Post Match: Liverpool v Burnley (EPL 21/1/21 8pm)

100%

Fabinho is by far our best defensive midfielder. Hendo and Thiago are world class in other things but Fabinho was the Shield in front of our CBs - breaking up counters and making sure the danger doesn’t even arrive at our CBs.

There you go again. Have some fucking respect for the people who have not put a foot wrong for five years.

You can say it’s a mistake, a gamble that hasn’t paid off - but to call Klopp and his team arrogant, negligent and incompetent is fucking absurd. Absolutely ridiculous hyperbole.

seems like you have poured my feelings mate !!
Boss seems to be getting involved in this kind of stuff too much off late. It’s even creeped into pre-match conferences as well, when someone asked him the other day, if the current issue is about confidence.
He just needs to stay out of the limelight a bit. Tbh, I won’t mind right now, on taking a backseat for a few days and make Pep Ljinders the incharge for the FA CUP game. The way I see it , It’s taking too much of a toll on him and unfortunately, the players are not helping him.

i did criticize the team in the last two games but today and despite being wasteful and rubbish in the final third we still created 4 direct goal scoring opportunities and enough to win this game by a mile.
to win against teams like Burnley you need either a semi counter attack when the 10 are not defending or to play the ball between the 6 yard and the 18 yards on the side , we did both but couldnt score.
the penalty was not a penalty in a million years and refereeing is very very suspicious this year

Since everyone is losing their shit to the point that you have posters who think the best manager we’ve had in thirty years is ‘incompetent’, this needs saying.

Liverpool have just ended an undefeated run at Anfield that stretches back 68 games, right back to April 2017. Stretching over four separate calendar years, and lasting three years and nine months.

It’s about a year ago that I said that this run was unnatural and would end soon, and when this happens the lads should be applauded off the pitch. Well, obviously that can’t happen, so I’ll say it here

Well done lads. Well bloody done.

You can call yourself what you want, but anyone who thinks this drop in form and performance has been since we lost Van Dijk is deluding themselves.

As GermanRed says, since fans stopped being in stadiums we have for the most part being poor. Van Dijk and Gomez were playing through all of that. A few good games aside (typically against the top 4 aside).

And we did strengthen we went out and bought one of the best in the world at unlocking low blocks, we brought in a forward who looks to be exactly what we need and a left back to rotate with Robbo… I’d say we have strengthened from a strong position. That they have all been injured, combined with the biggest drop in form of our front 5 I’ve ever seen is staggering, yet none of that blame is on Edwards and FSG (as you elude). The blame is Klopp and the team, whatever the funk is needs sorting… I’d hoped the battering by Villa would be the spark to ignite this team into life… Sadly it didn’t and if we don’t after being embarrassed at home by bottom of the league then this team is done, it needs ripping up and going again.

To roll out names like upamecano (who doesn’t match what we need in the slightest, he is nothing like Van Dijk) just shows a complete lack of understanding.

I cant for the life of me think after watching last night when we literally camped on the edge of their box with 80% possession that the blame is FSG and Edwards for not bringing in a center back who would need 6 months to get up to speed… As I say idiotic if you think so.

Also all the calls for losing Fabinho from center midfield baffles me… Last season he was a huge problem in center midfield when he came back from injury. Not tracking runners, over-committing… He’s gone up quite a few levels playing center back, so I dont actually think we are losing a lot. In fact I’d prefer he stayed as a center back when Van Dijk is back…

Yeah, well said.

Btw…if one of you lot is the ‘fan’ I just heard on the radio saying it is time for JK to go…punch yourself in the dick.

The team who aren’t doing what he asks (if you listen to his post match presser, clearly saying we ignored all of the patterns of play trained to get in behind…) would be first to go before Klopp.

I read last night Milner would have been fuming sat watching that from the bench, I think he needs a few starts at right back to do exactly what the manager wants, send some rockets to a few players.

This has all started when we lost CBs. It has a knock on effect. Its madness that a club like LFC are praying that 1 CB doesn’t break every game and playing the worlds best DM in CB.
Fabinho is doing a great job but we are really missing him in the centre of the park.
I heard the commentator say last night if Hendo was fit he wouldve played alongside Fab at CB so again two CMs at CB as clearly the youngsters arent good enough.

