Post Match: Liverpool v Brighton (EPL 1/10/22 3pm)

I think some of you experts should apply for Klopps job or even Peps.

Great throw away statement we all know we aren’t qualified, however you can see the basics of the defensive side of our coaching isn’t working, it needs to be sorted as we are a shambles defensively, we can’t just go gung ho every game.

Don’t worry mate, the superfans will tell you it’s fine if we got relegated…

When you have Klopp throwing out words like ā€œhorrificā€ when describing our defending today, I’d make an educated guess it was a bit shit.

I am at a loss I see it every game and I have been saying the same thing for more than a year about us tracking runs, but seems our coaching team don’t see the same issues.

I think you’re missing the point. I don’t think anyone is saying that all is good, that our defending is perfect, and that somehow we’re conceding goals magically.

My point is simply that what you see as a flaw and the basics of our defensive coaching not working, might simply be that they’re trying to implement a system that contains those features by design, and aims to achieve the same goals by other means that negates this as a flaw.

It’s like going back to the whole man-marking vs zonal marking at corners with Rafa again. And yet, who was right in the end?

Why can’t fans point out the reasons they believe are costing us or what’s wrong with the current group of players and their overall performance on the pitch without others making ridiculing comments like this 1?

It’s a forums board, people can express how they feel how and when they like.

I don’t get it…

No you were flippant in your remark, I understand the system they are trying to work but it isn’t working as you cannot simply ignore runners, which we are doing time after time, sometimes defenders have to defend. If our players covered runners in more of the circumstances where we have conceded this season, then I reckon we have 50% less goals against.

It’s a joke you clown. :grinning:

Lol it’s not though is it, overreaction to what you believe are knee-jerk like comments & fans thinking they know better…no one’s said anything controversial other than someone saying Virgil’s our biggest problem.

Our midfield is the problem, especially Henderson.

Btw, Thought I went crazy when Milner replaces Kostas, so there went crosses from the left side …

We had the same problem when Henderson was out.

I think someone is looking for attention.

Geezz… reading the comments on here, you’d think we just lost 4-0 or something…

Couldn’t see the game, but drawing against Brighton at home isn’t the end of the world. They have become a difficult nut to crack for us recently, so I can’t say that I’m surprised by this result.

Let’s see how the lads react to the disappointment of that late against goal. They’ll surely be furious against themselves and willing to make amends.

You identify the problem as ignoring the runners, but I’m willing to bet the coaching team sees it as the players not being in the spaces that they should be in. Close down the space and you wouldn’t have that problem.

That’s what I mean. I do apologise if you view my reply as flippant, I’m doing much less than basically most people who have posted in this thread. I just happen to have a more moderate view than them, one that runs counter to the theme of panic that seems to be going on around here.

Thiago was out too, Henderson was horrible today. For some reason people love him but he is noting more than an average midfielder who plays in a excellent team. Put him in a Everton midfield and you will not see the difference ,

He is our Maguire, in al the matches I have seen him play he has hardly ever been the deference maker, overrated …

Oh dear

I think this whole idea that the players don’t care and aren’t working hard is rather ridiculous. Not that it’s necessarily intentional on your part, but it’s just such a tired and often untrue trope.

Last season he played in most games and we had a great season. Our whole midfield is out of form this season. Fabinho looks much slower, Elliott not suited to our system and Thiago also injured. We need a young Henderson/Gini.

That’s where it is falling down as we aren’t in those spaces because there is no pressure on the ball we then have to track players, however, it seems our fall back position is to try and step up catching them off, which doesn’t work without the afore said pressure on the ball and is something it seems we are being coached as it happens too often to be individuals. We need to go back to the drawing board.

We as a team play high, no problem with that, but a coaching ethos is when an opposition player in possession gets their head up i.e no pressure we have to drop and cover runners.

Trents defending has reached Harry Maguire levels of atrocious. If you made a video of his defending it would require the Benny Hill theme song in the background.
