Agreed. Both Mane and Salah looks to have lost pace for me, but Salah has adapted and plays mostly as the guy getting on the end of balls and finishing stuff rather than trying to beat his man like 2-3 seasons ago.
Ok, what I should’ve said was, we had zero attempts on target.
I felt Fabs and Matip had some poor moments and Fabs didn’t help us much. My first sub would have been Fabs for Thiago or if feeling adventurous Kieta. Even if by the time of the 1st sub Elliot looked more tired than Hendo.
looks like a muscle injury for firmino according to kloop
He was jus sayin, " i got u, jus keep doing what u doing"…
Well one less going if they do actually go.
I know it’s famous last words but I assume they way he jogged off he will be fine for Leeds
Liverpool (2.43) 1-1 (0.60) Chelsea
Based on what I saw it’s the same old issues. Lack of width. The width we do have is all 30 yards from goal. We never turn defenses that are content to sit in.
Its not lost pace for me it’s that teams no longer let them exploit space. Salah has been able to adapt his game more to this Mane hasn’t.
we will agree to disagree Mr Neville…
Not even the shot stopped going over the line by a Chelsea hand.
Every side has an off day or when things aren’t clicking.
That said, with the continuity of players and tactics we’ve had for multiple years, I’m mildly surprised that our attack has gone very stale. Klopp’s Achilles is low block teams, but yet we still don’t have a plan b to break that down or impose our own will. Something is amiss. We had difficulty scoring for long stretches last season.
It’s early days, and obviously still MILES to go in the season but this one was frustrating. Chelsea still created dangerous scoring chances down a man. Matip’s positioning and right boot saved the draw. Lukaku had a point blank shot.
Harvey is a big talent, which I’ve been saying since the cup game vs MK Dons 2 seasons ago, but it felt as the match wore on he was happy to defer to Mo, never really looking for his own chance.
For me, it absolutely feels like 2 points dropped. Maybe I’ll feel differently tomorrow.
Matip far and away my MOTM.
I thought we were pretty rusty all over the park with our passing. I don’t think we’ll be that bad in possession again this season. Chelsea caught a break there.
Matip was phenomenal again.
Taylor is a limp dicked cunt but I knew that before today.
That’s pretty much all my thoughts today.
We’ll be a fuck load better this season.
The problem with Taylor was he reffed the game like 2 different ones. What was a foul for Chelsea wasn’t for us.
Chelsea defended resolutely and got a deserved point, but we played our part in making that happen.
My frustration is how predictable we are, build up is too pedestrian, dont do enough to disrupt the opposition shape and that starts in midfield and a lack of urgency and penetration.
Surprised Keita didn’t come on, like Jota he is very direct and think would have created space by pulling players out of position and creating space.
Was glad Kovacic didn’t start that game to be honest, moves the ball quickly and shifts through the gears, that is what we needed today, that urgency.
Think if he came on 11 v 11 he would have caused us all sorts of problems.
Feels like 2 points dropped but its early days so plenty to improve on but we need to really stop these hit and hope crosses and try being more unpredictable.
Sadio Mane a non factor this match. 1 shot on target while losing possession 31 times.
He didn’t have a good game but it doesn’t help any of our attackers with how pedestrian our build up is.
In the who you’d buy thread, I made the point that the midfield doesn’t contribute enough towards winning, and some on here laughed. If we are to depend on an 18-year-old kid to break down resolute defences in this league then we won’t be winning shit this season. This team is short two midfielders. One that is a 10/10 player, ie 10 goals and 10 assists a season and one that has legs and can run all game and is able to stay fit all season as Gini did. Ellitot wasn’t bad in this game but he’s learning his craft on the fly…more power to the kid. Andy and Firmino should not have started this game as neither were match fit. Andy couldn’t play a 10 yard pass, he was that bad and arguably the worst player on the park. That game was 2 points dropped as we lacked the requisite players to break down the Chelsea rear guard and the tempo was way too slow.
We weren’t good enough to break 10 men down is what it comes down to
dont think Klopp is sure…too soon to say…
Jurgen Klopp says Roberto Firmino suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea and will have a scan on Sunday.
Paul Joyce.
