Post Match: Liverpool v Arsenal (EPL 28/9/20 8pm)

I must declare that Alisson was man of the match in my eyes. He kept the door shut when Arsenal were making a bid to tie the game with stone cold coolness. It really inspires the defence when they know that final line of defence is world class.

Robbo had a bit of a howler to allow Arsenal’s only goal, but to be fair, in full eagerness he made up for it by scoring the go ahead goal to make it 2-1 in our favor.

A big nod to Jota to score a game sealing goal on his debut. This play demonstrated his full technical prowess, controlling the ball off his own chest before shooting a sublime volley that the keeper had no chance to stop!

A solid win by Liverpool. We clearly declared our intent to defend our Crown by telling the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea - it’s not your time yet mate. The Champions of England will defend our rightful title!

I’m glad that Klopp pushed back. If you give these announces an inch they think they can walk all over you. Clearly Klopp was present in the moment and was exactly aware of the risks they took to play a high line but it was their gameplan to do so and it worked. Brilliant win by a hardworking side and a brilliant manager. Hats off to our lads! And the announcers can piss off! Sloppy? NO sir!!

Klopp and his staff are so brilliant, if I was a PL coach, I would just watch his interviews before and after the game and that’s at least 50% of preparing the tactics for the game sorted.

Wrt the game, nothing unexpected really, except for the fact that they were still in the game almost until the end. They have improved under Arteta and go out with a plan, but we’re much better team with much better manager.

Am I blind/biased or does Mane not touch Tierney’s face at all? I can only see contact with Tierney’s shoulder.

He did his best to try and get Sadio sent off good job the ref didn’t buy it the dick

Anyway, so much for Martin Keown saying “Arteta has Klopp’s number”. Got absolutely pummeled tonight in every single aspect of the game.

Having said that, the fact they didn’t immediately capitulate at 2-1 down makes me think they could be helpful in taking a few points off City this season. Don’t care about what they do against anyone else, they’re all irrelevant.

We dominated the game from start to finish, Arsenal were lucky to get away with 3-1. The goal they scored was a gift from us, which was annoying. Still, that was a very good performance and to round the night off, Jurgen tore Roy Keane a new one.

No, I said in the match thread Mane was lucky not to get sent. He shouldn’t be leading with his fist, and fuck knows what he was thinking.

Yellow was about right, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if the ref had sent him.

Felt a bit sorry for Roy, as he was praising the team to the heavens. Jürgen just heard the Sloppy bit.

Mind you, Klopp was right to say that all those sloppy chances, with our ‘risky high line’ would have been pulled back for offside. The reason there isn’t a flag is because the team deal with it. The Maitland-Niles one that Tyler and Neville were willing into the net and then declaring us lucky over was a clear yard offside ffs.

No I was replying to someone else who correctly said that Tierney was touched elsewhere but he was holding his face

According to ESPN, Diogo Jota has more debut second half goals, as a substitute, at the Kop end, than Giggs + Beckham + Rashford have hat tricks in English football.

A fascinating match. I was a bit nervous about the powerful Gunner’s front line, while we were not sure about the health of some of our players until before the match. Without Hendo or Thiago, I was concern about the defensive coverage on the right against TAA, or wondering how to break down the Gunners that is becoming a little bit more discipline. In the end, with Joe Gomez as CB, freeing up Fabinho in the centre, Fab was having a amazing match. It looked really odd to have Naby lad playing so deep as well (normally Hendo’s role even with Fab on the pitch). Naby did an admirable job in addition to the attacking role. My nervousness slowly ebbed away.

The first goal by Lacazette was like a comedy of errors: I suspected that Virg had the slightest of touch, and Robbo was caught out by the deflection. Even our outstanding keeper, who was at his best today; Ali was unable to get to those evil scuffed lucky shot. Talking about at the right place at the right time, Lacazette certainly can prove that.

Speaking of Robbo was not able to make the adjustment from a possible Virg deflection, how about his goal? He was charging full speed into the exact spot that TAA’s beautiful cross (just the routine by TAA throughout the match) supposed to go. But he had to re-adjust massively to knock in the goal, after the ball changed trajectory via a brush to the defender’s head. Willian could only watch.

Diogo, wow, when he came on, it felt as if he already played with our boys at least for 6+ months. TBH, I was worried that VAR would take away his goal, but not to fret, as the ball only hit his “sleeve”. We got to witness our 3 new signings contributing massively already. Now, please, Thiago, Tsimi, with Diogo, stay healthy!

Here are my 3 picks:

  1. Mane: Looked as if he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and in a foul mood. After the yellow card, he channelled his annoyance and ran the Gunner’s defence knackered.
  2. Fab: Those long legs/tentacles of his snuffed out most of the rare threats from Gunners. The positional awareness was definitely better then the CB role in the cup game, perhaps due to his more natural position.
  3. Ali: Going to sound like a broken record - His focus was laser sharp. What a save against Lacazette when the run was on side. Also came out of the box kicked the ball away when he realised the threat long before our defence realised one of the dangerous long ball that caught out the mid and defence.

Mo would have been one of the pick, as he was everywhere both in front and at the back. But the way he took away Diogo’s chance made me swore at the screen.

Other players, which I did not mentioned above, e.g. Gini, Bobby, also did exceptionally well. Bobby may have his detractors these days, but he was providing the link throughout the match. Really would be nice to see him score.

Oh, how about that long range shot by Virg. Wow. Too bad that it did not go in.

Just have to add my voice to the praise of Jota. I didn’t know what to expect really and I thought he fitted in very well, that didn’t feel like his first game. He could have had 3 which shows he has a natural instinct and he pressed hard as well.
Another good signing that suits what we do/need instead of the way Chelsea/Utd seem to recruit, by buying flavor of the month types that don’t address the flaws of the team but make the fans/pundits happy. Long may that continue.
Joe was imperious and Big Virg’s long passing was football porn, totally countered what Arsenal were set up to do.

Yeah it came from the Havertz tweet a few days ago when he hit a hattrick against the mighty Barnsley.

Max Power has about 4 mins.

Gomez looked imperious again. So comfortable on the ball.

Jota looks lively. The movement for the one Salah steals off his toe was impressive. He peeled off and found space two passes before I would have seen the pass coming.

Allison looks like a monster again.

Mane was Mane. What a player.

Salah also so good tonight. His control on all of those 60 yard diagonals is so impressive. He just kills the ball every time with about 6 inches of space between him, the touchline, and the defender. How can teams stop that!? Always an outlet.

Our reputation is going to get us some points this year. Teams are coming to roll over and show us their bellies. It use to drive me crazy in the 90s to see all the teams go to Old Trafford and stand behind the ball and wait for United to beat them, which they eventually always did. We twated Arsenal today and the response is ‘they did well not to get beat by 5’. Klopp will be angry we didn’t win by 5. We will obligingly beat teams that come not too get beat too badly. So impressive tonight.

very good game played out by the lads all done to Klopp’s words/encouragement (of course, bar the Robertson hiccup) Wish all our shots had gone in, and would have been a lot more calmer in the second half. A dominant display by our lads, just hope / wish our shots are not only on target, but actually count on hitting the onion bag
