Post match: Liverpool v Chelsea (EPL 28/8/2021 5.30pm)

2 points dropped.

Overall not a good team performance.

Matip stood out.

Robbo, Trent, Hendo, Fabinho, Mo and Sadio had an off day.

Similar to the atmosphere at Anfield.

Somehow I am not really disappointed with the result - maybe because it is early in the season.

Two mistakes by Klopp:

  • starting Robbo when it was clear he isn’t ready for 60 minutes. That did cost us a helpful substitution for an more attacking position.

  • not bringing on Keita or Ox when we needed something through the middle.

The top of the PL has 3 teams on exactly the same figures…so why are we third…at the end of our game it was stated Chelsea are only above us alphabetically…
So why aren’t we second…

West Ham have scored more goals. Simple.

I think the same. I presume the long Covid has really affected him. I thought he was very average today. Seems to struggle when opposition defenders are up tight on him with his back to goal. Not able to hold it up well enough and to often trying to draw the foul than do something useful with it.

FFS - I see the Chelsea Rent Boy chant came out today.

Bloody VAR…

Pretty disappointed with that. Every right to beat a 10 man Chelsea, regardless of how well organised they were.

Without Thiago, our midfield is too workmanlike and relies too much on hard graft. He obviously isn’t ready to start yet and we really need him for his creativeness. Elliot can offer that, but with only Hendo and Fab alongside him we are short on creativity IMO.

If I’m only going to consider performance and not match fitness, I think Robbo was poor today and Hendo was average at best.
I get really frustrated with us passing from side to side 30 yards out and then attempting a cross that gets blocked our putting it into the box for one of our “massive” forwards to get onto it.
A lot of shit deliveries for our corners today as well.

Early days, but need to do better.

Unfortunately, he really only has Origi to worry about taking his place, so very little to concern him.

Not if we go 4231

The thing that stands out for me is how willing he is to take responsibility for things. Or at least he did today for the first hour. After that I saw what you described above. It’s probably mental fatigue of being able to sustain the intensity at this level, but felt that he could have made way for Ox or Keita, or even Minamino around that point in the game.

We deserved the win today , Only team out there today that was the daddy which was us on another day we’d get the 3.
On to the next one.

Another game, another horrendous Mane performance. Needs to be moved on before deadline and a real world class replacement brought in, along with some bench presence that’ll actually score a goal.

Harvey Elliot had an 87% pass completion rate. That’s great for any EPL player considering his age and experience it’s fantastic!
So don’t get upset if i don’t believe you about Hendo either who imo was our best midfielder in the 2nd half.

Gutted. We need to strengthen at the front. Bobby and Sadio aren’t going to cut it if they play like that.

Mane has definitely not been the same player since catching Covid.

You are blind. He missed a one-time volley from 10yd out in the first half when the game was wide open

When you’re playing against a parked bus, it’s hard to make a “run into the box”

He needs to fight for his place, and there are no challengers. That needs to change, as he stunk the place out today. Both of our wings produced sweet fuck all for 90min

No thank you. I’ll have Sadio and Bobby over any duo we can afford.

67% possession 2nd half, camped in their half, didn’t get one free-kick. They got 7. Says everything that needs to be said about a fucking manc reffing our games.

The sending off probably worked against us. Think we may well have won 11v11 but it forced them to pack the defence and we struggled to create anything.

I felt beforehand this game may have come too soon for us given the lack of playing time for some of our lads and it showed in the first half.

Great to see VVD handle the stat-padder so well.
