely dominant performance, there were quite a few sticky spots.

He did seem to allow pushing in the back

I’m not so sure. Their away record last season was a lot stronger than their home record, so hopefully the return fixture shouldn’t be as tough as last night was.

Plus they had the extra buzz of playing at Anfield for the first time to give them that extra spring in their step

That was a brilliant watch. Sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy because these become the games you remember. It’s alright to analyze and say we could do better, should do better and yeah, we could have but games like that are what football should be like. I didn’t see any niggle, aggro, playacting, fucked up decision making and all the things we lose our shit over. It was a team away from home clearly outclassed for a lot of the game who still made a fist of it with quality of their own when on the ball all playing out in front of a fantastic crowd. Like I said before, football happens.