Certain players are not good enough and needed to moved on way before now - Ox and Origi - ive no idea why we are enduring these woeful performances but both need to move on. Injuries have killed Ox - last night he bottled out of every tackle. Origi was Origi - sometimes he does something great but 99/100 he doesnt.

No idea why Klopp doesnt rate Minamino - we havent scored since WBA at home and in that time he has had about 3 minutes of game time.

Thiago - has to do better much better. You can see whats happening - because we dont have VVD and Gomez the CMs are way too deep as they dont want to leave the CBs exposed but we cant have our midfield so far behind the attack. At one point Matip was further forward than the entire midfield (how good was Matip by the way?)

TAA - Covid? Lack of form? whatever, he needs resting. It looked like he was crossing a medicine ball. 100s of crosses all awful. Didnt find a Red shirt once.

We have loads of players off form but also its not helped by our CB situation - it all stems from losing our spine.

I said the other week if we dont bring in a CB I just see our season fading out and thats whats happening. We could be 7th when we play our next league game.

Its going to be a tough couple of weeks because this blip has lasted a month.

The players look mentally shot. I mean how many times did they try the same thing again and again and again and got the same result. Its like a PC thats glitching trying to keep rebooting itself.
The crosses, they either didnt find anyone or floated into the keepers arms. We needed to try something different but the players just looked done like they were all thinking we well we wont score today when last season that wouldve never entered their minds.

I can’t find or work out which games this season we had fans in Anfield, was it the Spurs game? Just wondering if it co-incided with our wins like Leicester or Spurs etc. Bobby seems the most polar player i.e. without fans not a lot, but with fans several levels better.

Who was at centre back when we huffed and puffed against Leeds? When we got pumped by Villa? Who was at centre back at the end of last season against Villa and Arsenal?

I think there is a bit of a a perfect storm going on for us. We’re out of form and we’ve had bad luck with injuries. But we’re also suffering mental exhaustion from the two superhuman seasons we’ve put in, the physiological effects of playing behind closed doors, despondency from the refereeing decisions we’ve had to endure, teams setting up even more defensively etc.

Please, let’s not kill each other on the threads.

There are some fairweather fans saying on the radio, thank uou but it is time to bring in Simeone

This is madness. We need to be patient. These are unusual times and circumstances.

I agree, read last night that this is basically City last season, after 2 huge seasons the players who get so much demanded from them just ran out of gas… Both Klopp and Pep train them much harder than most other coaches also so its relentless. Having to compete at the highest level with the highest of standards (i.e. 100 point seasons), and the drop off even slightly combined with no fans is just as you say a perfect storm.

The injuries haven’t helped as I think Thiago, Jota etc. We’re the solution to the burn out problem… Unfortunately we lost them both at the same time and had to rely on the already running on fumes front 5.

Regardless of the actual season panning out we have been fairly ordinary lately. Almost like going through the motions in the expectation of the season being canned.

Jurgen:
"If something doesn’t work, you have to try harder, more often, longer. It was not easy to lose that game and we did it.“

I’d have thought trying something different was the key. Just doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

Yes our form has dropped off since we won the league and had no crowds but the CB and CM positions have been disjointed.

Totally agree about mental exhaustion - I said in the summer we have ran through walls for 2 seasons - last season will never be done again in terms of coming out and dropping 2 points for first 20 odd games or whatever it was. That took real mental strength especially after losing the league by a point the previous season with a record amount of points.

The players just look knackered.

Probably not a Liverpool fan. More likely a bitter or a manc, stirring it up.

The only suggestion that I have at the moment is that our movement up front is poor. We’ve never really got behind teams, we just pressure them into mistakes. Seldom do we turn a defense inside out. How often do we see TAA cross the ball from the bye line?

We’ve become too predictable I think and teams have adjusted so that the mistakes aren’t happening. It’s become too easy.

West Brom too…but yes, I do believe we in particular have suffered from not having a full stadium.

Fair enough, co-incidence that we should have easily won v’s West Brom, they scored right at the death and this slump started and we lost all belief? Or clutching at straws…
