That was a 4 on 2 and he was t the reason for the goal. The midfield was.
He made many last-defender clearances. The Anfield crowd clearly appreciated him with all the “Ibouuu” shouts so it can’t have been just me.
I actually got a bit choked up remembering that video of Jota going “Ibouuuuu”
I like to call this the butterfly effect defence i.e. looking at the events leading up to a goal to absolve the blame from defender or goal keeper; Player A shouldn’t have lost the ball in that area and Player B shouldn’t have been out of position at the time whole Player C should have nipped in just at that moment (all of which is valid btw and can be worked on) until it reaches a point where people then say, ‘ah it’s too bad’ we fucked up so much 80 yards from goal there’s nothing he could have done, really’. It’s literally creating a chain of events that absolves the defender/goalkeeper of blame when he could also have done better himself, which certainly was the case yesterday.
The Ibou chants have been going on for years and they will continue to do so as he’s a good player and cemented himself as a crowd favourite. I don’t see that as any indication of how well he’s played. If we’re using that as a barometer Nunez would have had the Golden Boot and Chiesa nominated as player of the season.
He had a bad game, there’s no shame in having one and it happens to even the best. Rather acknowledge it, work on it and move on, which I am sure he and the staff will, than pretend it didn’t happen.
Sounds like a long standing dickhead. I used to work with a guy in Glasgow who was a wheelchair bound Rangers fan and he used to come out with constant sectarian “banter”, for example, he referred to my team as “The Fenian Bastards” as he thought we were all Catholic (we mostly were, at least nominally). Having said that, I generally got on with him, and the “abuse” was generally just Saturday afternoon bigotry.
One of my colleagues once went to a Rangers match with him, and said that he spent most of the match spewing abuse at players, officials, pigeons or whatever was in earshot. The stewards and police just smiled and looked vaguely amused at this fury from a helpless, disabled bigot.
The thing is, that it will eventually cross a line. There is much to be said for the Nil By Mouth approach.
Just had a coffee, a couple or crumpets, and an eye-full of bitter Yanited fuckwads practically begging one another to confirm we’ve got nothing but luck going for us, and that VVD and Ibou are slow plodders who have fallen off a cliff.
Not gonna lie, pretty fucking happy my weekend is starting like this.
Aside from the immediate impact on Semenyo and his family/friends, I found myself wondering last night what Virg, Grav, Frimpong, Ibou, Hugo, Gini, Sadio, Barnesy, Sakha etc etc etc etc think when they see shite like this.
The weird thing is that for both goals we conceded, you almost immediately know the moment the chance originated. Then you’re just hoping someone from the reds intervenes to prevent the near-inevitable from happening. There was a chance where we coughed up the ball to Semenyo in the first half that Ali thankfully saved.
Calling it a butterfly effect is a false equivalence. It’s a direct cause and effect. It’s more akin to you’ve just tripped on something and you’ve going to have a hard fall, unless you manage to grab onto something to regain your balance. It’s much more likely that you will hit the ground. But sometimes you’re lucky and you grab something to prevent your fall.
The two big and by far most clear cut chance we conceded all originated from midfield. Literally everyone in the ground groaned at that very moment when Dom lost the ball and Salahs pass got cut out with nobody but Virg and Ibou facing four Bournemouth attackers descending on them.
On top of that, both those mistakes were unnecessary. Dom did not need to try that move there at all. And the fullbacks and Wataru didn’t need to be so far up the pitch at that time that they get bypassed so easily.
I think that the emotion of jota got to the players - thats why it was 100 mph all game. It was like they were saying we have to win for Jota…hopefully now the 1st game at Anfield after Jotas passing is now done we can regain our focus. i know that sounds harsh but we cannot play like that every game.
I totally understand why we were all over the place - it was too emotional - but 10 days until our next match is a blessing.
The new players get a pass as they have haven’t expieienced Anfield like that before and it must have got to them. But play like that against Arsenal as we are getting a hiding.
Im worried about VVD - was it emotions or is he on the decline? Hasnt started so well and its quite worrying.
Anyways, the games done, we got the points lets focus on the next one. Gonna be tough - Toon absolutely hate us right now! That atmos is going to be toxic.
At 2-1 up we were so naive all out attack and we give possession away Semenyo runs the length of the pitch without even 1 attemted tackle and puts it in the corner of Alisson net. School boy stuff.
It just occurred to me that up until the 88th minute, Bournemouth were top of the league. They went bottom a minute later. Small sample sizes are fun, aren’t they?
yall have me to thank for that win. Every match ive ever been to Anfield weve won by at least a two goal margin. Or maybe it’s because all the matches ive been to have been against opposition that we should be beating at home.
So it seems the fan involved in the racist abuse of Semenyo, bringing shame and embarrassment on the club and supporters, has been allowed to get away with abusive behaviour for a long time. There lies the problem, because the stewards who are responsible for that area of the stand, don’t want to be the ones who have to eject him from the stadium. Who can blame them? They get paid peanuts to do the job and are there because they get to watch the game. I’ve witnessed supporters turn on stewards for challenging bad behaviour, so it’s easier to just look the other way.
I’d be interested to know if any fans who witnessed the alleged racist abuse, actually reported it to the stewards or did they choose the easy option and do nothing? It seems like the latter to me because nothing happened until after the referee stopped the game.
If the allegations are proven, I sincerely hope this person is prosecuted and banned from Anfield for life. Wheelchair or no wheelchair.
