Post match: Liverpool v Bournemouth (EPL 15/8/25 8pm)

Slot made a mistake getting Endo in as RB and tried his best to rectify it by putting Gomez in there.

Awful subs but we managed to turn the game around.

Hopefully Chiesa gets more playing time now.

So, will it be Monday or Tuesday when PGMOL (or whatever those clowns are called) admit that handball decision was incorrect and they should have had a player sent off? At the very least the ref should have been asked to check the monitor.

Yeah, I think that’s what annoyed me if your going change your right back do it for someone who has played there even if it’s giving Frimpong more time. I don’t think putting Endo there was a good idea and it showed.

I was watching some guy in the park schooling a kid on how to get his leg over a bouncing half volley the other day. I hope he saw how Fede did it tonight.

Well ironically he was the good sub and the only one people will remember.

Endo lacks recovery pace, once in position he is hard to get past.

Also, maybe Arne was a little reluctant to give Joe too long and we all know why

Ekitike even sounds like Theirry Henry

Hope that Grav’s return will sort out many things that are not in place.

Matty with a positive opening thread.
Season starting with a win.
Slot making a mistake and fixing it, enabling the win.
Gomez and Chiesa turning it around, and the fans believed, what a loud Chiesa song. Chiesa now a kop favourite?
Salah with another goal at opening day, and what a goal.
Ekitike 2 games with 2 goals and an assist, and a MOTM.
Gakpo growing into his game.

Bar Ekitike, the other new signings seem to need time to adapt. Szoboslai hopefully now to only be played in his position.

If you are going try and go for a third then simply don’t do it. He’s fine in the middle and mopped up and potential attacks from Bournemouth when he went back over.

It was a bit of mess, I’m not normally this crictical but it was vital to win tonight and the game was won and we had to win it again.

Don`t you dare selling Ciesa

What an exhilarating end to this game! The situation changed as soon as Wirtz was off and Chiesa came on. Far more energy to our attacks, and Bournemouth were quickly overrun, while the balance between attack and defence was far better. What a goal from Chiesa, and then from Salah! Wonderful! That’s why we watch these games, to see the roof of Anfield being lifted by such occasions!

Before that, Slot played with fire by taking Frimpong off and playing Endo out of position, and the team was over-committing time and time again, inviting Bournemouth to come at us and they logically scored. It was frustrating, because until the 2-1, we were in a semblance of control against a really good team, and they showed that when we let them get into their stride.

Good debut for Ekitike, with a nice goal, and a cool assist for Gakpo! :+1:

One general remark: the lads shouldn’t forget to always make Salah the fulcrum of our attack, when they can. As long as Etikite and Wirtz were on the pitch, he was somehow sidelined and didn’t come into the game. Everything was going through the new boys. As soon as they were off, we had the old Salah again.

That’s the chemistry Slot and co. have to get right: taking profit from the new guys without losing the already existing qualities. Hopefully it will come with time. But tonight, we take the three points, and that’s obviously the most important thing, as always.

Give Wirtz a hug. Apparently he is very hard on himself. needs to know, it will take time

You know what we’re like, chilling is not in our vocabulary unless we are 10-0 up with 15 minutes to go.

What really irks me is that lambasting Szob gets, when he was probably our best midfielder today, yes he gave the ball away fro their goal but how many times did Macca and Wirtz give the ball away and us not get punished.

When do you see a player with 100% pass stats?

For me it is more an issue with our structure when we do lose the ball.

Look at both goals, it’s not like possession was given away in our defensive 3rd but the shape is all wrong.

BTW it is what Arne has also mentioned.

Watching the Chiesa goal again he looks to have bulked up a bit from last year doesn’t look as lightweight.

Re watching Chiesa’s goal that is one hard finish, excellent

I can see a future where Wirtz has to be one of the front three, our midfield is too weak with him there, or maybe it is just Grav not being there. Dom, Mac and Wirtz will struggle as a midfield.

The game went down for me, and I missed three goals. It came back up when we were at 2-2. I am not saying the win has to do with me, and I am also saying that the win has nothing to do with me.

It’s funny you think you enjoyed matches far more after the final whistle…

I think this panned out as I thought. Great in attack but disorganised defensively.

Generally I am pleased with the performance and more than happy with the three points.

We clearly aren’t the finished article here. I expect us to improve tactically and see games out better.

Incidentally, Slot really likes to swap out his full backs. We saw it last season, but he changes them like Klopp would replace the midfield.

Newcastle next… 10 days. Anyone’s guess what we look like then.
