Since he’s come in, we’ve been on the up and up, and reached finals, won trophies, the elusive league title.
Now we find ourseleves in a bit of a mini slump, but the world has not ended. Well, i’m sure Klopp will see still half the season games still to go, still in the next phase of the Champions League, etc.
Well, let me give out some probably unheeded advice. In life, there’s going to be ups and downs. If you give up at the first hurdle (and this slump is just that), then you’re not going to achieve anything in life. Work out the solution and give it your best shot.
I don’t think anybody thinks Klopp’s leaving. We’re looking at why we’re playing so badly. Klopp does have a historical pattern of being brilliant then falling off.
All of this right here. I’ve included this exact thought in nearly every post I’ve made that’s tried to figure out what’s gone wrong. Obviously very frustrating and IMO there is something going on we don’t know about or see, there is something happening in that room. We are likely dealing with various distraction(s) whereas before the solidarity, galvanization and “mentality monster” ethos was unlike any other.
All that said, these boys have been playing at such an incredibly high level for a long period of time, this dip in form was coming eventually. 3 straight years of almost perfection. However the dip is just so extreme that it almost defies reality and it’s heartbreaking. You can see it on the players faces.
It all starts with the Boss. I do believe his tactics have become stale and the squad showed very little ambition to go to any sort of plan b. We’ve talked about it ad nauseum already, hopelessly crossing the ball into the box to no one in particular over and over and over. And trying to beat Burnley in the air was a really strange way to play. That’s literally their exact game.
Oh and regarding Thiago, it’s only a matter of time before the “fans” start to turn on him and it’s one thing I potentially feared. He’s not a goal scorer nor is he particularly an assist maker. That’s not his game. But the way some people were on about him signing here made me wonder if they’d ever actually watched him play. He was brought in here to keep the opposition guessing as we change our tactics and evolve our style of play (as Pep Lijnders put it) but through the first few matches I don’t believe he’s being deployed in any unusual or different role to anyone else that’s played in that slot within the formation.
Football = work? It does in so much as it’s a physical activity conducted to achieve an objective. However as it’s also universally considered to be an enjoyable sport in which many of us participate, it doesn’t really compare with digging roads, teaching kids or being a fireman.
One thing I will say about stats like against the bottom 6 and so on is that before Palace only Fulham was a game that baffled me, we’ve got through to Xmas in a good position and since we’ve been poor.
I did say they looked exhausted a few games back, last night was at least better as we tested Pope and the space TAA had was in better days devastating.
But they do need to come up with something new in the weeks to come, if we start beating teams 1-0 or 2-0 with a low block then we will see it end.
WBA was an anomaly in all that, they were beaten and came out second half.
I feel slightly better to be able to concentrate on top 4 in a way, we just need to get at it now and that starts with the cup.
I wasn’t going to come into this thread, it was that annoying to watch the game yesterday but ive calmed down a bit now. Im beginning to hate being more upset at the end of a game than before it though (even though i know i’ll still watch every game it wont be as much fun). Only wanted to say one thing about our team.
Whilst i know our form is terrible about now it has to be said that its not too surprising. If you go into games knowing everything is going to go against you, the other team can kick you off the park and get away with it whilst the slightest nudge on them ends in a free-kick and possibly a yellow it will get you down. You go into games expecting the worst. Thats not an excuse for the team, its just a fact of life. If i went into my job knowing i’d have to be twice as good as the others on an unfair playing field it would eventually grind me down and i think thats what happened.
It also isn’t helping that Klopp seems to be getting down too, that’s bound to transfer to the players but that can’t be helped either. I mean, refs coming out to say they’re sorry for making a mistake isnt helping us after the game. Other teams near the top getting weird decisions (utd pens etc) is also probably just as aggravating as us not getting stonewall penalties. The injuries on top just finish it off.
I was half expecting what happened yesterday. I know what i’d like to see happen on the pitch but know it probably wont. Waiting for someone to start the Utd pre game thread to make a comment on that but as much as i hate to see managers whining we need something close to a Rafa rant from Klopp. Yes he’ll get ridiculed in the press and maybe even fined but in this instance a lot of the things he can point out are actually in the press. The ref admitting he should have sent dino arms off, old utd bias, Rashford admitting to being taught how to go down easily. Countless other mistakes against us that im sure there are a few that even the pundits have had to agree with. Let them try to counter with mistakes in our favour, actually ask them to point them out, there definitely arent many if any at all.
If we don’t do this we cant expect anything at all to change. It’ll go through this season and into next. I can stand seeing us lose even to the Burnleys of the world, what i cant stand is seeing our players so dejected at knowing at least 1 game changing thing every game will go against us.
At the time, that looked a penalty to me. It was late, there was contact and Mane went down. They didn’t even check it, as far as I know. If it had been at the other end, you can bet they would’ve spent 5 minutes looking at it, before awarding the penalty to Burnley.
If you genuinely think the only difference between you having a kick around in the park and a professional footballer is that they are better at it than you, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Just seen the pre match conference for Scum game and listening to Jurgen, he just brings so much belief out there, that he will lead us out of this rot. Such a shame people doubt this man.
The one thing that bothered me was the question of signing a player this Jan. It’s strange how the narrative changed from a few weeks ago when we said “It’s difficult to find the right player” to “I cannot spend the money, because I don’t make the decision to spend”
Doesn’t boast well about the finances or dare I say FSG.
Back on football, It is time " we strike back" as Jurgen always says.
This could be the game the tide is turned. Make the scum suffer a defeat at their home, extend your cup run, dent their confidence and then
Boom
You can actually. I used to get it playing rugby. At the end of the season the motivation for training etc. started to wane. Everything started to hurt more, I basically started to get jaded. Rested up over the Summer and boom, flying again for the start of the next season.
Yeah, the lads at liverpool work less at their game than I did when I was 14.
Come on man, never said anything like that. I’m already bowling ready for this cricket season and I’m shitter than dog excrement. But it does get wickets
