Post match: Liverpool v Bournemouth (EPL 15/8/25 8pm)

He boils my piss does Carragher. Good to see Slot slapping him down.

VVD and Konate were very ordinary. It was like two defenders playing at CB who has no clue what to do. Both were rushing or backing off at the same time. Endo isnt a RB. Dont sell Kostas as Robbo isn’t getting younger.

'it was Diogo’s day’published at 22:46 British Summer Time

FT: Liverpool 4-2 Bournemouth

Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Federico Chiesa to BBC Sport: "[The goal] was a great moment for me but my thoughts go to Diogo. I think for what we have seen it was his day. The feeling that the fans gave me, chanting his song all the way through the match. It was very emotional, very emotional for me. I have to say that after the goal my thoughts went to his family, his brother Andre. That’s the only thing I could say.

“At the end of the day we have to focus on the football. We wanted to win today. It was a difficult match, we went 2-0 up and then they came back, but we showed why we are champions. Of course Diogo would have helped us a lot but unfortunately he was somewhere else and he helped us in another way.”

On his first Premier League goal: "Unfortunately one of the goals didn’t count because it was at Wembley and we lost, but today it was the 3-2 goal. I helped my team to get an edge in a very difficult game and then at the end we scored for 4-2. As I am concerned all the Premier League games are tough until the end. You never know. We have to continue like this.

“It took me one year to score in the Premier League but as we say in Italian: Better late than never.”

Did it all go to shit when Frimpong and Kerkez were subbed, or was it already in decline? I missed this part of the game.

The squad cant carry 3 left backs who are all none homegrown.

He always is.

I personally didn’t think there was much to worry about when they went off, they had a couple of chances but nothing concerning.

Slot said it was precaution, because he doesn`t want another injured fullback.

'This should never happen’published at 22:42 British Summer Time

FT: Liverpool 4-2 Bournemouth

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot, speaking to BBC Sport: "We started the second half really well, being 2-0 up but we were playing against a team that never gives up.

“You have to give credit to them but they faced a team that is very fit as well.”

On Chiesa scoring: "Fantastic. He came in in the end because we needed a goal. For him then to score in such a moment is special. It is even more special because the fans have supported him. It is nice that he gives them something in return with a great goal.

“The referee today kept the game going, it was a very high and intense game. Both teams were at it, trying to attack, trying to go through transition and not timewasting.”

On Antoine Semenyo reporting being racially abused by someone in the crowd: "It is obvious we do not want this in football. We definitely don’t want this at Anfield. Unfortunately it is part of the story because we should talk about the great tribute for Diogo Jota.

“This should never happen in football, let alone Anfield.”

It’s crazy how different t perception is at the stadium compared to tv. We were always much more likely to win. We made two mistakes in midfield that caught us out. At times we were too elaborate/overly finessed than we needed to be. When we got determined after they equalised there was only going to be one winner.
Really didn’t feel like we were going to lose on the field. We just got more determined and the crowd definitely helped. The best player was Ekitike until he tired. He is a mixture of skill and tenacity. Strong, pacy, can hold it up under pressure, bag of tricks quick feet, a street fighte type. He’s gonna do fine.

My top 3 are Szobo, Gakpo, and Hugo. I thought Szobo was tireless again. Not a flawless performance, but still polished and industrious.

There isn’t a reason to panic I don’t think. That second goal was after a turnover given away in a very bad area by Salah when Bournemouth showed they were willing to throw caution to the wind and counter attack off anything. So yes, Slot will definitely tweak his midfield for next week. This game could almost be considered a game of getting our bearings with a tonne of new recruits.

I hope Kerkez isn’t getting slammed after that. Sure, he might be a hot-headed eager beaver, but we saw just how dangerous Semenyo had been all game when he scored two after Kerkez went off the pitch.

Great result. Decent performance against a tricky opponent and some necessary tweaks needing to be made by the coaches before the next game.

Finally, he may have had an ordinary game .but if that moment at the end with Salah and the crowd didn’t make your eyes well up then you aren’t human. He was strictly business during the match (no 20 symbols to the camera) so it was nice that he got this moment to release with the crowd.

'We lost many players but not our mentality’published at 22:53 British Summer Time

FT: Liverpool 4-2 Bournemouth

Liverpool

**Liverpool boss Arne Slot on his side’s performance against Bournemouth: "**It was a great game to watch. This is what makes football so great, all three parties involved wanted a good game: Us, Bournemouth and the referee. High tempo, no stoppages or time wasting. Well done to them, they went 2-0 down and kept on fighting, and so did we when they came back.

“In every running stat they were very high last season, and you could see again how fit this team was and they never gave up. For the goals our rest defence was in place but the pace they had and the tempo they kept up they got past, but they faced that too. Bournemouth faced a team that never gave up. We lost many players during the summer but we did not lose our mentality.”

On how his side changed the game after losing their lead: “Normally at 2-2 everyone knows which player I look to at that moment in time. I would have loved to bring in Diogo Jota, but I could not for terrible reasons. But tonight the fans and the players did what he did for us many times in the past.”

I keep seeing this said, but it was on the edge of their box. Even on the first, of the things that went wrong on both goals, the turn overs were both deep into their half.

Yeah, i think he’s done a great job at Bournemouth, and his willingness to stay, turning down the Spurs job, he deserves a lot of respect. I hope he has another good season.

Caught the last half hour and what I saw was the usual idiotic game management since the first preseason match. 2 goals conceded to counterattacks, because we were all over the place, when we lost possession.

Thank fuck that Slot finally resorted to playing Chiesa, who repaid him with an incredible finish of a chance that was anything but easy.

We better work on the defensive transitions on the next 10 days, because otherwise, it could get ugly against Newcastle. Also, Frimpong’s tight hamstring on the first PL game of the season, with Bradley still out and Gomez back after a month on the sidelines isn’t a good sign.
